Abstract

Se describe la preparacion y el uso de fragmentos de ácidos nucleicos que comprenden todo o sustancialmente todo el promotor de oleosina de maíz, unaestearoil-ACP desaturasa y una delta-12 desaturasa que se pueden emplear individualmente o encombina cion para modificar el perfil de lípidos de maíz. Sepueden emplear genes quiméricos que han incorporado dichos fragmentos de ácidos nucleicos y secuencias reguladoras adecuadas para crear plantas de maíztransgénico con perfiles lipídicosalterados. T ambién se incluyen en la presente, plantas de maíz y partes de las mismas que contienen varios genes quiméricos,semillas de estas plantas, el aceite obtenido del grano de dichas plantas, alimento para animales derivado del procesamientode dicho gran o, el uso del aceitemencionado en alimentos, alimentos para animales, aceite para cocinar o aplicaciones industriales, productos hechos a partir de la hidrogenacion,fraccionamiento, interesterificacion o hidrolisis de dicho aceite ymétodos para mejo rar la calidad de la res.
