Abstract

Se divulgan métodos para mejorar el crecimiento de plantas de maíz, que comprenden tratar semillas de maíz o la planta de maíz que germina a partir de la semilla con una cantidad efectiva de al menos un quito-oligosacárido, en donde, tras su cosecha, la planta de maíz exhibe al menos uno de mayor rendimiento de la planta medido en términos de bushels/acres, mayor número de raíces, mayor longitud de raíces, mayor masa de raíces, mayor volumen de raíces y mayor área foliar, en comparación con plantas de maíz no tratadas o plantas de maíz cosechadas a partir de semillas de maíz no tratadas. Reivindicación 1: Un método para mejorar el crecimiento de plantas de maíz, que comprende a) tratar semillas de maíz o la planta de maíz que germina a partir de las semillas con una cantidad efectiva de al menos un CO, en donde, tras su cosecha, la planta exhibe al menos uno de mayor rendimiento de la planta medido en términos de bushels/acres, mayor número de raíces, mayor longitud de raíces, mayor masa de raíces, mayor volumen de raíces y mayor área foliar, en comparación con plantas de maíz no tratadas o plantas de maíz cosechadas a partir de semillas de maíz no tratadas.
