    Österreichische PATENTSCHRIFT ? 1 0652.
 EMI1.1

    Austrian PATENT LETTERING? 1 0652.
 EMI1.1

The subject of the invention is a mass for hardening steel, which consists of 700 rosin, 100 g copper vitriol, 300 g blood liquor salt and 100 9 linseed oil and which is obtained as a solid mass by mixing these!

The use of colophony, blood liquor salt and linseed oil for hardening purposes is known, but it has been found that by adding vitriol to the above agents, precisely in the specified weight ratios, a hardening compound is obtained that gives every steel a special toughness and hardness achieves what is particularly important for tool steel. Even lower, cheaper steel has the same properties as fine and expensive steel, so that the latter can be replaced by lower steel. Burned steel receives after treatment with the
 EMI1.2
it no longer needs to be thrown away as unusable.

An ordinary drill bit can be hardened so that it can pierce the thickest glass and the hardest metals with ease without noticeably wearing out.
