Abstract

Un método para producir carbono elemental y gas hidrógeno directamente a partir de gas natural (por ejemplo, metano) con una reacción química o serie de reacciones. En un aspecto, otros materiales involucrados tales como, por ejemplo, magnesio elemental, permanecen igual y actúan como un catalizador. Reivindicación 1: Un método para producir hidrógeno y carbono elemental que comprende hacer reaccionar al menos un metal fundido con al menos un hidrocarburo a una temperatura suficiente para fundir el metal, en donde dicha reacción produce hidrógeno y carbono elemental. Reivindicación 2: Un método para producir hidrógeno y carbono elemental que comprende hacer reaccionar magnesio elemental con un metano a un rango de temperatura de aproximadamente 600ºC a 1000ºC, en donde dicha reacción produce hidrógeno y carbono elemental.
