Abstract
Se provee un método para mejorar las características de almacenamiento en frío de un tubérculo de papa que exhibe niveles reducidos de actividad de laenzima Ypsilon glucano fosforilasa de tubérculo tipo L(GLTP)Ypsilon glucano fosforilasa de tubérculo tipo H (GHTP) dentro del tubérculo de la papa. Laconversion de almidones a azucares en los tubérculos de la papa especialmente cuando se almacenan a temperaturas por debajo de 7°C se reduce en tubérculosque exhiben actividad de la enzima GLTP o GHTP reducida. Reduciendo el endulzamiento en frío en papas permite el almacenamiento de papas a temperaturamás bajas dando como resultado una vida latente prolongada, incidencia reducida de enfermedad e incrementada vida en almacenamiento. También se proporcionanmétodos para la produccion de plantas de papa que producen tubérculos que exhiben actividad de la enzima GLTP o GHTP reducida. La reduccion de laactividad de GLTP o GHTP en el tubérculo de papa se puede lograr mediante técnicas como ser supresion de la expresion genética utilizando ARNantisentido homologo, el uso de co-supresion, secuencias de silenciamiento regulatorias, inhibidores químicos y protéicos, o el uso de metagénesisdirigida al sitio o a laaislacion de alelos alternativos para obtener variantes de GLTP o GHTP con afinidad o actividad de almidon reducida.
