Process for improving the anesthetic effect of cocaine or its
Salts.
For local anesthesia, cocaine has so far been used in a fairly highly concentrated solution.
However, this fact makes its use in cases where it can somehow enter the metabolic cycle, quite dangerous. Therefore, more or less severe symptoms of intoxication cannot be avoided when using cocaine as a local anesthetic.
It has now been shown, surprisingly, that when cocaine or its salts are mixed very intimately with adonidine, products are formed which in their anesthetic effect far exceed cocaine.
EMI1.1
Use centering to achieve the same or even greater effect.
In practice, one works in such a way that one treats the cocaine or its salts with amounts of adonidine which do not exceed 100% calculated on cocaine.
Exemplary embodiment: 50 parts of cocaine are dissolved in about 700 parts of alcohol, stirred with a solution of 5 parts of adonidine in about 300 parts of alcohol and the whole thing is brought to dryness in vacuo, whereupon the residue is powdered.
If you work in the manner indicated, you do not need to go beyond 5% with cocaine in order to achieve the effect of ordinary cocaine solutions of the highest concentration. The adonidine is used in amounts of about 0.5-2%. The particular technical advantage of the process is that, in addition to saving cocaine, the poisonous effect of both components is considerably weakened.
Another advantage is that the new process considerably reduces the dangers of the improper use of cocaine, as is known today on a large scale, because the poisonous effect of cocaine is very much reduced.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A method for improving the anesthetic effect of cocaine or its salts, characterized in that cocaine or its salts are mixed very intimately with adonidine.
