Two embodiments are described for the indirect method:
In the first embodiment, a portion of pigment with a mother-of-pearl effect is added to the mixture, the mixture is stirred, the catalyst is added and the mixture is poured into the mold (as in FIG. 3). The surface of the liquid mixture is exposed to the action of a stream of air which emerges from a number of nozzles --8-- which are arranged and designed in such a way that a predetermined turbulence is generated in the mixture and the pigment is distributed and oriented with the formation of a pattern becomes. The air flow is maintained until the resin viscosity indicates that the gel stage has been reached, the decorative effect being permanently fixed in the resin. This is shown in FIG. 7.

According to a second embodiment, the catalyzed, liquid mixture is poured into the mold (as in FIG. 8), rod-shaped mother-of-pearl material is introduced into the liquid resin and the surface of the liquid mixture is exposed to a stream of air (as in FIG. 9), which is obtained from a Number of upper nozzles-8-is arranged and designed in such a way that a predetermined turbulence is generated in the mixture and the rod material is distributed and oriented while forming a pattern. The air flow is maintained until the resin viscosity shows that the gel stage has been reached, so that the decorative effect is permanently fixed in the resin.

The molded body obtained according to the procedures described has a surface with a deep, three-dimensional decorative effect visible through the plastic and a second or secondary, uniform and flat plastic surface, the flatness of which depends on the viscosity of the resin and the amount of monomer and thinner used.

To achieve a smooth secondary surface, a small amount of molten paraffin can be added to the styrene used in the example. This secondary surface can also be sanded, polished or buffed.

The shaped bodies produced according to the invention can also have several finished surfaces, each of which was produced in the manner described here.

   PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A method for producing a molded body with speckled or marbled pattern effects made of polymerizable plastic by pouring the liquid plastic into an open mold, the bottom of which is the
 EMI2.1
Plastic in the still liquid state, an orientable powdery filler material, such as pigments, metal dust or mother-of-pearl, is added and brought down by distributing it in the liquid with the fingertips, a stick or by a steerable air stream, at least partially from the uppermost liquid layer downwards, creating a spatial decorative effect and the respectively desired pattern is distributed in a mottled or marbled shape until the increase in the viscosity of the liquid plastic indicates the gel level at which the mottled or marbled

Marbling pattern is fixed in the plastic, whereupon the molded body is left in the mold until the plastic hardens.
