Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

  Process for de-leaching liquids, especially water, using hydrogen peroxide or

   Peroxides in excess.
 EMI1.1
 This means not only requires the exact dosage, but also a continuous control with regard to the fluctuating chlorine absorption capacity of the water, so one has also used coal in place of these means, over which the chlorine-containing water is passed. In this case, disturbances occur, caused by the reactivity of the coal, which decreases over time, and its contamination by insoluble compounds which form on the surface of the coal. The coal becomes ineffective and allows chlorine to pass through.

   Other known processes for removing chlorine and other oxidizing substances, which are added to the water in excess for sterilization, include processes that use insoluble metal oxides, such as nickel oxide, cobalt oxide, iron oxide, copper oxide, which are catalytically non-chemically reactive or mixtures of these with manganese oxide, conduct a process which removes the chlorine by means of hydrogen peroxide or peroxides or per compounds similar to it. However, these processes have the disadvantage that a noticeable residual chlorine remains in the water. They have therefore not been used in practical operation.

   The invention creates a method which enables the chlorine added to the water for the purpose of disinfection or cleaning to be removed practically completely without precise metering. The idea on which the invention is based is that the chlorine-containing water, in addition to hydrogen peroxide or

  Peroxides in excess of catalysts which promote the decomposition of the hydrogen peroxide or the peroxides are added. As catalysts come z. B. alkaline reagents, manganese peroxide, metals, carbon, etc., in question. These catalysts accelerate the decomposition of the hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and water, so that on the one hand the dechlorinating effect is required and on the other hand the removal of the excess hydrogen peroxide or peroxide is accelerated by decomposition from the water.
