Verfahren zur Herstellung von nicht entflammbaren Filmen für photographische Zwecke.
Im Hauptpatent Nr. 133101 ist ein nicht entflammbarer Film für photographische Zwecke beschrieben, der aus einer Gelatinekernsehicht besteht, die durch Formaldehyd oder ein anderes ähnlich wirkendes Mittel unlöslich gemacht worden ist und die auf jeder Seite bedeckt ist mit einer dünnen Lage oder Schicht von Gummi und mit einer äusseren Lage oder Schicht von Zelluloid, Kollodium oder einem andern Stoff, der die lichtempfindliche Emulsion aufnimmt.
Formaldehyd oder ein anderes Mittel zur Unlöslichmaehung der Gelatine macht sie nicht vollkommen unangreifbar gegenüber Feuchtigkeit und der Zusatz von Glycerin zur Gelatine zwecks Erhaltung der Biegsamkeit macht sie noch weniger unangreifbar.
Es wurde gefunden : dass die Schichten von Gummi und Zelluloid oder anderem Stoff auf beiden Seiten der Kernschicht eine geringe Absorption von Feuchtigkeit durch die Gelatinekernschicht nicht verhindern.
Um diesen Ubelstand aus der Welt zu schaffen, wird der Gelatinelösung, die Formaldehyd oder ein anderes Mittel zur Unlösliehmaehung der Gelatine enthält, eine kleine Menge von Kaliumbichromat. z. B. ungefähr 2% einer gesättigten Lösung, zugesetzt und nach dem Trocknen wird die Kernschicht dem Licht ausgesetzt, so dass das Bichromat zersetzt wird und die Gelatine gegen Feuchtigkeit unangreifbar

Nach Bildung der Kernschicht wird sie mit einer Gummischicht bedeckt, getroeknet und vorzugweise mit einem Vulkanisierungsmittel, z. B. gasförmiges Brom, behandelt, um gemäss Patent NI'. 1387tj ; j eine leichte Vulkanisation der Gummioberflärhe herbeizuführen, die mit Zelluloid oder einem andern Stoff bedeckt werden soll, wie dies in dem Patent Nr. 133.101 beschrieben ist.
PATENT-ANSPRÜCHE :

In parent patent no. 133101 a non-flammable film for photographic use is described which consists of a gelatin core layer which has been insolubilized by formaldehyde or other similar agent and which is covered on each side with a thin layer of rubber and with an outer layer or layer of celluloid, collodion, or some other material that absorbs the light-sensitive emulsion.
Formaldehyde or some other means of making the gelatin insoluble does not make it completely invulnerable to moisture, and the addition of glycerin to the gelatin to maintain flexibility makes it even less invulnerable.
It has been found: that the layers of rubber and celluloid or other fabric on either side of the core layer do not prevent poor absorption of moisture by the gelatin core layer.
In order to remedy this problem, a small amount of potassium dichromate is added to the gelatin solution, which contains formaldehyde or some other agent to make the gelatin insoluble. z. B. about 2% of a saturated solution, and after drying, the core layer is exposed to light, so that the bichromate is decomposed and the gelatin is impervious to moisture
