Process for the production of enamels rubbed white with zirconium oxide or the like, in particular powder enamels.
The invention relates to a method for the production of enamels clouded white with zirconium oxide, substances containing zirconium oxide, zirconium or the like, in particular powder enamels. The invention is based on the finding that, in particular for powder enamel, the opacity with zirconium oxide or zirconium oxide-containing substances in the presence of magnesium oxide and calcium oxide can be greatly enhanced. This effect is apparently due to the fact that these substances make decomposition of the zirconium oxide difficult and even prevent it. However, this effect is linked to the simultaneous presence of these two substances.
The invention is based on the finding that dolomite offers a means of introducing these two substances, namely magnesium oxide and calcium oxide, into the enamel at the same time in a favorable ratio, with dolomite having the advantage that it is a natural product that is found in nature Already occurs in a low-iron form and can therefore be used directly as a raw material for enamelling, especially for powder enamelling. In nature, dolomite occurs in a purity that is otherwise only available in chemically pure preparations, so that iron-free or low-iron dolomite is an extremely cheap substitute for magnesium oxide and calcium oxide in chemically pure form.
According to the invention, low-iron dolomite has proven to be particularly suitable. Compared to other raw materials or industrial products containing magnesium, this material has the great advantage that it presents the magnesium oxide in a particularly cheap and particularly low-iron compound and at the same time is present as a double compound with the calcium oxide.
The use of dolomite thus enables the production of enamels containing magnesium and opacified with zirconium oxide at significantly cheaper prices than is possible with other materials containing niagnesium oxide and low in iron, and in particular allows the production of high-gloss, pure white enamels, with the simultaneous introduction of calium oxide as a double compound of magnesium oxide
EMI1.1
Enamels made using low-iron dolomite have the advantage over the known powder enamels clouded with zirconium oxide or zirconium oxide-containing substances that they are more clouded. Dolomite thus also offers a means to remove substances such as B.
Zirconium silicates to be used as opacifiers, which have a lower opacity than zirconium oxide, with the use of dolomite also having the advantage that the zirconium enamels produced in this way have a better gloss than the usual zirconium enamels.
Examples:
1. 20% dolomite and 12% zirconium silicate are introduced into a common powder enamel.
2. 20% dolomite, 8% zirconium silicate and 4% zirconium oxide are introduced.
