3 and 4 show the optical part of the device in side elevation and elevation in greater enlargement. To the same scale, FIGS. 5 and 6 in side elevation and elevation show the optical part of the second example, FIGS. 7 and 8 that of the third Example again.
In the first example, a nozzle a is attached to the lower end of a (dotted line) by means of a ring b

and p attached. The prism o, which has a parallelogram-shaped cross-section, shifts part of the incoming light rays downwards by mirroring twice parallel to itself, while the rest of the incoming light rays pass through the prism o unbroken. The light rays pass through the cemented surface into the prism p, which feeds the rays to the rear element of the lens t by means of two mirror surfaces q and r forming a roof edge, in order to serve to illuminate the object to be thought set under the lens from above.
The effect of the mirror prism system o, p can be achieved in another way by means of two prisms s and t drawn as a second exemplary embodiment (FIGS. 5 and 6). The difference between the two systems is that here, in contrast to the shape described above, the additional prism lies next to the object and accordingly the mirror surface, composed of two roof-like inclined parts it and l ', belongs to the additional system. Another difference is also the fact that the prisms s and t are not cemented.
"Instead of the prisms c and p, a third embodiment (FIGS. 7 and 8) drawn prism Ui with two mirror surfaces t and y forming a roof edge can be used. The beam path generally corresponds to that of the first and second example However, if the light rays experience a lateral reversal at the two mirror surfaces q and r or? and c, then for those rays that hit the mirror surfaces a: and y twice, the lateral confusion, which is irrelevant, is canceled, and only the mirror surfaces: c and! / rays of light that hit once suffer the lateral confinement.
The handling of the new lighting device during use corresponds completely to the handling of the vertical illuminator according to Nachet.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Lighting device for microscopes for examining opaque objects, in which the light is thrown through the lens onto the object with the help of a mirror prism system connected in the beam path, characterized in that the mirror surface of the prism system which is closest to the object consists of two roof-like parts inclined towards each other .
