Covering agent mainly made of silica sand for case hardening.

The subject of the present invention is a covering means for case hardening, the objects to be only partially hardened, while other parts retain their naturally soft surface.

So far, either clay, clay or asbestos linings have been used for this purpose. The former have the disadvantage that they become cracked and crumbly, the latter the disadvantage that they are extremely expensive and difficult to obtain in times of crisis. Likewise, annealed gravel sand has already been proposed as a covering agent.

But this also has the disadvantage. that the application or the packing crumbles easily even at the elevated temperatures that the case hardening causes,
According to the present invention, a sand mixture has now proven to be particularly advantageous which, in addition to pure silica, contains a relatively low percentage addition of iron oxide. An addition of 15 to 6 "n iron oxide (Pc Og) has the consequence that the sand in the moist state on those places
