  Schrauben propeller.

  Screw propeller.

The invention relates to a screw propeller made of wood, in particular for aircraft, in which, as is known, several thin boards (lamellas) are arranged one behind the other on the screw axis, then twisted in a helical manner and finally glued together. According to the invention, cuts are now made in the wood leaves themselves, which are parallel to the plane of the leaf and only extend inward so far that the leaves remain undivided at the hub point.

1 of the drawing shows a blade for a screw propeller machined according to the invention. The cuts made through the blade parallel to its plane reach inward so far that a full piece, designated as a hub, remains in the middle. The sheet is then twisted helically after it has been dampened. The propeller is assembled from a corresponding number of boards treated in this way, after which the outer surface is processed. To keep the individual layers securely in their mutual position, they are glued together, possibly connected to one another by pins or the like.

2 shows a cross section through the propeller, from which the angle a can be seen, by which the layers in the plane of this cross section have been rotated with respect to the layers in the end face of the propeller hub 1. 2 denotes the hub bore.
