Definitions
- the present invention relates to a stainless steel seamless pipe suitable for use as an injection pipe for transporting CO2 underground when CO2 is injected underground for underground sequestration.
- the present invention particularly relates to a stainless steel seamless pipe with improved resistance to hydrogen embrittlement in an environment containing hydrogen ( H2 ) and CO2 .
- CCS carbon capture and storage
- Stainless steel pipes are used to transport CO2 underground. This is because underground formation water containing chloride ions exists.
- CO2 dissolves in the formation water, acidifying it, creating a highly corrosive environment for steel pipes.
- high temperatures due to geothermal heat also increase the corrosiveness. Even in such high-temperature, acidic environments, corrosion is not a practical problem for stainless steel.
- H2 which does not emit CO2 when burned, is known as a clean energy source.
- hydrogen can also be produced by reforming fossil fuels. This method has low production costs, but produces CO2 as a by-product. By capturing this CO2 and isolating it underground, H2 can be produced without releasing CO2 into the atmosphere. H2 produced in this way is called blue hydrogen.
- CCS requires steel pipes to be airtight, and because the required characteristics and form are similar to those required when extracting oil and natural gas from underground, oil well steel pipes are used for CCS injection pipes. Since the injection pipes must be long enough to reach the geological formation where CO2 can be trapped, they are several thousand meters long. When a steel pipe of this length is suspended from the ground surface, its own weight is exerted on the wellhead. In this case, the injection pipe needs to be strong enough to withstand this weight, so high-strength stainless steel is suitable.
- UNS S42000 a martensitic stainless steel containing 13% by mass of Cr.
- UNS S41426 a martensitic stainless steel which contains 13% by mass of Cr, as well as 2% by mass of Mo and 5% by mass of Ni.
- Patent Document 1 also states that high strength and excellent hydrogen embrittlement resistance can be achieved by including, in mass percent, at least one of the following: C: 0.10% or less, Si: 1.0% or less, Mn: 3.0% or more but less than 7.0%, Cr: 15-30%, Ni: 12.0% or more but less than 17.0%, Al: 0.10% or less, N: 0.10-0.50%, P: 0.050% or less, S: 0.050% or less, V: 0.01-1.0%, and Nb: 0.01-0.50%.
- An object of the present invention is to solve the problems of the conventional art and to provide a stainless steel seamless pipe that combines high strength with a yield strength of 552 MPa (i.e., 80 ksi) or more, excellent CO2 corrosion resistance, and excellent hydrogen embrittlement resistance, and a method for manufacturing the same.
- the yield strength is the yield strength obtained in accordance with the API (American Petroleum Institute)-5CT standard.
- excellent CO2 corrosion resistance means that the corrosion rate obtained by immersing a test piece for 720 hours in a 20 mass % NaCl aqueous solution (liquid temperature of the aqueous solution: 100°C) in contact with 1 MPa CO2 - 0.04 MPa H2 gas (gas containing 1 MPa CO2 and 0.04 MPa H2 ) in an autoclave, removing the corrosion products from the test piece after the test, and determining the corrosion rate by the weight loss method is 0.10 mm/y or less.
- excellent hydrogen embrittlement resistance means that a test piece conforming to NACE TM0177 (2016) Method D is exposed to 1 MPa CO 2 -0.04 MPa H 2 gas in an autoclave for 720 hours, and the resulting test piece has a fracture toughness value of 30 MPa ⁇ m 1/2 or more.
- the inventors conducted extensive research into the structure of stainless steel, particularly its effect on hydrogen embrittlement resistance. As a result, they discovered that refining the structure improves hydrogen embrittlement resistance, and that the desired hydrogen embrittlement resistance can be achieved without the use of expensive additive elements. In particular, they found that even if the average grain size, as is commonly evaluated in the past, is small, the presence of a small number of coarse crystal grains will result in low hydrogen embrittlement resistance in that area, and this characteristic will have a significant impact on the hydrogen embrittlement resistance of the entire material, so it is important to reduce the maximum grain size.
- the average grain size of prior austenite grains determined by measuring and analyzing the crystal orientation of the structure at the center of the wall thickness on a surface perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the steel pipe using EBSD, is controlled to 50 ⁇ m or less. Furthermore, the maximum grain size of these prior austenite grains is controlled to 100 ⁇ m or less. It has been discovered that these controls provide the steel pipe with excellent hydrogen embrittlement resistance.
- the average grain size of prior austenite grains is measured by EBSD at a single arbitrary position on the microstructure observation surface, over an area of 300 ⁇ m in the circumferential direction of the steel pipe and 500 ⁇ m in the wall thickness direction (actual size) at 1 ⁇ m intervals.
- three 500 ⁇ m line segments are drawn in the wall thickness direction of the steel pipe at 50 ⁇ m intervals, i.e., three line segments spanning the entire length of the EBSD measurement range in the wall thickness direction.
- the number of intersections between each 500 ⁇ m line segment and the prior austenite grain boundaries is then counted, and 1.5 ⁇ (500 ⁇ number of intersections) is calculated.
- the average of the values of 1.5 ⁇ (500 ⁇ number of intersections) for each of the three line segments is taken as the average grain size of the prior austenite grains.
- the maximum grain size of the prior austenite grains in the present invention refers to the value obtained by multiplying the actual size of the point with the widest distance between the intersections of three line segments, each having an actual size of 500 ⁇ m, used to measure the average grain size described above by 1.5, calculated using a scale bar.
- One method for manufacturing seamless steel pipes is the Mannesmann pipe-making process, in which a cylindrical material called a round billet is pierced by externally rotating and compressing it, making use of the characteristic that the central part becomes brittle. More specifically, the round billet first comes into contact with rolls, which deform it by rotary compression. The round billet then comes into contact with a piercing tool to be pierced. The pierced material then undergoes forming and rolling and heat treatment to become a steel pipe product.

- Sb is an element that improves corrosion resistance and can be contained as needed. However, even if the Sb content exceeds 1.0%, the effect saturates and no effect commensurate with the content can be expected. Therefore, when Sb is contained, the Sb content is set to 1.0% or less.
- the Sb content is preferably 0.001% or more, more preferably 0.01% or more, and even more preferably 0.05% or more, more preferably 0.3% or more, and even more preferably 0.5% or more.
- Zn 0.1% or less
- Zn is an impurity that reduces hot workability, so if Zn is contained, the Zn content is set to 0.1% or less.
- the Zn content is preferably 0.0005% or more, more preferably 0.001% or more, more preferably 0.003% or more, and even more preferably 0.005% or more.
- Pb 0.1% or less
- Pb is an impurity that reduces hot workability, so if Pb is contained, the Pb content is set to 0.1% or less.
- the Pb content is preferably 0.0005% or more, more preferably 0.001% or more, even more preferably 0.01% or more, and even more preferably 0.03% or more.
- As 0.1% or less As is an impurity that reduces hot workability, so if As is contained, the As content is set to 0.1% or less. Since the As content is preferably as small as possible, no lower limit is set, but the As content is preferably 0.0005% or more, more preferably 0.001% or more, even more preferably 0.01% or more, and still more preferably 0.03% or more.
- Bi 0.1% or less Bi is an impurity that reduces hot workability, so if Bi is contained, the Bi content is set to 0.1% or less. Although there is no particular lower limit for Bi, the Bi content is preferably 0.0005% or more, more preferably 0.001% or more, even more preferably 0.01% or more, and even more preferably 0.03% or more.
- the structure of a stainless steel seamless pipe according to one embodiment of the present invention is, in volume fraction, 70% or more of a martensite phase, 20% or less of a retained austenite phase, and 10% or less of a ferrite phase, and the average grain size of prior austenite determined using EBSD (Electron Beam Scanning Disk Dispersion) described below is 50 ⁇ m or less, and the maximum grain size of prior austenite is 100 ⁇ m or less.
- EBSD Electro Beam Scanning Disk Dispersion
- the structure of the stainless steel seamless pipe may be composed of, by volume, 70% or more of a martensite phase, 20% or less of a retained austenite phase, and 10% or less of a ferrite phase, and the average grain size of the prior austenite determined using EBSD described below may be 50 ⁇ m or less, and the maximum grain size of the prior austenite may be 100 ⁇ m or less.
- Martensite phase 70% or more by volume If the volume fraction of the martensite phase is less than 70%, the desired strength cannot be ensured. Therefore, the volume fraction of the martensite phase is set to 70% or more.
- the volume fraction of the martensite phase is preferably 75% or more, more preferably 80% or more, and even more preferably 85% or more.
- the volume fraction of the martensite phase is preferably 99.8% or less, more preferably 99.5% or less, preferably 98% or less, more preferably 97.8% or less, even more preferably 97.5% or less, and even more preferably 97% or less, preferably 96.8% or less, more preferably 96.5% or less.
- Retained austenite phase 20% or less by volume
- the presence of retained austenite phase is not essential, but some austenite that has not been completely transformed into martensite may remain in the steel as retained austenite. If a large amount of retained austenite phase, exceeding 20% by volume, is present, the desired hydrogen embrittlement resistance may not be ensured. Furthermore, if the volume fraction of the retained austenite phase exceeds 20%, the desired strength cannot be obtained. For this reason, the volume fraction of the retained austenite phase is set to 20% or less.
- the volume fraction of the retained austenite phase is preferably 15% or less, and more preferably 10% or less.
- the volume fraction of the retained austenite phase is preferably 2% or more, and more preferably 3% or more.
- ferrite phase 10% or less by volume
- the presence of a ferrite phase is not essential, but some of the ferrite phase may not be completely transformed into austenite or martensite during heat treatment of the steel, and may remain in the steel as a ferrite phase. Because the ferrite phase contains more Cr, the Cr concentration in the martensite or austenite phase surrounding the ferrite phase decreases, resulting in reduced corrosion resistance. Therefore, the volume fraction of the ferrite phase is set to 10% or less.
- the volume fraction of the ferrite phase is preferably set to 7% or less, more preferably 5% or less, and even more preferably 3% or less.
- the volume fraction of the ferrite phase is preferably 0.2% or more, and more preferably 0.5% or more.
- the volume fraction of each phase can be measured by the following method.
- a specimen for microstructure observation was prepared by cutting a piece of stainless steel seamless pipe from a surface perpendicular to the longitudinal direction (pipe axis direction) of the pipe, embedding the piece in resin, and mirror-polishing the piece.
- This observation surface was then subjected to electrolytic corrosion in a KOH solution (i.e., a mixture of 35 g of KOH and 100 g of pure water) at a current density of 3 A/cm2 for 35 seconds, followed by corrosion in a Villela reagent (i.e., a mixture of 2 g of picric acid, 5 ml of hydrochloric acid, and 50 ml of ethanol) for 30 seconds.
- a KOH solution i.e., a mixture of 35 g of KOH and 100 g of pure water
- a Villela reagent i.e., a mixture of 2 g of picric acid, 5 ml of hydrochloric acid
- the structure of the specimen for microstructure observation was then imaged at 400x magnification using an optical microscope.
- An image of a range of 300 ⁇ m in the circumferential direction of the steel pipe and 200 ⁇ m in the wall thickness direction of the steel pipe was cut out from any point on the obtained optical microscope photograph, and analyzed using image analysis software (ImageJ 1.52p, National Institute of Health) to calculate the structure fraction (area fraction (%)) of the ferrite phase.
- image analysis software ImageJ 1.52p, National Institute of Health
- the Weka Trainable Segmentation function was used on the optical microscope photograph to extract the ferrite phase by using three bright ferrite areas and three dark martensite areas as training data, and automatically classifying other areas using the Segmentation function.
- the area fraction of the ferrite phase extracted in this way is defined as the volume fraction (%) of the ferrite phase.
- a test piece for X-ray diffraction taken from the stainless steel seamless pipe is ground and polished so that a cross section perpendicular to the pipe axis direction (i.e., C cross section) serves as the measurement surface, and the structural fraction of the retained austenite ( ⁇ ) phase is measured using X-ray diffraction.
- the remainder other than the ferrite phase and retained austenite phase determined by the above measurement method is taken as the martensite phase fraction.
- the stainless steel seamless pipe of the present invention has a structure in which the average grain size of prior austenite is 50 ⁇ m or less and the maximum grain size is 100 ⁇ m or less.
- the grain size of prior austenite is determined using the following method. First, a grain size measurement specimen taken from a stainless steel seamless pipe is ground and polished so that a cross section perpendicular to the pipe axis (i.e., C-section) serves as the measurement surface. The crystal orientation of the martensite phase is then measured using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). EBSD measurements are performed at a single point of your choice on the microstructural observation surface, at 1 ⁇ m intervals, over an area measuring 300 ⁇ m circumferentially and 500 ⁇ m in the wall thickness direction of the steel pipe.
- EBSD electron backscatter diffraction
- the martensite phase has a crystal structure close to a body-centered cubic (BCC) lattice, it cannot be distinguished from the ferrite phase, which also has a body-centered cubic structure.
- BCC body-centered cubic
- EBSD can provide information about the crystal orientation of the martensite phase.
- martensite is austenite transformed during heat treatment, and there is a specific relationship between the crystal orientations of martensite and austenite. Therefore, by back-analyzing the orientation relationship from the crystal orientation of the martensite phase, it is possible to construct information about the crystal orientation of the austenite (prior austenite) before transformation at each position.
- the average grain size is calculated using the intercept method from the image showing the grain boundaries after the inverse analysis.
- three line segments each 500 ⁇ m in actual size, are drawn in the thickness direction of the steel pipe, i.e., three line segments spanning the entire length of the EBSD measurement range in the thickness direction, at 50 ⁇ m intervals, and the number of intersections between each 500 ⁇ m line segment and the prior austenite grain boundaries is counted to determine 1.5 ⁇ (500 ⁇ number of intersections).
- the average of the values of 1.5 ⁇ (500 ⁇ number of intersections) for each of the three line segments is then defined as the average grain size of the prior austenite.
- the maximum grain size of the prior austenite grains is determined by using a scale bar to calculate the actual size of the point with the widest spacing between the intersections of the three 500 ⁇ m line segments used to measure the average grain size, and multiplying this actual size by 1.5.
- the desired hydrogen embrittlement resistance can be achieved by setting the average grain size to 50 ⁇ m or less and the maximum grain size to 100 ⁇ m or less. This is thought to be because the refined structure suppresses the occurrence of intergranular cracking, which occurs at the grain boundaries, making the material less susceptible to breakdown even in a hydrogen environment. In this regard, even if the average grain size generally evaluated in the past is small, if there are a small number of coarse crystal grains, the hydrogen embrittlement resistance of that part will be low, and this characteristic will have a significant impact on the hydrogen embrittlement resistance of the entire material, so it is thought to be particularly important to reduce the maximum grain size.
- the average grain size of this prior austenite be 50 ⁇ m or less and the maximum grain size be 100 ⁇ m or less.
- the maximum grain size of the prior austenite is preferably 90 ⁇ m or less, more preferably 80 ⁇ m or less, and further preferably 70 ⁇ m or less.
- the average grain size of the prior austenite is preferably 1 ⁇ m or more.
- the average grain size of the prior austenite is more preferably 3 ⁇ m or more.
- the average grain size of the prior austenite is further preferably 10 ⁇ m or more, and even more preferably 20 ⁇ m or more.
- the maximum grain size of the prior austenite is preferably 10 ⁇ m or more, more preferably 15 ⁇ m or more, even more preferably 20 ⁇ m or more, and even more preferably 40 ⁇ m or more.
- yield strength 552 MPa or more
- the stainless steel seamless pipe of the present invention has a yield strength of 552 MPa or more. There is no particular upper limit to the yield strength, but it is preferably 655 MPa or less. The yield strength can be measured by the method described in the examples.
- the stainless steel seamless pipe of the present invention can be used for any purpose without any particular limitation.

- the stainless steel seamless pipe of the present invention can be manufactured by forming a seamless steel pipe from steel material (round billet) and then subjecting the seamless steel pipe to quenching and tempering treatments under specific conditions.
- a round billet is used as the steel material, and the steel material has the above-mentioned chemical composition.
- the manufacturing method for the above-mentioned steel material is not particularly limited, and any method can be used.

- a melting method such as a converter
- steel scrap heated and melted in an electric furnace can be used to produce the molten steel.
- the round billet can be directly produced by casting it into a cylindrical shape.
- the obtained steel material (round billet) is then formed into a seamless steel pipe.
- the pipe formation is performed by hot working. Specifically, in the hot working, the steel material is heated, and the heated steel material is formed into a mother pipe (i.e., a hollow mother pipe) using a piercing machine. The mother pipe is then rolled, such as by forming, to produce a seamless steel pipe of the desired dimensions.
- the method for hot working the steel material to produce a seamless steel pipe is not particularly limited, and any method can be used.
- a seamless steel pipe can be obtained using either the Mannesmann plug mill method or the Mannesmann mandrel mill method.
- the heating temperature in this hot working is not particularly limited, but is preferably 1100 to 1350°C from the viewpoint of achieving both high levels of hot workability during pipe formation and low-temperature toughness of the final product. After the heating, piercing is performed to drill holes in the steel material.
- temperatures refer to the surface temperature of the steel pipe (seamless steel pipe after pipe making) unless otherwise specified. These surface temperatures can be measured using a radiation thermometer, etc.
- a seamless steel pipe is obtained by piercing a round billet in the piercing step.
- a seamless steel pipe is obtained by compressing the round billet and piercing it with a piercing tool under conditions that satisfy the following formula (1): 1.01 ⁇ Db/Dr ⁇ 1.10...Formula (1)
- Db outer diameter (mm) of the round billet before compression as viewed in a cross section perpendicular to the billet axial direction (hereinafter also referred to as initial diameter)
- Dr outer diameter (mm) of the round billet after compression and before contact with the piercing tool, as viewed in a cross section perpendicular to the billet axial direction (hereinafter also referred to as billet diameter); is.
- the conditions of the piercing process are controlled so that Db/Dr, which is the ratio of the initial diameter (Db) of the round billet to the diameter (Dr) of the billet before it is compressed and contacts the piercing tool, is 1.01 to 1.10.
- Db/Dr the ratio of the initial diameter (Db) of the round billet to the diameter (Dr) of the billet before it is compressed and contacts the piercing tool
- the compression can be performed by means of rolls, which come into contact with the round billet and cause it to rotate and move forward.
- the shape etc. of the piercing tool is not particularly limited as long as it can pierce a round billet and control the inside diameter of the seamless steel pipe after piercing.
- the value of Db/Dr should be 1.01 or greater, preferably 1.02 or greater, more preferably 1.03 or greater, and even more preferably 1.04 or greater.

- the value of Db/Dr should be 1.10 or less.
- the value of Db/Dr should preferably be 1.09 or less, more preferably 1.08 or less, and even more preferably 1.07 or less.
- a cooling treatment may be carried out after the pipe is made.
- the cooling treatment can be carried out under any conditions without any particular restrictions.
- the cooling treatment is preferably carried out at an average cooling rate faster than air cooling until the surface temperature of the steel pipe reaches room temperature.
- An average cooling rate faster than air cooling means 0.01°C/second or faster.
- a seamless steel pipe is heated to a quenching temperature of 850 to 1150°C, and then the heated seamless steel pipe is cooled from the quenching temperature to a steel plate surface temperature of 300°C at an average cooling rate of 0.01°C/second or more.
- Quenching temperature 850 to 1150°C If the heating temperature in the quenching treatment (i.e., the quenching temperature) is less than 850°C, reverse transformation from martensite to austenite does not occur, and transformation from austenite to martensite does not occur during cooling, resulting in the failure to ensure the desired strength. Therefore, the quenching temperature is set to 850°C or higher, and preferably 900°C or higher. On the other hand, if the quenching temperature is higher than 1150°C, the ferrite fraction becomes too high, resulting in a decrease in corrosion resistance. Therefore, the quenching temperature is set to 1150°C or lower, and preferably to 1100°C or lower.
- the seamless steel pipe may be heated to the above-mentioned quenching temperature, and then subjected to a soaking treatment in which it is maintained at that temperature.
- a soaking treatment in which it is maintained at that temperature.
- the time for which it is maintained at the quenching temperature is not particularly limited, but is preferably 3 minutes or more, and more preferably 5 minutes or more.
- a longer soaking time may increase the prior austenite grain size and result in a decrease in fracture toughness, so it is preferably 30 minutes or less, more preferably 20 minutes or less, and even more preferably 15 minutes or less.
- Average cooling rate 0.01°C/second or more
- the average cooling rate from the quenching temperature to 300°C is set to 0.01°C/second or more.
- the average cooling rate from the quenching temperature to 300°C is preferably 1.0°C/second or more, more preferably 5.0°C/second or more, and even more preferably 10.0°C/second or more.
- the average cooling rate is preferably 80° C./sec or less, and more preferably 40° C./sec or less.
- the cooling method is not particularly limited and can be performed by any method.
- the cooling method is preferably at least one of air cooling and water cooling, and more preferably water cooling.
- the average cooling rate (°C/sec) is the value obtained by subtracting 300 (°C) from the above-mentioned quenching temperature (cooling start temperature) (°C) and dividing the result by the cooling time (seconds) from the cooling start temperature to 300°C.
- the average cooling rate (°C/sec) is obtained by (quenching temperature - 300) (°C) / cooling time (seconds) from the quenching temperature to 300°C.
- the average cooling rate in the present invention is defined as above.
- Cooling stop temperature 300°C or less
- the average cooling rate from the quenching temperature to 300°C is set to 0.01°C/second or more, so the cooling stop temperature in the quenching process is essentially 300°C or less. If the cooling stop temperature is higher than 300°C, the desired structure cannot be obtained. If the cooling stop temperature is too high, the transformation from austenite to martensite does not occur sufficiently, and the fraction of retained austenite becomes excessive. Therefore, the cooling stop temperature in the above-mentioned quenching treatment is set to 300°C or lower.
- the cooling stop temperature is preferably 200°C or lower, more preferably 100°C or lower, and even more preferably 50°C or lower.
- the lower limit of the cooling stop temperature is not particularly limited, but the cooling stop temperature is preferably 0°C or higher, more preferably 3°C or higher, and even more preferably 5°C or higher.
- the cooling stop temperature is the surface temperature of the seamless steel pipe.
- Tempering temperature 600-800°C If the tempering temperature is less than 600°C, a sufficient tempering effect cannot be obtained, resulting in a deterioration of low-temperature toughness. Therefore, the tempering temperature is set to 600°C or higher, and preferably 620°C or higher. On the other hand, if the tempering temperature is higher than 800°C, the tempering effect per unit time becomes large, and the risk of insufficient strength due to variations in heating time in actual operation increases, which is an industrial disadvantage. Therefore, the tempering temperature is set to 800°C or less. The tempering temperature is preferably set to 750°C or less.
- the seamless steel pipe can be heated to the above tempering temperature and then held at that tempering temperature.
- the holding time may be controlled from the perspective of uniforming the temperature in the thickness direction and preventing material variations.
- the holding time is preferably 5 minutes or more.
- the holding time is more preferably 10 minutes or more, and even more preferably 15 minutes or more.
- the holding time is preferably 90 minutes or less.
- the holding time is more preferably 60 minutes or less, and even more preferably 40 minutes or less.
- the product can be air-cooled (naturally cooled).
- the stainless steel seamless pipe of the present invention can also have excellent low-temperature toughness.
- the stainless steel seamless pipe of the present invention obtained as described above may have an outer diameter (diameter) of 30 mm or more, although there are no particular limitations on this.
- the outer diameter (diameter) may also be 600 mm or less.
- the stainless steel seamless pipe of the present invention may have a thickness (thickness) of 3 mm or more, although there are no particular limitations on this.
- the thickness may also be 30 mm or less.
- a seamless steel pipe was manufactured from a steel material having the chemical composition shown in Table 1 using the following procedure.
- a steel material was cast using molten steel having the chemical composition shown in Table 1.
- the steel material was then heated and hot-worked using a model seamless rolling mill to form a seamless steel pipe with an outer diameter of 177.8 mm and a wall thickness of 16.0 mm, which was then air-cooled.
- the heating temperature of the steel material before hot-working was 1250°C.
- the ratio Db/Dr which is the ratio of the initial diameter (Db) of the round billet to the billet diameter (Dr), was the value shown in Table 2.
- the resulting seamless steel pipe was then subjected to quenching and tempering under the following conditions to obtain a stainless steel seamless steel pipe.
- the obtained seamless steel pipes were subjected to quenching treatment under the conditions shown in Table 2. Specifically, the seamless steel pipes were heated to the quenching temperature shown in Table 2 and held at the quenching temperature for the soaking time shown in Table 2. Then, they were cooled by water cooling or air cooling. In Table 2, No. 23 was cooled by air cooling, and the others were cooled by water cooling. During the cooling, the cooling rate was measured using a thermocouple attached to the end of the tube. The average cooling rate from the time the tube was removed from the heating furnace until it reached 300°C is shown in Table 2. That is, the average cooling rate shown in Table 2 was calculated by dividing the cooling time (seconds) from the quenching temperature to 300°C by (quenching temperature - 300) (°C).
- Test pieces were taken from the obtained stainless steel seamless pipes and subjected to the following methods: (1) microstructural observation, (2) tensile test, (3) CO2 corrosion test, and (4) hydrogen embrittlement resistance evaluation test.
- Test pieces measuring 3 mm thick x 25 mm wide x 50 mm long were machined from the resulting stainless steel seamless pipes and subjected to a CO2 corrosion test.
- the CO2 corrosion test was performed by immersing the test pieces in a 20% by mass NaCl aqueous solution (liquid temperature: 100°C, 1 MPa CO2 -0.04 MPa H2 gas atmosphere (gas atmosphere containing 1 MPa CO2 and 0.04 MPa H2 )) held in an autoclave for 30 days (i.e., 720 hours).
- the corrosion products on the test pieces were removed and the corrosion rate was determined by the weight loss method.
- a corrosion rate of 0.10 mm/y or less was judged to be acceptable, and a corrosion rate exceeding this value was judged to be unacceptable.
- the stainless steel seamless pipe of the present invention can be used extremely suitably as a steel pipe for transporting hydrogen underground for temporary underground storage of the hydrogen contained together with CO2 , in addition to being used as a steel pipe for CO2 injection for CCS (Concentrated Storage and Storage) that sequesters CO2 underground.
