<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The invention relates to a footwell suction device for motor vehicles, a suction opening of a suction fan for suctioning dirt or liquid being provided inside the vehicle.
This invention is a new device in the equipment area for motor vehicles, which has the purpose of avoiding the spread of dust and moisture deposited in the foot area in the interior.
The object of the invention is to detect the known unavoidable entry of dirt, dust, moisture and other substances on the footwell area in a controlled manner at the place of its deposition and by its suction and transport to the outside, its distribution into the vehicle interior, as well as on clothing and to avoid the occupants' respiratory organs
DE 38 33 284 A 1 shows a suction cleaning system, a suction fan being arranged in the trunk, which can suck off dirt or liquids from the vehicle interior via suction hoses and suction openings. GB 2 267 067 A also shows a similar construction in a disadvantageous manner in these known devices, however, the suction is not directly where the dirt is deposited.
Furthermore, the subsequent installation of the device is not possible or only with great effort.
The device according to the invention avoids these disadvantages and is characterized in that the device comprises at least one foot space suction surface which has a flexible surface with a plurality of openings and underlying cavities which are connected to the suction opening of the suction fan via a suction opening and a connecting line.
According to further features of the invention, the suction device is characterized in that the suction fan is arranged in the area below a vehicle seat, and the suction opening is (are) arranged on the sides of the foot space suction surface (s) facing the vehicle seat. The exhaust opening of the suction fan can be through the The floor of the vehicle must be led outside. The blow-out opening can have a switchable blow-off valve, the blow-out valve and the suction fan preferably being fastened to a base plate which is arranged on the vehicle floor.
According to further features, the foot space suction surface is arranged in a trough, possibly connected to the vehicle floor, and the blow-out opening is formed in the area below the vehicle floor to produce a suction effect caused by the driving wind.
The invention is described below, for example, with reference to the drawings. Fig. 1 is a schematic partial section through the vehicle floor and the foot space suction device. 2 and 3 schematically show top views of the device in different versions.
The foot space suction surface 1 consists of a flexible surface similar to standard floor mats and is provided with a large number of max. 10 mm round openings, which open into many lower, including equally flexible, particularly fluidically designed cavities which collectively lead to the suction connection 10. Since this approximately 25 mm high foot space suction surface (1) also serves as a dirt and dust collection device (filter 9), the surface can be easily separated from the lower cavity part in order to be able to clean it of accumulations. The footwell extraction area, which can generally be regarded as a "thick floor mat", is also suitable for being incorporated into the footwell level at the factory.
In the retrofit path, it can be adapted to the respective soil conditions. For vehicles that do not allow an increase in foot space of about 25 mm, a certified welding cup is used to hold the foot space suction on the vehicle floor 6.
The roughly rectangular foot well extraction (viewed in the working position) has a specially shaped suction opening 11 on the side facing the seat, which, like the elastic material of the foot well suction surface, can be loosened by hand from the connection connection to the suction blower 3 or to the connecting line 2 without the aid of any tools or is to be connected in order to facilitate the possible emptying / cleaning of the cavities of the footwell extraction surface of accumulations outside the vehicle, even without dust cleaning.
In order to achieve the greatest possible useful effect, the dimensions of the foot well extraction system are approximately 70 cm long and 45 cm wide, with one depending on the vehicle model
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
customized shape can be made.
The adapted connecting lines 2 consist of the same elastic material as the foot space suction surface, produced with an integrated support insert, so that a cross-sectional change to adjust the position is possible, but a collapse due to the suction vacuum is excluded. Furthermore, the inside of the connecting line is provided with a sound-absorbing coating, for the purpose of suppressing suction noises.
The connecting line, which is manufactured in this way, is easy to connect to the specially shaped connection openings of the foot well extraction or suction blower without any additional aids.
The suction fan 3 consists of an electrically driven high-performance suction fan, which is surrounded on all sides by a correspondingly thick elastic material, for the purpose of noise insulation, shock absorption and vibration damping. The specially shaped suction opening 13 for receiving the connecting line 2 and the blow-out opening 12 are incorporated into this envelope surrounding the suction fan. The entire design is of particularly low design with regard to the accommodation under the vehicle seat
On the one hand, the suction fan is operated automatically with the engine running, in conjunction with the vehicle ventilation, on the other hand, the suction fan can also be switched on and off manually.
If the foot space extraction area is overfilled with deposits and thus increased negative pressure during operation, the suction fan has a sensor with an electrically operated optical / acoustic signal to the operator. In addition, the suction fan can be operated at different speeds / outputs using a control switch
The blow-out valve 4 consists of a base plate, which is designed in such a way that the suction fan 3 is clamped onto the top and the blow-out valve is attached downward for passage through the vehicle floor 6.
According to the invention, the blow-out valve opens by means of an electric drive only when the suction fan is operating properly and is closed airtight at standstill in order to keep unwanted gas flows away. The blow-out valve including the base plate is firmly and tightly connected to the vehicle floor and is made of rustproof material.
Another feature of the blow-out valve 4 is such that the blow-out opening 12 of the blow-out valve, which is located outside the motor vehicle, has a fluidic shape and design which, to a large extent, causes the wind flow to be used to support the air conveyance of the suction fan, which is particularly the case at higher driving speeds Success has been achieved in operating the foot well extraction system without a fan. An automatic control as additional equipment can switch on the suction blower if the suction power of the airstream flow falls below.
