; acid added and heated to boiling for 15 minutes under nitrogen. After cooling to room temperature, water is added, the crude monoacetate which has separated out is filtered off, washed and dried in vacuo over calcium chloride at room temperature. For purification, it is recrystallized repeatedly from methylene chloride / hexane. The pure 17-acetate melts at 161 - 1620C. b) A mixture of 3 g of 17a-ethynyl-19-nor-testosterone, 15 cms pyridine and 10 cd acetic anhydride is heated under nitrogen for 10 hours in an oil bath (bath temperature 150 ° C.).
After cooling to room temperature, the mixture is decomposed with water while stirring and the precipitated crude 3-enol-17 B-diacetate is filtered off after 2-3 hours, washed with water and dried over CaCl2 in vacuo. To saponify the. 3-enol ester group is proceeded as above under 2a). The crude 17-acetate is purified by chromatography and recrystallization or even just by recrystallization and then melts at 161 to 162 C.

Example 3: 17-ethynyl-19-nor-testosterone-n-butyrate. a) A mixture of 3 g of 17-ethynyl-19-nor-testosterone, 15 cms of pyridine and 10 cm3 of butyric anhydride is heated to boiling for 10 hours under nitrogen (bath temperature: 170-1800C). After cooling to room temperature, the reaction mixture is stirred into ice water. After 2-3 hours the precipitated 3-enol-17-dibutyrate is taken up in ether and the ether solution is washed successively with 2N sulfuric acid, 5% sodium bicarbonate solution, n / 10 sodium hydroxide solution and water. The ether solution, dried over sodium sulfate, is evaporated. The residue crystallizes after spraying with methanol.
The crude dibutyrate is treated analogously to the diacetate for saponifying the 3-enol ester group.
The 17-butyrate precipitated with water is taken up in ether, the ether solution is washed and dried. The concentrated ether solution is mixed with hexane and the product which has crystallized out in the cold is purified by recrystallization from ether-containing hexane. The pure monobutyrate melts at 109 to 111 ° C. b) 2.98 g of 17-ethynyl-19-nor-testosterone are reacted with n-butyric anhydride and p-toluenesulphonic acid and worked up under conditions similar to those described in Example 2.
The product obtained after decomposition with pyridine-containing water and etherification is treated as above with methanolic hydrochloric acid and processed further. The 17-butyrate is obtained from the crude product by chromatography and recrystallization.
