Kohlenwasserstoffen in möglichst reiner Form über einen entsprechenden Katalysator mit der Massgabe geleitet, dass nicht mehr als 10 Volumen des Kohlenwasserstoffes auf 1 Volumen der Stickstoffverbindung kommen.
Es wurde nun gefunden, dass man an Stelle von Kohlenwasserstoffen auch Kohlenoxyd oder Gemenge von Kohienoxyd mit Kohlenwasserstoffen verwenden kann, wobei man die Gasgemische derartig wählt, dass einerseits nicht mehr als 10 Volumen der obigen kohlenstoffhaltigen Gase auf 1 Volumen der Stickstoffverbindung treffen und andererseits nicht mehr als 1 Volumen der kohlenstoffhältigen Gase auf 6 Volumen der Stickstoffverbindungen kommen oder kurz, dass auf 10 Volumen kohlenstoffhaltiger Gase 1 bis 60VolumenStickstoffverbindungenkommen.

Hydrocarbons in as pure a form as possible passed over an appropriate catalyst with the proviso that no more than 10 volumes of the hydrocarbon come to 1 volume of the nitrogen compound.
It has now been found that, instead of hydrocarbons, it is also possible to use carbon oxides or mixtures of carbon oxides with hydrocarbons, the gas mixtures being chosen so that on the one hand no more than 10 volumes of the above carbon-containing gases meet 1 volume of the nitrogen compound and on the other hand no more than 1 volume of carbon-containing gases come to 6 volumes of nitrogen compounds or, in short, that for every 10 volumes of carbon-containing gases there are 1 to 60 volumes of nitrogen compounds.
