Die Erfindung besteht darin, daß als Elektrolyt ausschließlich oder zum Teil eine Kaliendlauge benutzt wird. Diese Kaliendlauge stellt bekanntlich die restliche Mutterlauge dar, die bei Herstellung höherprozentiger Kalisalze in der Kaliindustrie nach Lösung der Rohsalze in einer Magnesiumchloridlauge, Abkühlenlassen der letzteren und nochmaligern Eindampfen erhalten wird. Lagerbeständige galvanische Elemente, die insbesondere Braunstein in irgendeiner Form als Depolarisator enthalten, wurden bisher mit besonders zu diesem Zweck dargestellten Chlorsalzen hergestellt. Durch Verwendung der Kaliendlatige, die Chlorsalze als wesentliche Bestandteile enthält, kann man nunmehr von der besonderen Darstellung von Chlorsalzen zur Verwendung als Elektrolyt a ' bsehen und durch die als Abfallprodukt selbstverständlich erheblich billigere Kaliendlauge ersetzen, ohne die Leistungsfähigkeit des Elements herabzusetzen; Versuche haben vielmehr ergeben, daß Kaliendlauge auf diesem neuen Verwendungsgebiet dem bisher verwendeten, Chlorsalze enthaltenden Elektrolyten mindestens gleichwertig, wenn nicht überlegen ist. Die Kaliendlauge kann allein für sich als Elektrolyt verwendet oder diesem zugesetzt werden; es können aber auch andere Zusätze, beispielsweise Quecksilbersalze, in an sich bekannter Weise zur Erhöhung der Lagerbeständigkeit benutzt werden.By means of the invention, this potassium hydroxide solution, which was previously regarded as unusable and even harmful, is supplied to a completely new application purpose which is foreign to its area of production, in which it is used technically in a profitable manner.
