Wire rope with a device for measuring elongation.
In the case of suspension ropes, especially bridge ropes for suspension bridges, it is desirable to be able to determine the extension that occurs when the ropes are loaded. The determinations by subsequent measurement of the rope length under load and comparison of this rope length with the one before the load is cumbersome and especially very imprecise with long rope lengths.
The invention relates to a wire rope which is provided with a device which makes it possible to determine the extension of the wire rope occurring under the action of the load directly on the loaded rope itself without special measuring devices. For this purpose is inside the
Seiles a measuring wire made of a material with very low thermal expansion. z. B. made of steel on the type of piano wire or from Invar so frictionless and independent of the outer rope wires provided that it does not take part in the absorption of the load when the rope is loaded. Since this
If the wire retains its original length even when the rope is loaded, the difference in length between the measuring wire inside the rope and the actual rope results in the extension that occurs under the action of a load.
In order to create the necessary space for the measuring wire, the rope is hollow inside. This can be done, for example, either by using ring-shaped wires that support each other in the manner of an arch, or by
Formation of the wire core from round wires that leave a gusset-shaped space between them.
When attaching a cable according to the invention, in order to facilitate the measurement, the measuring wire located inside can also be attached to one end of the cable, while the measuring wire, which naturally has to be longer than the cable to be measured, is free at the other end of the cable is carried out through the fastening point, which is also designed to be hollow inside for this purpose.
The part of the measuring wire protruding from the rope can be provided with a length division so that when the rope is loaded on the measuring wire, the rope extension can be read directly.
In the event that the measuring wire provided inside the rope should be inserted later, it is advisable to let it rotate with a high number of turns during this process to make it easier to insert.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Wire rope, characterized in that to determine the elongation, the rope is hollow and a measuring wire is housed in its interior so as to be easily displaceable.
