Definitions
- the present invention relates to a vehicle control device and a vehicle control method.
- the steering unit that steers the vehicle and the turning unit that steers the vehicle's wheels are not mechanically connected, and steering is performed via a steering actuator in the turning unit in response to steering. If the steering actuator fails, the device independently controls the driving force or braking force of the left and right wheels, controls the turning movement of the vehicle, and is equipped with a function that applies a steering reaction force to the steering unit in accordance with the vehicle behavior.
- a yaw moment can be generated in the vehicle by creating a difference in braking/driving force between the left and right wheels of the vehicle, and the alignment characteristics (scrub radius) can be used to steer the steerable wheels in the turning direction of the vehicle, thereby making it possible to turn the vehicle.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a vehicle control device and vehicle control method that can maximize turning performance when an abnormality occurs in the steering function of the steer-by-wire system.
- the vehicle control device when it acquires an abnormality signal of the steering function in the steer-by-wire system, controls the steered wheels to be in a locked state if the vehicle speed is equal to or greater than a predetermined speed threshold, and controls the steered wheels to be in a free state if the vehicle speed is less than the speed threshold.
- the vehicle control method controls the steered wheels to be locked when the steering function of a vehicle equipped with a steer-by-wire system fails from normal operation if the vehicle speed is 60 km/h or higher, and controls the steered wheels to be free when the vehicle speed is less than 30 km/h.
- the present invention makes it possible to maximize cornering performance when an abnormality occurs in the steering function of the steer-by-wire system.

- MPU Microprocessor Unit
- ROM Read Only Memory
- RAM Random Access Memory
- the driving force control unit 31 , the steering control unit 32 , the brake control unit 33 , and the integrated control unit 34 constitute a vehicle control device 30 that controls the vehicle 10 .
- the microcomputers 31A, 32A, 33A, and 34A function as a control unit 30A of the vehicle control device 30.
- FIG. 3 is a block diagram showing the turning control function provided in the control unit 30A.
- the braking/driving force actuator 95 shown in FIG. 3 includes at least the brake actuators 15-18, and also includes a driving force actuator provided on each wheel if the driving force of each wheel can be controlled individually, such as when each wheel of the vehicle 10 is equipped with an in-wheel motor as a driving force actuator.
- the control unit 30A includes functional units, namely, a steering lock command calculation unit 21, a steering free command calculation unit 22, and a steering lock state switching determination unit 23.
- the steering lock command calculation unit 21 and the steering free command calculation unit 22 acquire signals such as a target steering angle signal and a vehicle speed signal estimated from the output of the wheel speed sensor 53 from the steer-by-wire system 40 .
- the steering lock command calculation unit 21 When the steering lock actuator 91 is controlled so that the front wheels 11, 12 are locked, the steering lock command calculation unit 21 generates a braking/driving force difference between the front wheels 11, 12 and between the rear wheels 13, 14, and thereby calculates a braking/driving force command (first braking/driving force) based on the target steering angle, vehicle speed, etc., to generate a yaw moment that turns the vehicle 10 in the direction of operation of the steering wheel 51.
- the steering lock command calculation unit 21 performs vehicle yaw moment control, which is a control that generates a yaw moment that turns the vehicle 10 in the direction of operation of the steering wheel 51, for example, by making the braking force applied to the front and rear inner wheels of a turn greater than the braking force applied to the front and rear outer wheels of a turn.
- vehicle yaw moment control is a control that generates a yaw moment that turns the vehicle 10 in the direction of operation of the steering wheel 51, for example, by making the braking force applied to the front and rear inner wheels of a turn greater than the braking force applied to the front and rear outer wheels of a turn.
- the steer-free command calculation unit 22 calculates braking/driving force commands (second braking/driving force) to be applied to the inside and outside turning wheels to achieve steering control of the front wheels 11, 12 based on the target steering angle, vehicle speed, etc., in accordance with the setting of the scrub radius (kingpin offset) of the front wheels 11, 12. For example, if the scrub radius of the front wheels 11 and 12 is negative, applying a braking force to the left front wheel 11 can cause the front wheels 11 and 12 to turn to the right, and conversely, applying a braking force to the right front wheel 12 can cause the front wheels 11 and 12 to turn to the left.
- the front wheels 11 and 12 can be steered to the left by applying a braking force to the left front wheel 11, and conversely, the front wheels 11 and 12 can be steered to the right by applying a braking force to the right front wheel 12.
- the steer-free command calculation section 22 calculates a braking/driving force command to apply a braking force to the outer wheel of the front wheels 11, 12 when turning.
- the steer-free command calculation unit 22 calculates a braking/driving force command to apply a braking force to the inner wheel of the front wheels 11, 12 when turning, for example.
- the steer-free command calculation unit 22 calculates a braking/driving force command so that the braking force applied to the inner wheel of the rear wheels 13, 14 during a turn is greater than the braking force applied to the outer wheel of the turn.
- the scrub radius of the front wheels 11, 12 when the scrub radius of the front wheels 11, 12 is positive, the braking force applied to the inner turning wheel of the front wheels 11, 12 is increased in both the steer-lock state and the steer-free state.
- the front wheels 11 and 12 In the steering lock state, the front wheels 11 and 12 cannot be steered, generating a yaw moment in the turning direction, whereas in the steering free state, the front wheels 11 and 12 are steered in the turning direction.
- switching between the steering lock state and the steering free state results in switching between the vehicle yaw moment control and the turning control.
- the steering lock state switching determination unit 23 receives from the steer-by-wire system 40 an abnormality signal indicating whether or not there is an abnormality in the steering function, and a vehicle speed signal estimated from the output of the wheel speed sensor 53 . If an abnormality occurs in the steering function of the steer-by-wire system 40, the steering lock state switching determination unit 23 outputs a switching signal (on/off command signal) to the steering lock actuator 91 depending on whether the vehicle speed is above or below a threshold value, thereby switching the steering lock switching mechanism 90 between a locked state and a free state.
- a switching signal on/off command signal
- the steering lock state switching determination unit 23 switches the steering lock switching mechanism 90 to the locked state if the vehicle speed is equal to or greater than a threshold value, and switches the steering lock switching mechanism 90 to the free state if the vehicle speed is less than the threshold value.
- the steering lock state switching determination unit 23 sets the steering lock switching mechanism 90 to the locked state (in other words, when the vehicle speed is equal to or greater than the threshold value)
- it outputs the braking/driving force command calculated by the steering lock command calculation unit 21 (vehicle yaw moment control) to the braking/driving force actuator 95 (brake actuators 15-18).
- the steering lock state switching determination unit 23 sets the steering lock switching mechanism 90 to the free state (in other words, when the vehicle speed is less than the threshold value), it outputs the braking/driving force command calculated by the steering free command calculation unit 22 (steering control) to the braking/driving force actuator 95 (brake actuators 15-18).
- FIG. 4 is a flowchart showing the procedure for turning control when an abnormality occurs in the steering function of the steer-by-wire system 40.
- the control unit 30A determines whether or not an abnormality has occurred in the steering function of the steer-by-wire system 40, in other words, whether or not the steer-by-wire system 40 has malfunctioned.
- control unit 30A does not proceed to the abnormality processing from step S102 onwards, but repeats the determination of normality or abnormality of the steering function in step S101. It should be noted that while the steering function of the steer-by-wire system 40 is normal, the steering lock switching mechanism 90 is held in a free state, and steering control by the steer-by-wire system 40 is carried out normally.
- control unit 30A proceeds from step S101 to step S102, and determines whether or not the vehicle speed is less than the threshold value. If the vehicle speed is equal to or greater than the threshold value, the control unit 30A proceeds to step S103, switches the steering lock switching mechanism 90 to the locked state, and provides the braking/driving force command from the steering lock command calculation unit 21 to the braking/driving force actuator 95 (brake actuators 15-18) to perform vehicle yaw moment control.
- step S104 switches the steering lock switching mechanism 90 to the free state, and provides the braking/driving force command from the steering free command calculation unit 22 to the braking/driving force actuator 95 (brake actuators 15-18) to perform steering control.
- step S105 the control unit 30A ends the turning control when the vehicle 10 decelerates and stops.
- the following describes the action and effect of the turning control, which switches the steering lock switching mechanism 90 between a locked state and a free state depending on the vehicle speed when an abnormality occurs in the steering function of the steer-by-wire system 40, and switches the vehicle turning method between vehicle yaw moment control and steering control depending on this switching.
- FIG. 5 is a diagram showing the correlation between the maximum lateral acceleration obtained by vehicle yaw moment control in a locked state, the maximum lateral acceleration obtained by steering control in a free state, and the scrub radius of the front wheels 11, 12.
- FIG. 6 is a graph showing the correlation between the maximum lateral acceleration obtained by vehicle yaw moment control in a locked state and the maximum lateral acceleration obtained by steering control in a free state and the vehicle speed (speed of the vehicle 10) when the scrub radius of the front wheels 11 and 12 is a certain value.
- the maximum lateral acceleration obtained by vehicle yaw moment control in a locked state is not affected by the scrub radius of the front wheels 11, 12 as shown in FIG. 5 because no steering is performed, but as shown in FIG. 6, it increases as the vehicle speed increases.
- the maximum lateral acceleration obtained by steering control in the free state changes depending on the scrub radius of the front wheels 11, 12 as shown in FIG. 5, but is not affected by the vehicle speed as shown in FIG.
- the maximum lateral acceleration obtained by vehicle yaw moment control in the locked state and the maximum lateral acceleration obtained by steering control in the free state intersect (becoming the same maximum lateral acceleration) when the vehicle speed is a predetermined speed.
- a higher maximum lateral acceleration can be obtained than when performing vehicle yaw moment control in the locked state.
- a higher maximum lateral acceleration can be obtained than by performing steering control in the free state. Therefore, by switching between vehicle yaw moment control in a locked state and steering control in a free state depending on whether the vehicle speed at that time is slower or faster than the intersection point of the maximum lateral acceleration, the lateral acceleration that can be generated by the difference in braking/driving force between the left and right wheels, i.e., cornering performance, can be maximized.
- FIG. 7 is a state diagram that shows a schematic diagram of switching between vehicle yaw moment control in a locked state and steering control in a free state based on a comparison between the vehicle speed and a threshold value. If the vehicle speed is equal to or greater than a threshold value, the steering is locked, and a difference in braking/driving force is generated between the left and right front wheels 11, 12, thereby executing vehicle yaw moment control to generate a yaw moment in the vehicle 10. For example, when the vehicle 10 is turned left, the steering is locked and a braking force is applied to the left front wheel 11, which is the wheel on the inside of the turn, to generate a yaw moment in the left turning direction.
- the vehicle is switched to a steer-free state, and a difference in braking and driving force is generated between the left and right front wheels 11, 12, and steering control is executed to steer the front wheels 11, 12 in the turning direction.
- a difference in braking and driving force is generated between the left and right front wheels 11, 12, and steering control is executed to steer the front wheels 11, 12 in the turning direction.
- braking force is applied to the right front wheel 12, which is the turning outer wheel, to steer the front wheels 11, 12 to the left.
- the maximum lateral acceleration that can be generated by steering control in a free state varies depending on the scrub radius as well as vehicle specifications such as vehicle weight, vehicle length, tread, and wheelbase, so a vehicle speed threshold value for switching between vehicle yaw moment control in a locked state and steering control in a free state is determined based on these factors.
- the control unit 30A can variably set the threshold value according to the scrub radius at that time, and the control unit 30A can also output a command to return the scrub radius to the specified scrub radius if the scrub radius has been changed from the specified scrub radius that matches the threshold value.
- the threshold value is changed depending on vehicle specifications including the scrub radius of the front wheels 11, 12, but generally, the front wheels 11, 12 are switched between locked and free states at the following vehicle speed ranges.
- vehicle yaw moment control is performed with the front wheels 11, 12 in a steering-lock state
- vehicle yaw moment control is performed with the front wheels 11, 12 in a steer-free state
- steering control is performed with the front wheels 11, 12 in a steer-free state.
- the vehicle speed threshold is set within a speed range of 30 km/h or more and less than 60 km/h. Therefore, according to the vehicle control device 30 having the above-described turning control function, when the steering function of the steer-by-wire system 40 fails from normal operation, the front wheels 11, 12 are controlled to be in a steering-lock state if the vehicle speed is in the high-speed range of 60 km/h or more, and the front wheels 11, 12 are controlled to be in a steer-free state if the vehicle speed is in the low-speed range of less than 30 km/h.
- FIG. 8 is a diagram showing a method for setting a threshold value of a vehicle speed based on a scrub radius. Assuming that the scrub radius of the vehicle 10 is R1 (a predetermined negative value), the maximum lateral acceleration generated at this scrub radius R1 is the maximum lateral acceleration ⁇ ymax1 that can be generated by steering control in a free state. The vehicle speed V1 at which the maximum lateral acceleration ⁇ ymax1 occurs in the vehicle yaw moment control in the locked state is set as the threshold value.
- steering control is performed in a free state when the vehicle speed is below the threshold, thereby obtaining a maximum lateral acceleration ⁇ ymax1, and by performing vehicle yaw moment control in a locked state when the vehicle speed is above the threshold, a maximum lateral acceleration higher than the maximum lateral acceleration ⁇ ymax1 can be generated the higher the vehicle speed is above the threshold.
- the free state and the locked state are switched so as to generate the greater maximum lateral acceleration between the maximum lateral acceleration obtained by steering control in the free state and the maximum lateral acceleration obtained by vehicle yaw moment control in the locked state.
- the threshold value can be a vehicle speed that deviates from the vehicle speed V1 at which the maximum lateral acceleration ⁇ ymax1 occurs during vehicle yaw moment control in a locked state, and there is no limitation to setting the threshold value to the vehicle speed V1 at which the maximum lateral acceleration ⁇ ymax1 occurs during vehicle yaw moment control in a locked state.
- FIG. 9 is a time chart showing how the steering lock switching mechanism 90 switches between lock/free and turning control during deceleration control when an abnormality occurs in the steering function of the steer-by-wire system 40 while the vehicle 10 is traveling.
- the vehicle speed at that time is equal to or greater than the threshold value, so the front wheels 11, 12 are placed in a steering lock state and vehicle yaw moment control is performed.
- the vehicle 10 may be a vehicle in which the steered wheels steered by the steer-by-wire system 40 are the rear wheels.
- cornering control by distributing braking and driving forces to the front and rear wheels is not limited to being performed by the driver in manual driving mode, but can also be applied when an abnormality occurs in the steering function of the steer-by-wire system in automatic driving mode.
- the steering operation input mechanism in the steer-by-wire system 40 is not limited to the steering wheel 51, but may be a lever, a joystick, or the like.
- control section that controls the steering lock switching mechanism 90 is not limited to the integrated control unit 34.
- the steering control unit 32, the brake control unit 33, etc. may be a system that controls the steering lock switching mechanism 90 (steering lock actuator 91).
- the control unit for controlling the steering lock switching mechanism 90 may be provided in the same hierarchy as the steering control unit 32, the brake control unit 33, and the like.
