Description

Process for the production of stiff inserts for clothing styles.
It is known that in the manufacture of garments, stiff fabrics made of horsehair alone or with cotton as warp or weft are inserted at certain points to maintain their shape. Such fabrics have already been rubberized so that the threads do not shift. Horsehair fabrics are expensive. A mat is also already known which is made from several layers by felting hair or fibers with the addition of a binder in the heat under pressure. However, this fabric is too thick and too dense as a garment insert and consequently not elastic enough.
The insert produced according to the invention, on the other hand, is very thin and has large pores and is extremely elastic, since the tangled hair or fibers are pulled apart to form a very thin pile and sprayed with elastic binders containing rubber, e.g. B. latex, individually wrapped in a kinking of the hair or fibers preventing, elastic tube and only connected to each other at the points of contact. The pile so impregnated is pressed, preferably rolled out. The finished product is extremely cheap, despite its low thickness, against tensile stress in any direction, and at the same time highly air-permeable and insensitive to moisture.
If such a material is brought out of its plane by bending or curving, it tends, by virtue of its elastic coating, to return to its original plane position immediately after the effect has ceased.
The hair or the like, which is preferably pulled apart by machine to form a pile, is sprinkled with a rubber-containing elastic binding agent, sprinkled with it or, after a preliminary binding and pressing, dipped into the binding agent, to which a hardening or vulcanizing agent, possibly also dye, can be added. In rollers or the like, the pile prepared in this way is shaped cold or hot into a flat web of very thin material.
