Process for the production of gravure mounting forms.
Processes for the production of intaglio mounting forms, which allow a simultaneous transfer and etching of image and writing, are known, but have not been able to become naturalized in practice.
Process Patent No. 318686 e.g. B. has therefore not led to practical success, because its inconvenience - edges of the slides with varnish, coloring the layer or applying a new layer, removing the varnish and drying - destroys the time gained by simultaneous transfer and etching.
In addition, precise image delimitation must be taken into account when producing the negatives, which causes difficulties and loss of time, especially with complicated overlapping images, and makes it impossible to insert images at the last minute, as is required by modern magazine operations. Ultimately, a certain success with the process cannot be expected because, on the one hand, a completely uniform coloring of the image layer or even a poured layer is not always possible and, on the other hand, the photographic production of the writing together with the slides leads to uneven results.
The method described below for the production of rotogravure mounting forms which allow the simultaneous transfer of image and writing attempts to remedy these deficiencies. The procedure is carried out as follows:
Photographic films dyed with an inactinic dye from the outset are used. The layer itself or the celluloid or a special z. B. be applied to the back of the film layer. Sufficient coloring can often be achieved, for example, by using a particularly yellow celluloid to produce the films or by providing the films with a sufficiently opaque retouching mat layer on the back.
On these films, the slides are produced individually or in groups together in approximately the final image size and, after drying, trimmed to the exact size and shape. They are then attached to their place on the mounting disc at the edges with a very small amount of completely translucent glue. The text is printed in a known manner on transparent material such as cellophane and is indented between the images.
The result is a montage in which everything except text and image is completely evenly translucent and in which images and text can be indented even at the last moment.
The covering on the copper cylinder is therefore limited to a mere covering of the bare copper, and joint transfer and etching is possible without the preparatory work of photography taking up more than the usual time.
