Der Gehalt an Silizium soll vorteilhafter weise niedrig sein. Bei einer Gusslegierung wird also beispielsweise 2,5 % Silizium zweck- mässig sein;

Corrosion-resistant, thin-precipitation hardening, heat treatable aluminum alloy. The high tensile strength aluminum alloys of the Al-Cu-Mg type, which are tempered by precipitation hardening and come on the market under different names, such as duralumin and avional, are known to not have the high corrosion resistance of pure aluminum. Alloys have therefore been developed that can also be hardened and tempered by precipitation hardening,
but have a better corrosion resistance than the above-mentioned alloys of the type Al-Cu-Mg. The better corrosion resistance was achieved at the expense of somewhat lower tensile strength and hardness. This is how the copper-free aluminum alloys of the Al-Mg-Si type were created, which have tensile strengths of around 32-36 kg / mm 'in the quenched and tempered state without subsequent cold stretching and are just as corrosion-resistant as 99.3% pure aluminum.
These practically copper-free aluminum alloys of the Al-Mg-Si type, which can be tempered by precipitation hardening, are widely used under various names, such as Anticorodal and Aldrey, and valued for their good corrosion resistance and good mechanical strength.
The composition of these alloys usually fluctuates within the following limits (DIN standard sheet 1713) 0.3-2% Mg 0.3-1.5 / o si 0-1.5% Mn, the remainder Al. The above compositions are those of wrought alloys. The silicon content of the corresponding cast alloys (type GAl-Mg-Si) is 2-5%.
In the case of the manganese-free alloys of the Al-Mg-Si type, the tensile strength is somewhat lower than that of the manganese-containing alloys with the same corrosion resistance. Therefore, mostly manganese-containing alloys of this type are used. The manganese-free alloys include the overhead line alloy known under the name "Aldrey", which has been worked out with a view to good electrical conductivity with adequate tensile strength and corrosion resistance.
Over the years, the requirements for alloys of the types Al-Mg-Si and GAI-31g-Si in terms of corrosion resistance have increased more and more. But it was not possible to achieve better corrosion resistance than that of the usual pure aluminum. The effect achieved by reducing the level of impurities did not lead to the expectation of any substantial and sudden improvement in the corrosion resistance.
. It has now been found that it is possible to produce heat treatable aluminum alloys by precipitation hardening, the corrosion resistance of which can be described as extraordinarily high compared to that of the conventional pure aluminum and that comes very close to that of the pure aluminum (purity 99.990 / 0 and above).
The subject matter of the present invention is namely a corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy with 0.3-2% Mg and 0.3-5% Si, which can be tempered by precipitation hardening, with the copper content present as an impurity below 0.02%, preferably below 0.01%,
and the iron content is kept below 0.05%, preferably below 0.02%, but most preferably below 0.01 0%.
The silicon content should advantageously be low. In the case of a cast alloy, for example, 2.5% silicon will be expedient;
with wrought alloys (silicon 0.3-1.5%) it is best not to go above 1.1% silicon.
The alloys can contain up to 1.5% manganese and up to 0.2% titanium; Manganese and titanium can be present individually or together. As for the manganese content, it is beneficial to stay below 1%; a manganese content of approximately 0.5 / o is particularly recommended.
Even if there are isolated reports in the literature about the influence of impurities on pure aluminum, it was not foreseeable that it would be possible to produce heat treatable aluminum alloys by precipitation hardening that would have the high strengths of the alloys of the Al-Mg type -Si and have practically the same corrosion resistance as pure aluminum.
Numerous series of tests have shown that the compound 3Ig2Si, which is primarily responsible for hardening during tempering, has only an extremely small influence on corrosion resistance (for example, an alloy consisting of pure aluminum and 1.5% MgzSi is even significantly more corrosion-resistant than pure aluminum). This behavior also applies to manganese.
Even the addition of titanium in the amounts that contribute to the creation of a finer grain does not have any significant influence on the corrosion resistance. In some cases it is advisable to e.g. B. to lower the solubility in dilute nitric acid, the above-mentioned alloys to add some zinc, for example up to 1%.
The high corrosion resistance of the stressed aluminum alloys that can be hardened and tempered by precipitation hardening can be seen, for example, from the following data:

The figures in Tables I and II represent only a small fraction of the values determined in the tests for the preparation of the new alloys. The influence of both the individual additives and the reciprocal additives was tested, also in other cores clearing media than those listed above. However, all tests have confirmed that the claimed alloys are on a par with the Reirrstalrmirrm in terms of corrosion resistance.
The mechanical properties correspond to those of the normal alloys of the type Al-Dlg-Si respectively. GAI-Mg-Si.
It goes without saying that extreme care must be taken in the manufacture of the alloys. For example, iron must not come into contact with the molten alloy.
Particular attention must also be paid to the purity of the components to be melted together. Above all, pure aluminum is used, preferably that which is obtained using the newer three-layer process and has a purity of 99.99% and above.
The possible uses for the alloys being claimed are of course even more numerous than those of the usual alloys of the Al-Mg-Si genus. GAl-Mg-Si. A promising area of application is, among other things, the plating of less corrosion-resistant aluminum alloys.
It goes without saying that one does not get out of the scope of the invention if further elements are added to the alloys according to the invention which do not cause any appreciable deterioration in the corrosion resistance, for example cadmium.
