Paddle wheel propellers with swinging blades.
The invention relates to a paddle wheel propeller with oscillating blades and aims, in particular for propellers with mechanical drive of the blades, to be of a particularly compact and simple design.
The paddle wheel propellers with vibrating blades that have become known up to now have only been designed with material central shafts, so that the mechanism causing the blades to vibrate had to be arranged either in the annular space between the blade journal and the axis of rotation or their bearing or at the upper end of the axis of rotation.
In contrast, the propeller according to the invention is designed in such a way that the circumferential part carrying the blades is designed as a hollow body with internal bearings, which results in significant improvements, which are specified in more detail below.
In the drawing, an embodiment of the invention is shown, u. Between. Fig. 1 shows an axial section and Fig. 2 shows a section perpendicular to the axis of such a propeller.
The propeller consists essentially of a revolving wheel body Al with an inner cavity a2 and blades Bl arranged on its outer circumference. It is driven by the pair of bevel gears a3, a4 and runs on a stationary support body Cl arranged in its interior, which is a part of the also stationary Housing c2 forms. In the support body Cl the circumferential part is guided in a neck bearing c3 and a double-sided thrust bearing of larger diameter c4.
The drive of the blades B1 is brought about by crank loops D1, which are attached to the wheel body with pivot d2 and rotate with the wheel around a non-rotatable, but adjustable in its horizontal position control pin EI with sliding blocks e2. Depending on the position of the control pin, the crank loops D 'swing and transmit their movement to the blades B1 by means of push rods d3 and lever b2.
The push rods d3 can be provided with means, not shown in the drawing, for adjusting their length and for achieving flexibility in the longitudinal direction.
The lever or stick E3 is used to adjust the control pin EI and thus the control center of the blade oscillation, which is mounted so that it can move in all directions by means of a ball joint e4 and can be adjusted in any direction at its free end eo by hand or by mechanical aids.
The interior a2 of the rotating wheel body J- is sealed by a seal c '* of a known type against the space between itself and the housing c2.
Because the bearing body Cl, which is fixed inside the rotating wheel body Al, is designed as a hollow body, the shape of which adapts to that of the wheel body Al, it is possible to have the rotating part in only one neck bearing c3 and one thrust bearing c4 with a larger diameter than the neck bearing to keep more stable than in any shaft bearing with external bearings and at the same time to make the central cavity a2 in the middle of the wheel body available for accommodating a blade drive device.
In this central space a2, a drive device known per se, for example one with one crank loop D1 per propeller blade B1, can be arranged in the most compact form, the drive crank handle D1 being connected to the propeller blades by push rods 113.

Slider crank drives for paddle wheel propellers with mechanically moved blades are known per se, but only in the form that the blade sits on the extended pivot of the crank mechanism. They have the disadvantage that when excessive torques occur as a result of the non-compliant drive, a drive element must break or at least be damaged.
In contrast, in the case of a central drive with push rods d3, the latter can be designed to be flexible in their longitudinal direction, so that in the event of excessive torques on a blade, the latter can temporarily or permanently reduce or stop its movement without damaging the drive parts and without damaging the other blades be disturbed in their movement.
The arrangement of push rods d3 and levers b2 between the crank loops D 'and the blades also makes it possible to adjust the blades B by turning in the levers b2 or by changing the length of the rods d3 with respect to the crank loops Du wu.
Since the cavity a2 is not taken up by a shaft as in the previous versions, it is possible to design the device required for controlling the blades for adjusting the control center as a simple lever or stick E3 with all-round mobility, this lever being approximately or precisely is placed in the axis of rotation, where otherwise the shaft usually goes through. It is thus possible in the simplest manner by means of a single part E3, which is also extremely simple in itself, to adjust the control center in all directions.
In the previously known paddle propellers, a separate oil container is required for the oil required to lubricate the moving parts and for the actuation of any auxiliary devices for adjusting the control center, which must be connected to the propeller itself by pipelines. According to the invention, the interior a2 of the hollow body formed as a circumferential part Al itself is used as an oil container, whereby the entire system as well as the implementation of the lubrication of the moving parts is made much easier and more reliable because most of the moving parts in this cavity a2 and are thus arranged in the oil chamber itself.
It is very important to protect the oil itself from water ingress. According to the invention, effective protection is provided in that the circumferential body A1 is sealed on the neck-shaped part at c * in a manner known per se, so that even with little water penetration, the leakage water is drained outside the neck and not into the interior a2 existing oil can penetrate.
