Device for operating metallurgical furnaces, in particular steel works converters, with extraction hoods
The invention relates to a device for operating metallurgical furnaces, in particular steelworks converters, with suction hoods. In such devices it is known per se to connect the furnace to the hood inlet opening by means of a movable connecting piece when blowing. During the break in operation there is then the difficulty of sealing the space inside the extraction hood in the direction of the furnace. On the other hand, however, one knows movable shut-off devices to close off hood inlet openings. These constructions again lack a simple connection option between the furnace and the hood for the blowing period, and for structural reasons the furnace mouth cannot always be connected directly to the hood.
The invention avoids all of the above-mentioned disadvantages in that a connecting piece movable in the flow direction of the exhaust gases is provided for connecting the furnace to the hood inlet opening and a movable, in particular pivotable, shut-off element is provided to close off the hood inlet opening.
The object of the invention is shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, for example, for use in steelworks converters.
Fig. 1 shows the device according to the invention during the converter operation. In Fig. 2 that position of this device is shown, which brings about a closure of the suction hood during the pause of the converter.
The function of the device according to the invention is explained below with reference to the two figures. During the operation of the converter - 9 - the two pivoting end segments --l-- are folded up to the side and through the lowered cuff - 2--, which in this position the mouth of the converter --9-- with the suction hood - -8-- connects, protected from contact with the converter gas (Fig. L). During the pause in blowing, the boiler - 10 - connected to the suction hood - S - is operated with an additional firing system. In this operating state, the cuff - 2 - is raised and the end segments - 1 - are folded down to the side, whereby the suction hood - 8 - is closed (FIG. 2).
The movement of the cuff - 2--

l-inDichtkanten-4 and 5 - has the advantage that they cannot come into contact with the slag-containing flue gas. This avoids contamination of the sealing edges - 4 and 5 - and leakage of the closure. Advantageously, the end segments --1 - are cooled by arranging a heating surface on their outside and the sleeve --2-- by a lining with cooling tubes on their inside.
The arrangement of the heating surfaces on the outside of the end segments - l - has the advantage that the radiant heat from the

the seal only works during the break in operation, i.e. when the suction hood is closed. This has the advantage that during the operating time of the converter -9--, in which the hot exhaust gases are led through the hood --8--, the seals cannot be damaged by blowing through if the pressure fluctuates in the exhaust gas. For this reason, one accepts the slight infiltration of false air through the gaps that are always present during the operating time of the converter --9--.
According to a further feature of the invention, the cuff 2 and the end segments - 1 - are connected to the cooling system of the hood - 8. The cooling surfaces are advantageously connected in such a way that during the operating time of the converter - 9 - the sleeve - and during the break in which the hood is closed by the sleeve - 2 - and the end segments - 1 -, these segments are connected to the cooling circuit of the suction hood -8-. Switching is preferably carried out using a two-way valve.
The invention is not limited to the embodiment shown in the drawings. The hood and thus the cuff can have a different shape than the one shown. Furthermore, the two gripper-like end segments can be arranged asymmetrically to one another.
Finally, a different number of end segments can also be used.
