   Für praktische Zwecke ist die Zündung der Quecksilberdampflampen durch Kippen wegen ihrer unbedingten Sicherheit sehr geeignet. Man kommt damit auf die ursprünglichste Anordnung, wie sie von Aarons getroffen wurde, wieder zurück. Bei der Herstellung grosser Lampen ergeben sich aber mancherlei Schwierigkeiten. Bei dem hohen Vakuum, das in der Lampe herrschen   muss,   ist die Bewegung des Quecksilbers von einer Elektrode zur anderen mitunter gefährlich, da das Aufschlagen'des Quecksilbers auf die Glaswand leicht zur   Zertrümmerung   derselben führt. Besteht schon für das Zünden diese Gefahr, so steigert sie sich noch bedeutend, wenn es gilt, die Lampe zu transportieren.
