Abstract
Se proveen porotos de soja (es decir, Glycine max L. Merr) que poseen un nuevo determinante genético para la produccion reducida de ácido linolénico enel aceite vegetal formado endogenamente en las semillas. Dicho determinante genético es el par de genes recesivos homocigotas fan3fan3 que tiene capacidadde formarse por mutagénesis. Una vez formado, dicho determinante genético se puede transferir fácilmente a otras líneas y cultivos de soja donde seexpresa sobre una base confiable bajocondiciones de crecimiento a campo convencinales. En una realizacion preferida una planta de soja presenta lapresencia combinada de los pares de genes recesivos homocigotas 81) fan1fan1 o fan1(A5)fan1(A5), (2) fan2fan2 así como el (3) fan3fan3 para la formacionreducida de ácido linolénico en las semillas y se ha encontrado una expresion inusualmente baja para la produccion de ácido linolénico en el aceite vegetalresultante de las semillas que es menor que un 1,3 por ciento en peso y, con mayor preferencia, no es mayor que un 1,1 por ciento en peso basado en elcontenido de ácidos grasos totales. En este caso de obtiene un aceite vegetal que es, en particular, muy adecuado para las aplicaciones de frituras sinnecesidad de hidrogenacion.
