Abstract

Se provee métodos para disminuir el contenido de aldehidos en materiales de poliolefina que comprende combinar con el material de poliolefina un compuesto aditivo orgánico el cual reacciona con aldehídos para formar agua y un compuesto orgánico resultante. El compuesto aditivo orgánico comprende por lo menos dos heteroátomos sustituidos con hidrogeno enlazados a carbonos del compuesto aditivo orgánico de modo que el compuesto aditivo orgánico es reactivo con los aldehídos presentes en la poliolefina para formar agua y el compuesto orgánico resultante, el cual comprende un anillo de cinco o seis miembros no puenteado que incluye al menos dos heteroátomos. El compuesto orgánico resultante ventajosamente no imparte un sabor inapropiado a los productos alimenticios y a las bebidas en contacto con la poliolefina ni decolora la poliolefina. Las poliolefinas preferidas incluyen polipropileno y polietileno.
