Die Gitter bestehen aus einem Metall, das mit Quecksilber kein Amalgam bildet, z. B. wie Eisen.
Da aber Eisen bei grossen Stromdichten schmilzt bzw. zerstäubt, wird zweckmässig ein schwer schmelzbares Metall, z. B. Wolfram, zur Herstellung des Gitters verwendet. Gitter nach der Erfindung sind in ihrer Anwendbarkeit nicht auf Gleichrichter mit Metallgehäuse beschränkt, sondern sind ohne weiteres anwendbar auf Glasgleichrichter. Der Querschnitt der Hülsen für das Gitter kann anstatt wie dargestellt kreisförmig auch andere beliebige Form erhalten ; ferner können die Hülsen auf ihrem Umfang gerippt oder geriffelt bzw. wellenförmig gestaltet sein.
PATENT-ANSPRÜCHE :
1. Quecksilberdampf-Gleichrichter mit im Lichtbogenweg zu den Anoden innerhalb der Anodenhülse angeordneten Gittern, deren Eintrittsöffnungen für den an der Anode ausgehenden Lichtbogen unterhalb der Anodenfläche liegen, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Gitter (i) aus konzentrisch ineinander geschobenen Hülsen oder Rohren aus Metall bestehen.
