Dies ist durch zwei Eigenschaften des neuen Elementes bedingt, die es für die Herstellung von Glühkathoden besonders wertvoll machen : erstens besitzt es dank seines hohen Schmelzpunktes auch bei hoher Temperatur eine verhältnismässig geringe Verdampfungsgesehwindigkeit und zweitens ist seine Richardsonsche Konstante gering.
(Es ist dies der Wert, der das Mass für die Arbeit angibt, die zur Entfernung eines Elektrons aus dem betreffenden Stoffe erforderlich ist, so dass also bei gleichen sonstigen Bedingungen die Elektronenemission umso grösser ist, je kleiner diese Konstante.)
