Shielded spark plug.
The invention relates to shielded spark plugs in which the connection-side end of the center electrode is sunk into a bore in the insulating body that is enlarged for the connection of the ignition cable and the insulator head protruding from the plug body is surrounded by a metal shell which is connected at one end to the plug body and at the other end of which there is a sleeve that surrounds and holds the ignition cable. In known embodiments, the metal shell consists of a relatively strong tube which is screwed to the plug body or which consists of one piece with the nut for fastening the insulating body.
To a cheap shielded
To obtain spark plug, according to the invention, the metal shell consists of a sheet metal jacket that is attached to a
The end is attached to the parts of the candle that are used to hold the candle stone and the other
End is connected to a nipple on which the holding and watertight closure of the
Cable serving parts can be attached. Spark plugs are known in which the metal jacket shielding the insulating body is made of sheet metal. However, these are not as useful in every respect as the present spark plug.
In the drawing, two exemplary embodiments of the subject matter of the invention are shown in section. a is the insulating body, b is the plug body in which the insulating body is located, and c is the center electrode of a spark plug. The insulating body has a longitudinal bore d in which the center electrode is inserted.
The electrode extends from the ignition point only approximately to the middle of the insulating body. The remaining part of the bore not filled by the electrode is widened in order to be able to insert an ignition cable e.
The part of the insulating body protruding from the candle body is surrounded by a lead jacket /. At one end of the jacket its edge is widened and lies under the nut g, with which the insulating body is clamped in the plug body. The other edge of the jacket is attached to a threaded nipple h, which sits on the end of the insulating body, by being rolled into a groove i of the nipple.
A union nut k is screwed onto the nipple, by which a rubber sealing ring n, which lies in the nipple, and two metal sleeves o, between which the metal covering p of the ignition cable lies, are tightened.
In the second embodiment, FIG. 2, there is an air gap q between the metal jacket t and the insulating body, and the hole in the insulating body for inserting the ignition cable is so wide that there is also an air gap r between the cable and the insulating body. An insulating tube made of quartz, glass or a similar material is pushed onto the end of the ignition cable. The air gaps keep the heat, which mainly rises in the metal jacket, away from the ignition cable, which is sensitive to strong heating, with due regard to its rubber insulation.
