Korrosions- und seewasserbeständige Aluminiumlegierung.
Schon seit langem geht das Bestreben der aluminiumherstellenden Industrie dahin, eine Aluminiumlegierung zu schaffen, die korrosionsbeständig ist, den Einwirkungen des Seewassers insbesondere widersteht, mechanisch gute Eigenschaften besitzt und ohne Herabminderung ihrer Korrosionsbeständigkeit mechanischen bzw. thermischen Vergütungsverfahren unterworfen werden kann. Reinaluminium, welches an sich korrosionsbeständig ist, kommt für die vorliegenden Zwecke, da es keine genügende mechanische Festigkeit besitzt, nicht in Frage. Auch die sonstigen für diesen Zweck bekanntgewordenen Legierungen haben nicht die gewünschten Eigenschaften, die für den vorliegenden Zweck unbedingt erforderlich sind.
Einige davon sind ausgesprochen Guss-, andere wieder ausgesprochen Walzlegierungen, während di vorliegende Legierung sowohl als Guss-als auch als Walzlegierung benutzbar ist.
Es ist gefunden worden, dass eine Aluminiumlegierung mit einem Gehalt von 1-6% Magnesium und 0'05-1 % Titan diese Eigenschaften besitzt. Ausgedehnte, im Nordseewasser vorgenommene Untersuchungen haben die Korrosionsbeständigkeit der Legierung erwiesen.

For a long time, the aluminum manufacturing industry has endeavored to create an aluminum alloy that is corrosion-resistant, particularly resists the effects of seawater, has good mechanical properties and can be subjected to mechanical or thermal tempering processes without reducing its corrosion resistance. Pure aluminum, which is inherently corrosion-resistant, is out of the question for the present purposes since it does not have sufficient mechanical strength. The other alloys that have become known for this purpose also do not have the desired properties which are absolutely necessary for the present purpose.
Some of them are definitely cast alloys, others are again definitely rolled alloys, while the present alloy can be used both as a cast and as a rolled alloy.
It has been found that an aluminum alloy with a content of 1-6% magnesium and 0.5-1% titanium has these properties. Extensive investigations carried out in the North Sea water have proven the corrosion resistance of the alloy.
