  Verfahren zur Vorbereitung von Abfallstoffen beliebiger Holzarten für die Einsatzhärtung von Eisen und Stahl. 



   Zu den bekannten Zementierungsmitteln sind auch Sägespäne oder genügend zer-   ldeinerte     Holzabfälle   zu zählen, die im Gemisch mit anderen, bereits verkohlten Stoffen zum Zwecke der Einsatzhärtung angewendet worden sind. Die kohlende Wirkung dieser Holzabfälle auf Eisen ist naturgemäss lebhafter als diejenige aller vorher verkohlten Zementierungsmittel, die wegen der vorherigen Verluste an Kohlenstoffverbindungen eine weit längere Einsatzdauer erfordern. 



   Dagegen bezweckt das vorliegende Verfahren die schnellere und wirkungsvollere Abgabe von Kohlenstoff an die einzusetzenden Werkstücke mit dem Erfolge, dass die Härteschicht der eingesetzten Werkstücke gegenüber den auf andere Weise zu erzielenden Einsatzhärtungen im gleichen   Zeitraume   nicht nur eine grössere Tiefe, sondern auch ein weit besseres   Gtiteverhältnis   erlangt, weil die ausschliesslich aus Holzabfällen bestehende Einsatzmasse noch keinerlei Verluste an   Kohlenstoffverbindungen   erlitten hat. 



   Dieses Verfahren beruht auf der vorherigen Sättigung von Sägespänen, Sägemehl oder anderen genügend zerfaserten Holzabfällen beliebiger Holzarten mit beliebigen bekannten   Imprägnierungsstoffen.   Es ist belanglos, ob die einer zu schnellen Verkohlung   entgegenwirkende Imprägnierung   der Masse durch Mischungen bekannter Stoffe hergestellt wird. Sie wird am vorteilhaftesten mit solchen Mitteln vorzunehmen sein, die mit ihrer besseren Wirksamkeit die billigeren Anschaffungskosten verbinden.

   The known cementing agents also include sawdust or sufficiently crumbled wood waste, which has been used in a mixture with other, already charred substances for the purpose of case hardening. The carbonizing effect of this wood waste on iron is naturally more vivid than that of all previously carbonized cementing agents, which, due to the previous loss of carbon compounds, require a much longer service life.



   On the other hand, the present method aims at the faster and more effective release of carbon to the workpieces to be used, with the result that the hardness layer of the workpieces used, compared to the case hardening that can be achieved in other ways, not only attains a greater depth, but also a far better quality ratio in the same period of time because the feed mass, which consists exclusively of wood waste, has not yet suffered any loss of carbon compounds.



   This process is based on the prior saturation of sawdust, sawdust or other sufficiently frayed wood waste of any type of wood with any known impregnation substances. It is irrelevant whether the impregnation of the mass, which counteracts too rapid charring, is produced by mixtures of known substances. It will be most advantageous to carry out such means which combine the cheaper acquisition costs with their better effectiveness.
