Zahnstocher.

Toothpick.
The present invention relates to toothpicks which are impregnated or coated with aromatic and disinfecting substances as well as with substances described below.
Impregnation of toothpicks with aromatic and disinfecting substances is known. In the case of known toothpicks, however, it turned out that they lost their aroma after a short time, obviously for the reason that the toothpicks were wrapped in a powder of a gum resin, such as myrrh, or in gelatin powder, to create an airtight seal for the aromatic and, for the most part, likewise volatile disinfecting substances are not sufficient, so that they are not protected from volatilization.
Through experiments it has now been found that a perfect fixation of the aromatic and disinfecting substances is possible if, according to the present invention
EMI1.1
mashing and disinfecting substances in a colloidal solution of one or more colloids that swell in water, such as gum arabic, egg white or the like. Since the volatile substances distributed in such an emulsion are insoluble in the colloids surrounding them, they cannot diffuse through the latter, so that they are protected from volatilization. As can be seen, a further technical advance consists in the fact that the toothpicks are now impregnated with aromatic substances etc. and these substances are protected from volatilization in a single operation.
In addition to the impregnation or coating mass, the following substances that have not been used for this purpose and that increase the utility value of the toothpicks can be added: Above all, the carbonates of the alkaline earth metals, especially calcium and magnesium, which neutralize the harmful acids that form in the tooth joints are suitable. They are also effective as mechanical cleaning agents for teeth. It should be noted that barium carbonate cannot be used due to its poisonous effect.
In addition, substances can be added to the emulsion which, in the presence of water, form peroxides with atmospheric oxygen. Chamomile flower extracts and chamomile oil in particular come into consideration as such, as well as ferments that absorb free oxygen with peroxide formation. the oxygenases.
Finally, astringent substances, e.g. B. tannin, ratanhia extract or the like. Are added. Such substances are known to have a beneficial effect on the gums. by strengthening and fixing it.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Toothpick, characterized in that it is coated in its entire length or in part with an emulsion of aromatic and disinfecting substances in a colloidal solution of one or more water-swellable colloids, e.g. B. with an emulsion of peppermint oil in water
