Description

Process for the treatment of shaped and hardened friction bodies, such as brake linings and the like. like

When using friction bodies, e.g. B. brake pads, it has been shown that their coefficient of friction is initially quite low and is only improved in the course of use. The purpose of the method according to the application is to eliminate this disadvantage and to produce friction bodies which have their characteristic maximum coefficient of friction from the start. It has now been found that this effect is achieved if the friction bodies formed in the usual way from friction material and synthetic resin binders under pressure and heat are briefly subjected to a thermal treatment, which - from the point of view of the braking effect - results in a coating of the lining surface.

This can be done in such a way that the surface of the friction body is heated to temperatures of more than 3000 C, for example by briefly bringing it into a chamber with a temperature of around 600 to 8000. The synthetic resin charred on its surface.

But you can also use the friction body with a blower flame, for. B. smear briefly with a blowtorch. It is advantageous if, apart from the synthetic resin binder, the friction body does not contain any organic components in order to keep it as free of inflammable substances as possible. A mixture that is particularly suitable for the procedure according to the registration contains, for example:
Detangled, de-felted, carded and loosened, cut (chopped) metal wool, especially steel wool, powdered coke and powdered phenol-formaldehyde synthetic resin in A-state (resol or novolak). The mixture can also contain asbestos, e.g. B.

Contain micro asbestos, as well as any fillers, for example 40-50% steel wool, 20-30% synthetic resin (resol) in powdered or dissolved state, 20-30% coke powder and 0-10% micro asbestos can be processed. Such mixtures are shaped and cured in the usual way under pressure and heat, then subjected to the above-mentioned thermal tempering between 600-800 ° and then cooled.

PATENT CLAIMS: l. Process for the treatment of shaped and hardened friction bodies, such as brake linings and the like. Like., characterized in that the known friction materials such. B. steel wool, coke powder, asbestos and synthetic resin binders, existing in the usual way formed and hardened friction body under pressure and heat are briefly exposed to a thermal aftertreatment.
