Eine gewisse Dehnbarkeit ist bei elektrischen Leitern und Kabeln sowohl für die Verlegung wie auch für den Betrieb von einiger Bedeutung, weswegen auch der Vorschlag, die Leitungsdrähte um einen elastischen Kern anzuordnen, gemacht worden ist. Eine über wenige Prozent hinausgehende Dehnbarkeit hat man aber bisher für schädlich angesehen.
