Abstract

실시예에 따른 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물, 이를 포함하는 반사형 컬러 변환모듈 및 이를 포함하는 가전기기에 관한 것이다. 실시예에 따른 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물은, 광결정 입자 및 상기 광결정 입자가 분산되는 분산용매를 포함하며, 상기 분산용매의 굴절률과 상기 광결정 입자의 굴절률의 차이가 0.1 이상일 수 있다. 상기 분산용매는 Benzene계 분산용매를 포함하며, 상기 분산용매의 유전율은 2.24 내지 35.0일 수 있다.

Description

반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물, 이를 포함하는 반사형 컬러 변환모듈 및 이를 포함하는 가전기기
실시예는 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물, 이를 포함하는 반사형 컬러 변환모듈 및 이를 포함하는 가전기기에 관한 것이다.
반사형 컬러변환 표시소자 중에 매질에 분산된 입자의 광결정(photonic crystal)을 이용한 표시방법이 있다.
광결정은 매질 내에 정렬된 입자 또는 3차원 구조물을 의미하며, 외부로부터 광결정에 입사된 빛이 3차원 구조에 의해 Bragg 회절되어 특정 파장의 빛만 반사되는 특징을 갖는다. 이러한 광결정은 전기장에 의해 구조상 입자 간격이 변화하는 성질을 이용하여 컬러 가변 광결정 표시소자로 사용되고 있다.
이러한 컬러 가변 광결정 표시소자는 RGB 풀컬러를 구현하기 위해 컬러필터를 필요로 하지 않고, 얇게 구현 가능하면서도 높은 반사율을 얻을 수 있다.
종래기술에서는 표면 전하를 갖는 특정 크기의 입자를 분산용매에 분산시켜 액상 콜로이드 광결정을 제조하고, 자기장 인가를 통해 반사색을 조절하는 기술이 이용되고 있다.
그런데, 종래기술의 컬러가변 광결정 표시소자에 지속적으로 전기장이 가해지는 경우 표지소자의 전극이 흑화(darkening)되는 문제가 있다. 예를 들어, 콜로이드 분산용매로 사용하는 물(H2O)의 경우 전기화학반응에 의해 수소가 발생되며, 부반응으로 인해 ITO 등의 투명 전극이 흑화(darkening)되는 문제가 있다.
또한 종래기술은 광결정 입자의 분산성 향상을 위해 입자 표면에 고온 상태에서 장시간의 소수화 표면처리가 요구되는 문제가 있다.
한편, 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물에서 분산용매의 상대 유전율이 증가할수록 광결정 입자의 이동도가 증가되며, 이에 따라 컬러 가변 속도가 빨라지고, 컬러 가변 범위는 넓어지며, 동작전압은 낮아진다.
하지만, 분산용매의 유전율이 증가하면 투명 전극의 흑화(darkening)가 가속되어 컬러 품질을 낮아지는 문제가 있다.
반면, 분산용매의 유전율이 낮아지면 투명 전극의 흑화 현상이 덜 발생되나, 광결정 입자의 이동도가 급격하게 감소하기 때문에 컬러 가변 속도가 느려지고, 컬러 가변 범위는 좁아지게 되는 기술적 모순이 발생하고 있다.
한편, 종래 컬러가변 광결정 표시소자는 컬러에 대한 시야각 의존성이 존재하며, 같은 동작 전압에서도 바라보는 각도인 시야각에 따라서 컬러가 달라지게 되는 문제점이 있다.
또한 종래 기술에서는 입사광의 반사가 난 반사되어 백색산란이 발생함에 따라 컬러 선명도가 저하되는 문제가 있다.
또한 종래 컬러가변 광결정 표시소자에서 실제적인 색 가변 범위는 이상적 가변 범위 대비 비교적 좁은 영역을 가지게 되는 문제가 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 광결정 모듈에서 RGB 서브 픽셀 구조를 채용하여 풀 컬러(full color)를 구현하는 시도가 있지만, 별도의 RGB 서브 픽셀 구조로 풀 컬러를 구현함에 따라 공정과 구조의 복잡도가 증가하는 문제가 있다.
실시예의 기술적 과제 중의 하나는 컬러 가변 속도를 높이고, 컬러 가변 범위를 넓히면서도 투명 전극의 흑화(darkening) 발생이 방지될 수 있는 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물, 이를 포함하는 반사형 컬러 변환모듈 및 이를 포함하는 가전기기를 제공하고자 함이다.

실시예에 따른 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물은, 광결정 입자 및 상기 광결정 입자가 분산되는 분산용매를 포함하며, 상기 분산용매의 굴절률과 상기 광결정 입자의 굴절률의 차이가 0.1 이상일 수 있다.
상기 분산용매는 Benzene계 분산용매를 포함하며, 상기 분산용매의 유전율은 2.24 내지 35.0일 수 있다.
상기 분산용매는, 이산화질소기(NO2) 또는 염소기 (Cl-)의 기능기를 포함하는 Nitrobenzene, Dichlorobenzene, Chlorobenzene, Trichlorobenzene 중 적어도 하나 이상을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 분산용매는, 이산화질소기(NO2) 또는 염소기 (Cl-)의 기능기를 포함하는 Nitrobenzene, Dichlorobenzene, Chlorobenzene, Trichlorobenzene 중 적어도 하나 두개 이상을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 분산용매의 굴절률은 1.52~1.57일 수 있다.
상기 분산용매의 굴절률과 상기 광결정 입자의 굴절률의 차이는 0.1 내지 0.15일 수 있다.

또한 실시예에 따른 반사형 컬러 변환모듈은, 하부 전극, 상부 전극 및 상기 하부 전극과 상기 상부 전극 사이에 배치되는 상기 어느 하나의 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물을 포함할 수 있다.
또한 실시예에 따른 가전기기는, 상기 반사형 컬러 변환모듈을 구비할 수 있다.
실시예에 따른 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물, 이를 포함하는 반사형 컬러 변환모듈 및 이를 포함하는 가전기기는, 컬러 가변 속도를 높이고, 컬러 가변 범위를 넓히면서도 투명 전극의 흑화(darkening) 발생이 방지될 수 있는 기술적 효과가 있다.
예를 들어, 실시예에 의하면, 분산용매의 상대 유전율 제어를 통해, 컬러 가변 범위(Δλ)를 약 100nm 이상으로 넓히면서도 컬러 가변속도를 높일 수 있고, 또한 투명 전극의 흑화(darkening) 현상을 방지할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 실시예에 의하면 다양한 상대 유전율을 갖는 Benzene계 분산용매를 사용하여, 분산용매의 상대 유전율 제어를 통해 컬러 가변 범위를 넓히면서도 컬러 가변속도를 높일 수 있고, 또한 투명 전극의 흑화(darkening) 현상을 방지할 수 있다.
또한 예를 들어, 실시예에 의하면 이산화질소기(NO2) 또는 염소기 (Cl-) 등의 기능기를 포함하는 Benzene계 분산용매를 채용함에 따라, 기능기의 종류 및 기능기 수량을 Mono-, Di-, Tri-등으로 제어를 할 수 있다. 이에 따라 상대 유전율의 제어 가능한 Benzene계 분산용매 사용을 통해 컬러의 가변 범위, 동작 전압, 반사 스펙트럼의 반사율을 제어하는 것이 가능한 기술적 효과가 있다.
또한 실시예에 의하면, 분산용매의 굴절률을 제어하여 광결정 입자의 굴절률와의 상대적인 굴절률 차이를 제어함으로써 더욱 선명한 컬러 구현이 가능한 기술적 효과가 있다.
예를 들어, 실시예에 의하면 분산용매의 굴절률이 광결정 입자의 굴절률과의 차이가 0.1 이상 되도록 제어하여 더욱 선명한 컬러 구현이 가능한 기술적 효과가 있다.
예를 들어, 실시예에 의하면 이산화질소기(NO2) 또는 염소기 (Cl-) 등의 기능기를 포함하는 Benzene계 분산용매를 채용함에 따라 분산용매의 굴절률이 광결정 입자의 굴절률과의 차이가 0.1 이상 되도록 제어할 수 있고, 이를 통해 분산용매의 큰 굴절률은 입사광으로부터 광결정 입자의 공극 사이에서 반사되는 반사광의 전체 양을 증가시켜 더욱 높은 반사율을 갖게 하여 선명한 컬러 구현이 가능한 기술적 효과가 있다.
또한 실시예에 의하면 광결정 입자는 그 표면이 수산화기(OH-)를 구비함에 따라 광결정 입자에 대한 소수화 처리없이 전하 조절제 첨가로 우수한 컬러 특성을 갖는 광결정 잉크 조성물을 제공할 수 있는 기술적 효과가 있다.
또한 실시예에 의하면, 컬러에 대한 시야각 의존성을 낮출 수 있는 기술적 효과가 있다.
예를 들어, 실시예는 광자 유리(Photonic Glass)가 갖는 입자의 비규칙 배열, 예를 들어, 준 아몰퍼스(quasi-amorphous) 구조에 의해 바라보는 각도에 따라서 컬러가 달라지는 시야각 의존성을 해결할 수 있다.
또한 실시예에 의하면, 입사광의 난 반사로 인한 컬러 선명도가 저하되는 문제를 해결할 수 있는 효과가 있다.
예를 들어, 실시예에 의하면 광흡수 물질을 함께 첨가하는 것을 통해 난반사로 인한 백색 산란을 최소화하여 컬러 가변 모듈의 컬러의 선명도를 개선할 수 있다.
또한 실시예에 의하면 색 가변 범위가 좁은 영역을 가지게 되는 문제를 해결할 수 있는 효과가 있다.
예를 들어, 실시예는 단일층 또는 복수층을 포함하는 컬러 가변 모듈를 구비함에 따라 CIE1931 색좌표 상에서 넓은 색영역을 갖는 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물, 이를 포함하는 반사형 컬러 변환모듈 및 이를 포함하는 가전기기를 제공할 수 있다.
또한 실시예는 컬러 가변 모듈의 적층수 및 분할 면적이 증가할수록 더 넓은 색영역을 제공할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 단일층의 컬러 가변 모듈은 넓은 원색을 표현할 수 있으며, 이중층의 컬러 가변모듈은 컬러 혼합 구현이 가능하여 CIE1931 색영역 내의 모든 컬러 구현이 가능하다. 또한 보다 정밀한 컬러 제어가 필요한 경우, 서브 픽셀로 구동이 가능하다.
실시예의 기술적 효과는 본 항목에 기재된 것에 한정되지 않으며 발명의 설명을 통해 파악될 수 있는 것을 포함한다.

본 명세서에서 설명되는 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물은 냉장고, 세탁기, 스타일러, 티비, 디스플레이, 벽지, 싱크대 등 가전 및 인테리어 등에 사용될 수 있으며, 추후 개발되는 새로운 제품형태이라도, 광결정 잉크 조성물이 적용 가능한 제품에 적용될 수 있다.
도 1은 실시예에 따른 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물을 포함하는 반사형 컬러 변환모듈(200)이 적용된 가전(1000)을 나타낸 도면이다. 도 1에는 실시예가 적용된 가전(1000)으로 냉장고가 도시되어 있으나, 이에 한정되지 않으며 컬러 가변이 가능한 가지는 가전, 디스플레이 장치 및 홈 인테리어 구성들 포함할 수 있다.
도 1을 참조하면, 실시예에 따른 가전(1000)은 복수 개의 반사형 컬러 변환모듈(200)을 포함하며, 상기 반사형 컬러 변환모듈(200)은 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물을 포함할 수 있다. 상기 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물은 자체적으로 발광하는 것이 아닌 반사광에 의하여 컬러를 표시할 수 있으며, 전기장이 인가되면 광결정 잉크 조성물의 공극이 변화되어 특정 컬러를 표시하고, 이후에는 전원공급이 없더라도 컬러를 지속적으로 표시할 수 있어서 대기전력 소비를 방지할 수 있다. 또한, 동일한 제품에 대해 전기장을 제어하여 반사광에 의한 컬러를 변환시킬 수 있어서 컬러를 다양하게 표시할 수 있으며, 심미성을 향상시킬 수 있다.
(제1 실시예)
도 2는 제1 실시예에 따른 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물을 구비하는 전기영동 소자(110)의 개념도이다. 이하 '제1 실시예'는 '실시예'로 약칭될 수 있다.
도 2를 참조하면, 제1 실시예에서 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물(117)이 전기영동 소자(110)의 셀 내에서 배열될 수 있다.
반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물(117)은 광결정 입자(140)와 상기 광결정 입자(140)가 분산된 분산용매를 포함하며, 극성을 가질 수 있다. 이에 따라, 하부 전극(115a) 및 상부 전극(115b)을 통해 전원이 인가되었을 때, 광결정 입자(140)들이 전기장에 방향에 따라 이동하며 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물(117)의 배열이 변화할 수 있다. 광결정 입자(140) 간의 공극이 좁아지거나, 증가함에 따라 입사된 광을 반사시키는 파장이 변화하며 이에 대응하는 컬러를 표시할 수 있다.
전기영동 소자(110)의 상부 전극(115b)은 투광성 전극을 포함할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상부 전극(115b)은 ITO(indium tin oxide), IZO(indium zinc oxide), IZTO(indium zinc tin oxide), IAZO(indium aluminum zinc oxide), IGZO(indium gallium zinc oxide), IGTO(indium gallium tin oxide), AZO(aluminum zinc oxide), ATO(antimony tin oxide), GZO(gallium zinc oxide), IZON(IZO Nitride), AGZO(Al-Ga ZnO), IGZO(In-Ga ZnO) 중 적어도 하나를 포함하여 형성될 수 있으나 이에 한정되는 않는다.
이하 실시예에 따른 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물의 제조 방법 및 그 기술적 특징에 대해 설명하기로 한다.
<제1 단계: 광결정 입자 전처리>
실시예에 따른 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물의 광결정 입자(140)는 단분산 무기 또는 유기 고분자 입자, 산화물 또는 금속 광결정 입자 중 어느 하나 이상을 포함할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 광결정 입자(140)는 스타이렌계 고분자, 아크릴레이트계 고분자, 무기 산화물, 무기 금속 중 어느 하나 이상을 포함할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 광결정 입자(140)는 실리카(SiO2)를 포함할 수 있으나 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
상기 광결정 입자(140)는 졸-겔법, 공침법, 수열합성법 등의 공정으로 합성된 것일 수 있으나, 이에 한정하지 않는다. 예를 들어, 광결정 입자(140)는 졸-겔법으로 제조된 단분산 실리카 광결정 입자에 존재하는 불순물 및 수분을 원심분리기 및 가열 건조기로 전처리를 실시할 수 있으나 이에 한정되지 않는다.
또한, 상기 광결정 입자(140)는 그 표면에 수산화기(OH-)를 포함할 수 있다. 또는 상기 광결정 입자(140)는 그 표면에 수산화기(OH-)를 포함하지 않더라도, 표면코팅 또는 표면 개질을 통해 수산화기(OH-)를 포함할 수 있다. 이에 따라 단분산 무기 또는 유기 고분자 광결정 입자의 표면이 분산용매의 친수성 또는 소수성 특성과 매칭이 될 수 있다.
실시예에 의하면 광결정 입자는 그 표면이 수산화기(OH-)를 구비함에 따라 광결정 입자에 대한 소수화 처리없이 전하 조절제 첨가로 우수한 컬러 특성을 갖는 광결정 잉크 조성물을 제공할 수 있는 기술적 효과가 있다.
또한, 상기 광결정 입자(140)는 진구형 입자 또는 중공구조를 가질 수 있다. 또한, 상기 광결정 입자(140)의 굴절률은 1.2 내지 1.45 일 수 있으나 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다. 예를 들어, 상기 광결정 입자(140)의 굴절률은 1.3 내지 1.42 일 수 있으나 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
또한, 상기 광결정 입자(140)의 입경은 100nm 내지 250nm일 수 있다. 또한, 상기 광결정 입자(140)의 입경은 120nm 내지 200nm일 수 있다. 또한, 상기 광결정 입자(140)의 입경은 150nm 내지 200nm일 수 있다. 상기 광결정 입자(140)의 입경의 편차는 20nm이하일 수 있다. 또한, 상기 광결정 입자(140)의 변동계수(coefficient of variation, CV)는 10%이하일 수 있다.
실시예의 광결정 잉크 조성물에서 광결정 입자(140)의 부피비는 15vol% 내지 40vol%일 수 있다. 자세하게 상기 광결정 입자(140)의 부피비는 18vol% 내지 30vol%일 수 있다. 상기 광결정 입자(140)의 부피비가 15vol% 미만인 경우에는 광결정 구조를 형성하기 어려우며, 그 부피비가 40vol%를 초과하면 잉크의 점도가 급격하게 증가되어 광결정 구조를 형성하기 어렵고, 광결정 구조를 형성하더라도 전압 인가시 반응속도가 느릴 수 있다.
도 3은 실시예에서 평균 입경이 180nm와 200nm인 광결정 입자의 함량에 따른 반사 스펙트럼에 나타난 반사 파장에 대한 그래프이다.
도 3을 참조하면, 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물의 입자의 부피비가 20% 내지 25%일 때, 반사광의 파장은 약 534 nm 내지 520nm일 수 있으며, 그린(Green) 컬러를 가질 수 있다.
또한, 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물의 입자의 부피비가 25% 내지 35%일 때, 반사광의 파장은 약 500nm 내지 520nm일 수 있으며, 시안(Cyan) 컬러를 가질 수 있다.
또한 실시에에서 광결정 입자의 입경이 증가할수록 동일 부피비에서의 광결정 입자의 거리 길어질 수 있다. 따라서 평균 입경이 200nm인 광결정 입자의 부피비가 20% 내지 25%인 때, 반사광의 파장은 620nm 내지 650nm 일 수 있으며, 레드(Red) 컬러를 가질 수 있다. 또한, 평균 입경이 200nm인 광결정 입자의 부피비가 30% 이상일 경우, 그린(Green) 파장을 가질 수 있다.
한편, 광결정 입자 함량이 증가하면 동일 분산 면적에서 광결정 입자간의 거리가 짧아지게 되어, 광결정 입자 사이에 존재하는 공극의 크기 또한 작아질 수 있다. 이에 따라, 분산용매에 분산된 광결정 입자의 함량이 증가할수록 반사 스펙트럼의 중심파장은 단파장으로 이동할 수 있다.
따라서, 실시예는 광결정 입자의 표면 처리 없이 분산용매에 첨가되는 광결정 입자의 함량제어만으로 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물의 컬러를 제어할 수 있는 기술적 효과가 있다.
다음으로 도 4는 실시예에서 광결정 입자의 입경에 따른 반사스펙트럼을 나타낸 그래프이다.
도 4를 참조하면, 분산용매에 첨가된 광결정 입자의 입경이 약 180nm일 때, 반사 스펙트럼의 파장은 520nm 내지 565nm일 수 있으며, 그린 컬러를 반사시킬 수 있다. 또한, 광결정 입자의 입경이 약 200nm일 때, 반사 스펙트럼의 파장은 625nm 내지 740nm일 수 있으며, 레드 컬러를 반사시킬 수 있다. 동일한 광결정 입자의 부피비에서 광결정 입자의 입경이 증가할수록 광결정 입자의 수가 감소하여, 반사 스펙트럼은 장파장으로 이동할 수 있다. 이에 따라, 실시예는 광결정 입자의 표면 처리 없이 분산용매에 첨가되는 광결정 입자의 입경을 제어하여 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물의 컬러를 제어할 수 있는 기술적 효과가 있다.
<제2 단계: 분산용매, 전하조절제 혼합>
실시예에 의하면, 컬러 가변 속도를 높이고, 컬러 가변 범위를 넓히면서도 투명 전극의 흑화(darkening) 발생이 방지될 수 있는 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물, 이를 포함하는 반사형 컬러 변환모듈 및 이를 포함하는 가전기기를 제공할 수 있다.
또한 실시예에 의하면, 분산용매의 굴절률을 제어하여 광결정 입자의 굴절률과 상대적인 굴절률 차이를 제어함으로써 보다 선명한 컬러 구현이 가능한 기술적 효과가 있다.

실시예에 의하면 굴절율이 1.52 이상인 Benzene계 분산용매를 채용할 수 있고, 이에 따라 분산용매의 굴절률이 광결정 입자의 굴절률과의 차이가 0.1 이상 되도록 제어함으로써 더욱 선명한 컬러 구현이 가능한 기술적 효과가 있다.
예를 들어, 실시예에 의하면 이산화질소기(NO2) 또는 염소기 (Cl-) 등의 기능기를 포함하는 Nitrobenzene(NB), Dichlorobenzene(DCB), Chlorobenzene(CB), Trichlorobenzene(TCB) 등의 Benzene계 분산용매를 채용함에 따라 분산용매의 굴절률이 1.52~1.57일 수 있으며, 이에 따라 광결정 입자의 굴절률(약 1.42)과의 차이가 0.1 내지 0.15가 되도록 제어할 수 있다. 이에 따라 분산용매의 큰 굴절률은 입사광으로부터 광결정 입자의 공극 사이에서 반사되는 반사광의 총양을 증가시켜 더욱 높은 반사율을 갖게 하여 선명한 컬러 구현이 가능한 기술적 효과가 있다.
또한 실시예에 의하면, 분산용매의 유전율을 2.24 내지 35.0으로 제어를 통해, 컬러 가변 범위(Δλ)를 약 100nm 이상으로 넓히면서도 컬러 가변속도를 높일 수 있고, 또한 투명 전극의 흑화(darkening) 현상을 방지할 수 있다. 또한 상기 분산용매의 유전율을 4.0 내지 35.0으로 제어하여 컬러 가변 범위(Δλ)를 약 100nm 이상으로 넓히면서도 컬러 가변속도를 높일 수 있고, 또한 투명 전극의 흑화(darkening) 현상을 방지할 수 있다.
또한 실시예에 의하면 다양한 상대 유전율을 갖는 Benzene계 분산용매를 사용하여, 분산용매의 상대 유전율 제어를 통해 컬러 가변 범위를 넓히면서도 컬러 가변속도를 높일 수 있고, 또한 투명 전극의 흑화(darkening) 현상을 방지할 수 있다.
또한 실시예의 분산용매는 100℃이상의 끓는점을 갖는 용매로서, 잉크 제조 공정 중 용매의 휘발이 최소화되어 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물에 포함되는 광결정 입자의 농도 변화가 최소화될 수 있다.
또한 실시예에 의하면 이산화질소기(NO2) 또는 염소기 (Cl-) 등의 기능기를 포함하는 Benzene계 분산용매를 채용함에 따라, 기능기의 종류 및 기능기 수량을 Mono-, Di-, Tri- 등으로 제어를 할 수 있다. 이에 따라 상대 유전율의 제어 가능한 Benzene계 분산용매 사용을 통해 컬러의 가변 범위, 동작 전압, 반사 스펙트럼의 반사율을 제어하는 것이 가능한 기술적 효과가 있다.
또한 실시예는 이산화질소기(NO2) 또는 염소기 (Cl-) 등의 기능기를 포함하는 Benzene계 분산용매와 함께 플루오린(F), 브로민(Br), 아이오딘(I), 아스타틴(At), 테네신(Ts) 등의 할로겐 화합물을 포함할 수 있다.
또한 실시예는 전하조절제 또는 분산 안정제를 포함할 수 있으며, 전하조절제의 함량에 따라 광결정 잉크의 분산 안정성 및 광결정 입자간 반발력이 극대화되어 광결정의 반사율을 최대화할 수 있다.
상기 전하조절제는 분산 안정성 개선 및 컬러 품질 개선을 위해 0.1 ~ 20wt%일 수 있으며, 바람직하게는 0.5~10wt%일 수 있다.
상기 분산안정제는 함량이 10wt% 이하일 수 있으며, 이를 초과하면, 광결정 입자간 재응집을 유발하여 컬러품질이 저하될 수 있다. 상기 분산안정제는 Phenylalkylamine(PAA)계에 분산 가능한 분산안정제일 수 있으나 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
<제3 단계: 광결정 입자 분산 및 잉크 조성물 제조>
실시예는 광결정 입자(140)를 분산용매에 혼합한 후, 초음파 분산, 볼밀 분산 등의 기계적 방법으로 혼합하여 광결정 구조를 갖는 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물을 제조할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 광결정 입자를 약 15 vol% 내지 40 vol%로 함량별로 분산용매에 혼합 후, 초음파 분산, 볼밀 분산 등으로 혼합하여 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물을 제조할 수 있다.
또한 실시예는 분산용매에 0 wt% 초과 내지 20 wt% 함량의 전하조절제를 추가한 혼합 용매에 광결정 입자를 분산시켜 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물을 제조할 수 있으나 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다. 상기 전하 조절제는 Solsperse(Lubrizol社), OLOA(Oronite Company LLC), AOT (Aerosol-OT), Sorbitan 계(Span® )등이 사용될 수 있으나 이에 한정되지 않는다.
<제4 단계: 반사형 광결정 소자 제작>
이어서, 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물을 하부 전극(115a)과 상부 전극(115b)을 구비하는 반사형 광결정 소자에 주입하고 잉크 주입구를 밀봉한 후 반사형 컬러 변환모듈을 제조할 수 있다.
상부 전극(115b)과 하부 전극(115b) 사이의 거리는 약 10 ㎛ ~ 약 1,000 ㎛일 수 있다. 바람직하게 상기 전극간 거리는 약 20 ㎛ ~ 약 100㎛로 제어될 수 있고, 이에 따라 구동 안정성 및 컬러 품질이 향상될 수 있다.
상기 상부 전극(115b)과 하부 전극(115b) 사이의 거리가 10 ㎛ 미만인 경우에는 잉크 주입량이 너무 적어서 컬러의 반사율이 낮아질 수 있다. 상기 상부 전극(115b)과 하부 전극(115b) 사이의 거리가 1,000 ㎛ 초과시 소자 구동에 필요한 전압이 증가하여 소비전력을 증가시킬 수 있다.
상기 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물의 주입이 끝난 소자는 잉크 주입구가 열 또는 UV 등의 수단으로 경화될 수 있는 고분자 수지로 밀봉될 수 있다.
<제5 단계: 컬러 특성 평가>
다음으로 밀봉이 완료된 반사형 광결정 소자는 분광 광도계 등을 사용하여 동작 전압별 외관 컬러 및 반사 스펙트럼이 분석될 수 있다.
이하 제1 실시예의 실험예와 비교예를 기초로 실시예의 기술적 특징을 보다 상세히 설명하기로 한다.
<제1 실험예>
아래 표 2는 상대 유전율이 9.8인 Dichlorobenzene 분산용매가 적용된 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물 평가 결과 데이터이다.

제1 실험예에 의하면, Dichlorobenzene을 분산용매로 적용한 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물은 사용된 실리카 광결정 입자의 함량(vo%)과 전하조절제의 함량(wt%)에 따라 초기 중심파장 및 반사율이 결정될 수 있다.
제1 실험예에 의하면, 분산용매의 상대 유전율 제어를 통해, 컬러 가변 범위(Δλ)를 약 100nm 이상으로 넓히면서도 컬러 가변속도를 높일 수 있고, 또한 투명 전극의 흑화(darkening) 현상을 방지할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 제1 실험예에 의하면 컬러 가변 범위가 176nm 내지 191nm인 광결정 잉크 조성물을 확보하였으며, 동작 전압도 4.0V로 매우 낮으며, 분산용매의 큰 굴절률에 의해 선명한 컬러 구현이 가능하며, ITO 투명 전극의 흑화(darkening) 현상이 발생되지 않았다.
이에 따라 실시예에 의하면 광결정 입자와 0.1 이상의 굴절률 차이를 가지면서 다양한 유전율 특성을 갖는 분산용매를 사용하여, 우수한 반사율을 가지면서 낮은 동작 전압에서 넓은 컬러 가변 범위를 갖을 수 있는 복합적 기술적 효과가 있다.
<제2 실험예>
다음으로 아래 표 3은 Dichlorobenzene(DCB), Trichlorobenzene(TCB) 및 Chlorobenzene(CB)의 3가지 Benzene계 분산용매를 단독 또는 혼합하여 유전율을 제어하여 컬러 가변 성능을 분석한 데이터이다.

제2 실험예에 의하면, 상대 유전율이 2.24 내지 9.8 범위의 Dichlorobenzene(DCB), Chlorobenzene(CB) 및 Trichlorobenzene(TCB)의 3가지 Benzene계 분산용매를 혼합하거나 단독으로 분산용매로 적용한 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물이며, 사용된 실리카 광결정 입자의 함량(vo%)과 전하조절제의 함량(wt%)에 따라 초기 중심파장 및 반사율이 결정될 수 있다.
제2 실험예에 의하면, 분산용매의 상대 유전율을 약 4.0 내지 8.0으로 제어를 통해, 컬러 가변 범위(Δλ)를 118nm 내지 185nm인 광결정 잉크 조성물을 확보하였으며, 동작 전압도 2.5V 내지 4.0V로 매우 낮으며, 분산용매의 큰 굴절률에 의해 선명한 컬러 구현이 가능하며, ITO 투명 전극의 흑화(darkening) 현상이 발생되지 않았다.
이에 따라 실시예에 의하면 이산화질소기(NO2) 또는 염소기 (Cl-) 등의 기능기를 포함하는 Benzene계 분산용매를 채용함에 따라, 기능기의 종류 및 기능기 수량을 Mono-, Di-, Tri- 등으로 제어를 할 수 있다. 이에 따라 상대 유전율의 제어 가능한 Benzene계 분산용매 사용을 통해 컬러의 가변 범위, 동작 전압, 반사 스펙트럼의 반사율을 제어하는 것이 가능한 기술적 효과가 있다.
또한 실시예에 의하면 이산화질소기(NO2) 또는 염소기 (Cl-) 등의 기능기를 포함하는 Benzene계 분산용매를 채용함에 따라 분산용매의 굴절률이 광결정 입자의 굴절률과의 차이가 0.1 이상 되도록 제어할 수 있고, 이를 통해 분산용매의 큰 굴절률은 입사광으로부터 광결정 입자의 공극 사이에서 반사되는 반사광의 총양을 증가시켜 더욱 높은 반사율을 갖게 하여 선명한 컬러 구현이 가능한 기술적 효과가 있다.
<제3 실험예>
아래 표 4는 Nitrobenzene을 분산용매로 적용한 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물에 대한 데이터이다.

제3 실험예는 상대 유전율이 34.82인 Nitrobenzene을 분산용매로 적용한 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물이며, 사용된 실리카 광결정 입자의 함량(vo%)과 전하조절제의 함량(wt%)에 따라 초기 중심파장 및 반사율이 결정될 수 있다.
내부 연구에 의하면, 높은 유전율을 갖는 분산용매에서는 ITO 투명전극의 흑화 현상이 나타나는 문제가 있으며, 실시예는 높은 유전율의 분산용매로 인해 투명전극의 흑화되는 현상을 방지하기 위해 투명 상부 전극표면에 약 100nm 이하 두께의 보호막, 예를 들어 SiO2 보호막을 증착하여 투명 상부 전극의 흑화 (Darkening) 현상을 방지할 수 있다.
제3 실험예에 의하면 실리카 광결정 입자의 크기 및 함량 최적화를 통해 컬러 가변 범위를 214nm 내지 240nm인 광결정 잉크 조성물을 확보하였으며, 동작전압은 3.0V로 매우 낮은 것을 알 수 있다.
제3 실험예에 의하면, 분산용매의 상대 유전율 제어를 통해, 컬러 가변 범위(Δλ)를 약 100nm 이상으로 넓히면서도 컬러 가변속도를 높일 수 있고, 또한 투명 전극의 흑화(darkening) 현상을 방지할 수 있다.
<비교예 1>
비교예 1에서는 상대 유전율이 약 2.0 인 Isoparaffin을 분산용매로 적용한 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물을 제조하고 평가하였다. 구체적으로 비교예 1에서는 실리카 입자와 굴절률이 유사한 Isoparaffin을 분산용매로 채용하여 광결정 잉크 제조 및 특성을 평가하였다.
한편, 비교예 1에서는 분산용매인 Isoparaffin과 실리카의 굴절률 차이가 거의 없기 때문에 입사광에 대해서 반사되는 광의 총량이 0에 가깝기 때문에 특정 반사 파장이 관찰되지 않았다.
실시예에 따른 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물, 이를 포함하는 반사형 컬러 변환모듈 및 이를 포함하는 가전기기는, 컬러 가변 속도를 높이고, 컬러 가변 범위를 넓히면서도 투명 전극의 흑화(darkening) 발생이 방지될 수 있는 기술적 효과가 있다.
예를 들어, 실시예에 의하면, 분산용매의 상대 유전율 제어를 통해, 컬러 가변 범위(Δλ)를 약 100nm 이상으로 넓히면서도 컬러 가변속도를 높일 수 있고, 또한 투명 전극의 흑화(darkening) 현상을 방지할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 실시예에 의하면 다양한 상대 유전율을 갖는 Benzene계 분산용매를 사용하여, 분산용매의 상대 유전율 제어를 통해 컬러 가변 범위를 넓히면서도 컬러 가변속도를 높일 수 있고, 또한 투명 전극의 흑화(darkening) 현상을 방지할 수 있다.
또한 예를 들어, 실시예에 의하면 이산화질소기(NO2) 또는 염소기 (Cl-) 등의 기능기를 포함하는 Benzene계 분산용매를 채용함에 따라, 기능기의 종류 및 기능기 수량을 Mono-, Di-, Tri-등으로 제어를 할 수 있다. 이에 따라 상대 유전율의 제어 가능한 Benzene계 분산용매 사용을 통해 컬러의 가변 범위, 동작 전압, 반사 스펙트럼의 반사율을 제어하는 것이 가능한 기술적 효과가 있다.
또한 실시예에 의하면, 분산용매의 굴절률을 제어하여 광결정 입자의 굴절률와의 상대적인 굴절률 차이를 제어함으로써 더욱 선명한 컬러 구현이 가능한 기술적 효과가 있다.
예를 들어, 실시예에 의하면 분산용매의 굴절률이 광결정 입자의 굴절률과의 차이가 0.1 이상 되도록 제어하여 더욱 선명한 컬러 구현이 가능한 기술적 효과가 있다.
예를 들어, 실시예에 의하면 이산화질소기(NO2) 또는 염소기 (Cl-) 등의 기능기를 포함하는 Benzene계 분산용매를 채용함에 따라 분산용매의 굴절률이 광결정 입자의 굴절률과의 차이가 0.1 이상 되도록 제어할 수 있고, 이를 통해 분산용매의 큰 굴절률은 입사광으로부터 광결정 입자의 공극 사이에서 반사되는 반사광의 전체 양을 증가시켜 더욱 높은 반사율을 갖게 하여 선명한 컬러 구현이 가능한 기술적 효과가 있다.
또한 실시예에 의하면 광결정 입자는 그 표면이 수산화기(OH-)를 구비함에 따라 광결정 입자에 대한 소수화 처리없이 전하 조절제 첨가로 우수한 컬러 특성을 갖는 광결정 잉크 조성물을 제공할 수 있는 기술적 효과가 있다.
또한 실시예에 의하면, 입사광의 난 반사로 인한 컬러 선명도가 저하되는 문제를 해결할 수 있는 효과가 있다.
예를 들어, 실시예에 의하면 광흡수 물질을 함께 첨가하는 것을 통해 난반사로 인한 백색 산란을 최소화하여 컬러 가변 모듈의 컬러의 선명도를 개선할 수 있다.
(제2 실시예)
다음으로 도 5는 제2 실시예에 따른 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물을 구비하는 전기영동 소자(120)의 개념도이다.
제2 실시예는 앞서 설명된 제1 실시예의 기술적 특징을 채용할 수 있으며, 이하 제2 실시예의 주된 특징을 중심으로 설명하기로 한다.
도 5를 참조하면, 제2 실시예에 따른 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물을 구비하는 전기영동 소자(120)는 복수의 광결정 잉크 조성물층을 포함할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 제2 실시예의 전기영동 소자(120)는 제1 광결정 잉크 조성물(117a)을 포함하는 제1 전기영동 소자층(110A)과 제2 광결정 잉크 조성물(127b)을 포함하는 제2 전기영동 소자층(120B)을 포함할 수 있다.
제1 전기영동 소자층(110A)은 제1 하부 전극(115a)과 제1 상부 전극(115b) 사이에 배치된 제1 광결정 잉크 조성물(117a)을 포함할 수 있다.
제2 전기영동 소자층(120B)은 제2 하부 전극(125a)과 제2 상부 전극(125b) 사이에 배치된 제2 광결정 잉크 조성물(127b)을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 제2 전기영동 소자층(120B)은 상기 제1 전기영동 소자층(110A) 상에 OCA, OCR 등의 투명 접착층(129)을 개재하여 배치될 수 있다.
상기 제1 전기영동 소자층(110A) 하측에는 투과된 파장의 빛의 반사를 방지하는 블랙 흡수판(111)이 배치될 수 있다.
상기 제1 상부 전극(115b), 상기 제2 하부 전극(125a) 및 상기 제2 상부 전극(125b)은 투광성 전극을 포함할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 제1 상부 전극(115b), 상기 제2 하부 전극(125a) 및 상기 제2 상부 전극(125b)은 ITO(indium tin oxide), IZO(indium zinc oxide), IZTO(indium zinc tin oxide), IAZO(indium aluminum zinc oxide), IGZO(indium gallium zinc oxide), IGTO(indium gallium tin oxide), AZO(aluminum zinc oxide), ATO(antimony tin oxide), GZO(gallium zinc oxide), IZON(IZO Nitride), AGZO(Al-Ga ZnO), IGZO(In-Ga ZnO) 중 적어도 하나를 포함하여 형성될 수 있으나 이에 한정되는 않는다.
이하 제2 실시예에 따른 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물 및 이를 포함하는 반사형 컬러 변환모듈의 제조 방법 및 그 기술적 특징에 대해 설명하기로 한다.
<제1 단계: 광결정 입자 전처리>
제2 실시예에 따른 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물의 광결정 입자의 전처리 기술은 제1 실시예의 광결정 입자의 전처리 기술을 채용할 수 있다.
한편, 실시예의 기술적 과제 중의 하나는 컬러에 대한 시야각 의존성을 낮추고자 함니다.
제2 실시예는 2종 이상의 광결정 입자를 혼합하여 혼합 광결정 입자를 구현할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 평균 입경이 차이가 있는 2종 이상의 광결정 입자를 일정 비율별로 혼합할 수 있으며, 2종 이상의 입경의 광결정 입자를 혼합하면, 컬러 가변 잉크는 광결정 구조(photonic crystal structure)에서 광자 유리 구조(photonic glass structure)를 가져서 입자간 거리 차이가 감소하며, 이에 따라 보는 바라보는 각도에 따라서 컬러가 달라지는 시야각 의존성을 해결할 수 있다.
구체적으로 제2 실시예는 광자 유리(photonic glass)가 갖는 입자의 비규칙 배열, 예를 들어, 준-아몰퍼스(quasi-amorphous) 구조에 의해 바라보는 각도에 따라서 컬러가 달라지는 시야각 의존성을 해결할 수 있다.
제2 실시예에서 혼합되는 광결정 입자의 입경은 180, 220, 300, 500nm 입자를 사용하였으며, 비교예는 기준 입자로 180nm 입경의 단분산된 실리카 광결정 입자를 사용하였다. 광결정 입자의 혼합 비율은 기존입자 대비 0wt% 초과 내지 100wt%까지 혼합하였다. 바람직하게 혼합되는 광결정 입자의 혼합비는 5wt% ~ 15wt%일 수 있으나 이에 한정된 것은 아니다.
<제2 단계: 분산용매, 전하조절제 혼합>
제2 실시예의 분산용매는 물(유전율: 80), 프로필렌 카보네이트(유전율: 64), 에틴렌 글리콜(유전율: 37), 메탄올(유전율: 32), 에탄올(유전율: 25), 벤젠계 분산용매(유전율: 2.24 내지 35.0), paraffin 오일계(유전율: 1~3) 등이 사용될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 제2 실시예의 분산용매는 제1 실시예의 Benzene계 분산용매가 채용될 수 있으나 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
<제3 단계: 광결정 입자 분산 및 잉크 조성물 제조>
제2 실시예에의 광결정 입자 분산 및 잉크 조성물 제조 기술은 제1 실시예의 특징을 채용할 수 있다.
한편, 실시예의 기술적 과제 중의 하나는 입사광의 난 반사로 인한 컬러 선명도가 저하되는 문제를 해결하고자 함이다.
제2 실시예는 광흡수 물질을 함께 첨가하여 난반사로 인한 백색 산란을 최소화함으로써 컬러 가변 모듈에서 컬러의 선명도를 개선할 수 있다.
제2 실시예에서 광흡수 물질은 카본블랙, 전도성 고분자, 산화철, 도파민, 멜라닌, 금속 나노입자 중 어느 하나 이상이 사용될 수 있다.
제2 실시예의 실험예에서는 광흡수 물질로 카본블랙을 단독으로 사용하였으나, 카본블랙을 포함한 2가지 이상의 광흡수물질을 혼합하여 사용하는 것도 가능하다.
제2 실시예에서 광흡수 물질의 첨가량은 광결정 입자의 함량 대비 0.01 ~ 5.0 wt%일 수 있으며, 바람직하게 0.01 ~ 1.0 wt% 범위일 수 있다.
상기 광흡수 물질의 첨가량이 0.01 wt% 미만이면 입사된 빛을 흡수하기 어려워 컬러 가변 특성을 나타낼 수 없으며, 광흡수 물질의 첨가량이 1.0 wt%를 초과하면 입사된 대부분의 빛을 흡수하기 때문에 반사되는 컬러를 확인하기 어렵다.
이에 따라 제2 실시예에 의하면, 광흡수 물질을 함께 첨가하는 것을 통해 난반사로 인한 백색 산란을 최소화하여 컬러 가변 모듈의 컬러의 선명도를 개선할 수 있다.
<제4 단계: 반사형 광결정 소자 제작>
제2 실시예에의 광결정 소자의 제작 기술은 제1 실시예의 특징을 채용할 수 있다.
한편, 실시예의 기술적 과제 중의 하나는 색 가변 범위가 좁은 영역을 가지게 되는 문제를 해결하고자 함이다.
제2 실시예는 복수의 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물층을 포함하는 컬러 가변 모듈를 구비함에 따라, CIE1931 색좌표 상에서 넓은 색영역을 갖는 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물, 이를 포함하는 반사형 컬러 변환모듈 및 이를 포함하는 가전기기를 제공할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 이중 층의 컬러 가변모듈은 컬러 혼합 구현이 가능하여 CIE1931 색영역 내의 모든 컬러 구현이 가능하다. 또한 보다 정밀한 컬러 제어가 필요한 경우, 서브 픽셀로 구동이 가능하다.
예를 들어, 도 5를 참조하면, 제2 실시예의 전기영동 소자(120)는 제1 광결정 잉크 조성물(117a)을 포함하는 제1 전기영동 소자층(110A)과 제2 광결정 잉크 조성물(127b)을 포함하는 제2 전기영동 소자층(120B)을 포함할 수 있다.
제1 전기영동 소자층(110A)은 제1 하부 전극(115a)과 제1 상부 전극(115b) 사이에 배치된 제1 광결정 잉크 조성물(117a)을 포함할 수 있다. 제2 전기영동 소자층(120B)은 제2 하부 전극(125a)과 제2 상부 전극(125b) 사이에 배치된 제2 광결정 잉크 조성물(127b)을 포함할 수 있다.
제2 실시예에서 하측에 배치되는 제1 광결정 잉크 조성물(117a)을 포함하는 제1 전기영동 소자층(110A)은, 컬러 가변이 가능하며, 시야각 특성이 개선되고 또한 컬러 선명도가 개선될 수 있다.
반면, 제2 실시예에서 상측에 배치되는 제2 광결정 잉크 조성물(127b)을 포함하는 제2 전기영동 소자층(120B)은, 컬러 가변이 가능하며, 시야각 특성이 개선될 수 있으나, 상측으로 반사광 출사를 위해 컬러 선명도가 개선기술이 적용되지 않을 수 있으나 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
<제5 단계: 컬러 특성 평가>
다음으로 밀봉이 완료된 반사형 광결정 소자는 분광 광도계 등을 사용하여 동작 전압별 외관 컬러 및 반사 스펙트럼이 분석될 수 있다.
이하 제2 실시예의 실험예와 비교예를 기초로 실시예의 기술적 특징을 보다 상세히 설명하기로 한다.
(1) 제2 실시예는 바라보는 각도에 따라서 컬러가 달라지는 시야각 의존성을 해결할 수 있는 기술적 효과가 있다.
예를 들어, 제2 실시예는 2종 이상의 광결정 입자를 혼합하여 혼합 광결정 입자를 구현할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 평균 입경이 차이가 있는 2종 이상의 광결정 입자를 일정 비율별로 혼합할 수 있으며, 2종 이상의 입경의 광결정 입자를 혼합하면, 컬러 가변 잉크는 광결정 구조에서 광자 유리(photonic glass) 구조를 가지며, 입자간 거리 차이가 감소하여 보는 바라보는 각도에 따라서 컬러가 달라지는 시야각 의존성을 해결할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 제2 실시예는 광자 유리(photonic glass)가 갖는 입자의 비규칙 배열, 예를 들어, 준 아몰퍼스(quasi-amorphous) 구조에 의해 바라보는 각도에 따라서 컬러가 달라지는 시야각 의존성을 해결할 수 있는 기술적 효과가 있다.
(2) 또한 제2 실시예는 시야각과 컬러 선명도가 동시에 개선된 컬러 가변 잉크를 제공할 수 있는 기술적 효과가 있다.
제2 실시예는 시야각과 컬러 선명도의 동시 개선을 위해 실리카 나노입자의 입경비를 1.67(300/180)로 고정 후 카본 블랙을 함량별로 사용시 반사율이 개선되는 것을 확인하였다.
제2 실시예는 광흡수 물질을 함께 첨가하는 것을 통해 난반사로 인한 백색 산란을 최소화하여, 컬러 가변 모듈에서 컬러의 선명도를 개선할 수 있다.
제2 실시예에서 광흡수 물질은 카본블랙, 전도성 고분자, 산화철, 도파민, 멜라닌, 금속 나노입자 중 어느 하나 이상이 사용될 수 있다.
제2 실시예의 실험예에서는 광흡수 물질로 카본블랙을 단독으로 사용하였으나, 카본블랙을 포함한 2가지 이상의 광흡수물질을 혼합하여 사용하는 것도 가능하다.
제2 실시예에서 광흡수 물질의 첨가량은 광결정 입자의 함량 대비 0.01 ~ 5.0 wt%일 수 있으며, 바람직하게 0.01 ~ 1.0 wt% 범위일 수 있다.
예를 들어, 컬러 선명도의 판별기준은 반치폭, 반사율, 반사율 차이값이 될 수 있으며, 반사 스펙트럼의 반치폭, 반사율 및 반사율 차이값(Mix-Min) 비교시 약 0.1wt%에서 컬러 선명도가 가장 우수하였다.
(3) 또한 제2 실시예는 CIE1931 색좌표 상에서 넓은 색영역을 갖는 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물, 이를 포함하는 반사형 컬러 변환모듈 및 이를 포함하는 가전기기를 제공할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 제2 실시예는 복수의 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물층을 포함하는 컬러 가변 모듈를 구비함에 따라, CIE1931 색좌표 상에서 넓은 색영역을 갖는 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물, 이를 포함하는 반사형 컬러 변환모듈 및 이를 포함하는 가전기기를 제공할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 이중 층의 컬러 가변모듈은 컬러 혼합 구현이 가능하여 CIE1931 색영역 내의 모든 컬러 구현이 가능하다. 또한 보다 정밀한 컬러 제어가 필요한 경우, 서브 픽셀로 구동이 가능하다.
예를 들어, 도 5를 참조하면, 제2 실시예의 전기영동 소자(120)는 제1 광결정 잉크 조성물(117a)을 포함하는 제1 전기영동 소자층(110A)과 제2 광결정 잉크 조성물(127b)을 포함하는 제2 전기영동 소자층(120B)을 포함할 수 있다.
제1 전기영동 소자층(110A)은 제1 하부 전극(115a)과 제1 상부 전극(115b) 사이에 배치된 제1 광결정 잉크 조성물(117a)을 포함할 수 있다. 제2 전기영동 소자층(120B)은 제2 하부 전극(125a)과 제2 상부 전극(125b) 사이에 배치된 제2 광결정 잉크 조성물(127b)을 포함할 수 있다.
제2 실시예에서 하측에 배치되는 제1 광결정 잉크 조성물(117a)을 포함하는 제1 전기영동 소자층(110A)은, 컬러 가변이 가능하며, 시야각 특성이 개선되고 또한 컬러 선명도가 개선될 수 있다.
반면, 제2 실시예에서 상측에 배치되는 제2 광결정 잉크 조성물(127b)을 포함하는 제2 전기영동 소자층(120B)은, 컬러 가변이 가능하며, 시야각 특성이 개선될 수 있으나, 상측으로 반사광 출사를 위해 컬러 선명도가 개선기술이 적용되지 않을 수 있으나 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
도 6은 제2 실시예에서 단일층의 광결정 잉크 조성물층을 구비하는 전기영동 소자의 색좌표이며, 광결정 기반 원색 가변 범위의 예를 나타낸다.
단일층 컬러 가변 모듈에서의 실제 색가변 범위(E1)는 이상적 가변 범위(ID) 대비 비교적 좁은 영역을 가진다.
광결정 모듈에서 입사되는 광에서 광결정에서 반사되는 반사광 이외에 광결정의 결점(defect)에서 생성되는 난반사로 인한 백색 산란을 최소화할 수 있다.
이 경우 실제 색 가변 범위(E1)에서 백색 산란을 억제하면 보다 넓은 컬러 가변 범위(E2)를 갖는 기술적 효과가 있다.
제2 실시예는 광흡수 물질을 함께 첨가하는 것을 통해 난반사로 인한 백색 산란을 최소화하여, 컬러 가변 모듈에서 컬러의 선명도를 개선할 수 있다.
제2 실시예에서 광흡수 물질은 카본블랙, 전도성 고분자, 산화철, 도파민, 멜라닌, 금속 나노입자 중 어느 하나 이상이 사용될 수 있다.
제2 실시예의 실험예에서는 광흡수 물질로 카본블랙을 단독으로 사용하였으나, 카본블랙을 포함한 2가지 이상의 광흡수물질을 혼합하여 사용하는 것도 가능하다.
제2 실시예에서 광흡수 물질의 첨가량은 광결정 입자의 함량 대비 0.01 ~ 5.0 wt%일 수 있으며, 바람직하게 0.01 ~ 1.0 wt% 범위일 수 있다.
다음으로 도 7은 제2 실시예에서 복수의 광결정 잉크 조성물층을 구비하는 전기영동 소자의 색좌표이며, 광결정 기반 혼합색 가변 범위의 나타낸 것이다.
예를 들어, 도 7은 2중층 구조를 갖는 컬러 가변 모듈에 대한 색표시 가능 영역을 나타낸 것이다.
제2 실시예는 복수의 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물층을 포함하는 컬러 가변 모듈를 구비함에 따라, CIE1931 색좌표 상에서 넓은 색영역(E3)을 갖는 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물, 이를 포함하는 반사형 컬러 변환모듈 및 이를 포함하는 가전기기를 제공할 수 있다.
예를 들어, 이중 층의 컬러 가변모듈은 컬러 혼합 구현이 가능하여 CIE1931 색영역 내의 모든 컬러 구현이 가능하다. 또한 보다 정밀한 컬러 제어가 필요한 경우, 서브 픽셀로 구동이 가능하다.
구체적으로 제2 실시예에 의하면 복수의 광결정 잉크 조성물층을 구비하는 전기영동 소자에서 백색산란이 최소화될 경우, 광결정 모듈의 컬러는 원색에 근접하게 되고, 가변 가능한 색영역은 NTSC 색영역과 거의 유사할 정도로 넓게 될 수 있다.
이에 따라 제2 실시예의 광결정 잉크 조성물의 가변범위는 430nm~670nm로 확대되고 반치폭을 매우 작게 만들 경우 컬러의 가변 범위는 더 넓어져서, CIE1931 색영역 내의 거의 모든 색영역의 컬러를 표현할 수 있다.
다음으로 도 8은 제2 비교예로서 종래 전자잉크를 이용한 컬러변환 모듈의 컬러 가변 범위(R2)의 색좌표를 나타낸 것이다.
종래 상용 전자잉크 모듈은 무기안료를 사용하기 때문에 7가지 정도의 컬러를 나타낼 수 있다. 컬러 단일층 구조에서 서브픽셀(RGB) 구조를 통해 보다 다양한 색을 구현할 수 있지만 광결정 모듈 대비 좁은 색 영역(R2)을 가지는 한계가 있다.
반면, 실시예에 의하면, 컬러에 대한 시야각 의존성을 낮출 수 있는 기술적 효과가 있다. 예를 들어, 실시예는 광자 유리(Photonic Glass)가 갖는 입자의 비규칙 배열, 예를 들어 quasi 아몰퍼스(amorphous) 구조에 의해 바라보는 각도에 따라서 컬러가 달라지는 시야각 의존성을 해결할 수 있다.
또한 실시예에 의하면, 입사광의 난 반사로 인한 컬러 선명도가 저하되는 문제를 해결할 수 있는 효과가 있다. 예를 들어, 실시예에 의하면 광흡수 물질을 함께 첨가하는 것을 통해 난반사 (백색 산란)을 최소화하여 컬러 가변 모듈의 컬러의 선명도를 개선할 수 있다.
또한 실시예에 의하면 색 가변 범위가 좁은 영역을 가지게 되는 문제를 해결할 수 있는 효과가 있다. 예를 들어, 실시예는 단일층 또는 복수층을 포함하는 컬러 가변 모듈를 구비함에 따라 CIE1931 색좌표 상에서 넓은 색영역을 갖는 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물, 이를 포함하는 반사형 컬러 변환모듈 및 이를 포함하는 가전기기를 제공할 수 있다.
또한 컬러 가변 모듈의 적층수 및 분할 면적이 증가할수록 더 넓은 색영역을 제공할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 단일층의 컬러 가변 모듈은 넓은 원색을 표현할 수 있으며, 이중층의 컬러 가변모듈은 컬러 혼합 구현이 가능하여 CIE1931 색영역 내의 모든 컬러 구현이 가능하다. 또한 보다 정밀한 컬러 제어가 필요한 경우, 서브 픽셀로 구동이 가능하다.
이상에서는 본 발명의 실시예를 참조하여 설명하였지만, 해당 기술 분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자라면 하기의 특허 청구의 범위에 기재된 본 발명의 사상 및 영역으로부터 벗어나지 않는 범위 내에서 본 발명을 다양하게 수정 및 변경시킬 수 있음을 쉽게 이해할 수 있을 것이다.
실시예는 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물이 이용되는 전기영동 소자, 디스플레이 장치, 가전기기 및 홈 인테리어 등에 이용될 수 있다.

Claims (13)

  1. 광결정 입자; 및
    상기 광결정 입자가 분산되는 분산용매를 포함하며,
    상기 분산용매의 굴절률과 상기 광결정 입자의 굴절률의 차이가 0.1 이상이며,
    상기 분산용매는 Benzene계 분산용매를 포함하며, 상기 분산용매의 유전율은 2.24 내지 35.0인, 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물.
  2. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 분산용매는,
    이산화질소기(NO2) 또는 염소기 (Cl-)의 기능기를 포함하는 Nitrobenzene, Dichlorobenzene, Chlorobenzene, Trichlorobenzene 중 적어도 하나 이상을 포함하는, 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물.
  3. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 분산용매는,
    이산화질소기(NO2) 또는 염소기 (Cl-)의 기능기를 포함하는 Nitrobenzene, Dichlorobenzene, Chlorobenzene, Trichlorobenzene 중 적어도 하나 두개 이상을 포함하는, 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물.
  4. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 분산용매의 굴절률은 1.52~1.57인, 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물.
  5. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 분산용매의 굴절률과 상기 광결정 입자의 굴절률의 차이는 0.1 내지 0.15인, 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물.
  6. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물의 컬러 가변 범위(Δλ)가 100nm 이상인, 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물.
  7. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 분산용매의 유전율은 4.0 내지 35.0인, 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물.
  8. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 분산용매의 유전율은 4.0 내지 8.0인, 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물.
  9. 제8항에 있어서,
    컬러 가변 범위가 118nm 내지 185nm인, 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물.
  10. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 분산용매는 플루오린(F), 브로민(Br), 아이오딘(I), 아스타틴(At), 테네신(Ts) 중 어느 하나 이상을 포함하는 할로겐 화합물을 포함하는, 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물.
  11. 제1항에 있어서,
    0.1 wt% 내지 20wt%의 전하조절제를 더 포함하는, 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물.
  12. 하부 전극, 상부 전극 및 상기 하부 전극과 상기 상부 전극 사이에 배치되는 제1항 내지 제11항 중 어느 하나의 반사형 광결정 잉크 조성물을 포함하는, 반사형 컬러 변환모듈.
  13. 제12항의 반사형 컬러 변환모듈을 구비하는 가전기기.
