Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Wirkung abnimmt.

Process for cleaning metal objects made of silver and gold, galvanic
Plating and the like

It is known to clean metal objects in such a way that they are brought into contact with an aluminum plate in an alkaline solution. However, potassium hydroxide is not well suited for this purpose, as it impairs the effectiveness of the aluminum. The invention comprises the preparation of a slightly heated solution of a lot of sodium and a little potassium carbonate, in which the objects to be cleaned are immersed and brought into contact with an aluminum plate located in this solution, whereupon the cleaned objects are rinsed and dried in a manner to be described later are.

The use of the soda-potash mixture turned out to be particularly advantageous; because staining is avoided and an extremely high cleaning effect is achieved.

Most conveniently, the new cleaning agent in powder form is made from about 99 parts by weight of anhydrous sodium carbonate and about 1 part by weight of anhydrous potassium carbonate by intimately mixing the two. This mixture is durable and can be stored ready for use at any time.

To clean objects, about a tablespoon full of the powder is dissolved in about 21/2 l of hot water, which is preferably in a glazed vessel. Aluminum, preferably in the form of a plate, is then placed in this hot solution and the objects freed from fat are brought into contact with this by dipping them into the solution and placing them on the aluminum plate. An energetic reaction occurs immediately, which in a few minutes, depending on the condition of the objects to be cleaned, gives them back their original shiny and beautiful appearance in all places.

Then the objects are taken out and rinsed in preferably hot water, after which they are dried with a soft cloth or deerskin.

The aluminum plate used is preferably perforated so that it can more easily sink to the bottom in the liquid and allows dirt and impurities that have been removed from the cleaned objects to sink through the holes to the bottom of the vessel in which the cleaning has taken place. The aluminum can have the purity customary in the trade and can often be used before its
Effect decreases.

   PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Process for cleaning metal objects, in particular made of silver and
Gold, electroplating and the like, whereby the objects to be cleaned are brought into contact with metallic aluminum in an alkaline solution, as a result of the fact that a powdery mixture is used to prepare the solution, which consists of a large excess of soda in addition to very much there is little potash.
