Valve cone for internal combustion engines.
If tetraethyl lead is added to the fuels used for highly stressed internal combustion engines to achieve certain properties (e.g. to prevent knocking), the engine valve cones that come into contact with the combustion gases are severely attacked and quickly become unusable due to corrosion. The aim of the invention is to create valve cones for highly stressed internal combustion engines which are also resistant to the combustion gases of fuels mixed with tetraethyl lead.
This purpose is achieved according to the invention in that the valve cones are made of a steel alloy known per se, which contains up to 2% carbon, more than 18 and up to 40%, preferably more than 20% chromium,
10 to 15% nickel or cobalt, individually or mixed,
0-5 to 10% tungsten, molybdenum, tantalum, individually or mixed and
Contains 0 to 3% titanium or zirconium, individually or mixed.
In this steel alloy, the nickel or. Cobalt content can be wholly or partially replaced by manganese. In the complete absence of nickel, the manganese content can be up to 20%.
In addition, the steel alloy used according to the invention can contain up to 5% silicon or aluminum or both. It is appropriate to use the silicon or. Aluminum content should be measured at 1% or more, especially if the chromium content is relatively low, e.g. B. 25% or less.
As an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention, a valve cone is specified from a
EMI1.1
contains. This alloy was exposed to the combustion gases of petrol mixed with tetraethyl lead at 950 ° for 95 hours. The weight loss was 0'80 gjh. m2.
Under the same conditions, a steel alloy with about 0-47% C, 1-6% Si, 0-9% Mn, 15% Cr, 14% Ni and 2-2% weeping suffered a weight loss of 28-9 glh. m2. In addition to the good corrosion resistance discussed, the valve cones according to the invention also have high heat resistance at the operating temperatures. They therefore have a long service life and operational reliability.
