EMI1.1
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Process for the production of. new bis (chloromethyl) carbamic acid chloride
EMI1.1
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In a particular embodiment of the process according to the invention, hexamethylenetetramine is reacted with phosgene in the presence of a solvent at temperatures between about 20 and 1000.degree. In this preliminary reaction, the bis (chloromethyl) carbamic acid chloride is not yet formed, but a polymeric carbamic acid chloride. The solvent is then evaporated off and the reaction product is reacted with phosgene at the higher temperatures according to the invention. This produces bis (chloromethyl) carbamic acid chloride.
Working up is carried out according to processes known per se. The reaction mixture is preferably subjected to fractional distillation.
Bis- (chloromethyl-carbamic acid chloride, which has not yet been described, is a valuable intermediate product for the production of pesticides, dyes and plastics.
Example 1: 140 parts by weight of hexamethylenetetramine are placed in a cooled autoclave with a volume of 1300 parts by volume, in which there are already 1000 parts by weight of liquefied phosgene. This is followed by heating to 2000 ° C. for 5 hours with thorough stirring, a pressure of 110 atmospheres being established. The excess phosgene is then blown off and the liquid, dark brown reaction product is distilled in vacuo. The bis- (chloromethyl-carbamic acid chloride distilled over bp 95-97 ° C. Yield 246 parts.

The residue consists of 150 parts of a polymeric carbamic acid chloride.
Example 2: 400 parts by weight of hexamethylenetetramine are dissolved in 2000 parts by volume of chloroform. Phosgene is then introduced. A vigorous reaction takes place which brings the chloroform to the boil. at first a white, viscous mass precipitates, which goes back into solution after a while. After passing in phosgene for 6 hours, everything has dissolved without a residue. After this preliminary reaction, the chloroform is distilled off and the viscous reaction product is further phosgenated at 150-160.degree.
After the reaction product has been blown out with nitrogen to remove the excess phosgene, the mixture is distilled in vacuo and the bis (chloromethyl) carbamic acid chloride is obtained in a yield of 410 parts by weight.
