Definitions
- the present invention relates to a surface protection film.
- a surface protective film is generally applied to the exposed surfaces of the optical and electronic components to prevent the surfaces of the optical and electronic components from being scratched during processing, assembly, inspection, transportation, etc.
- Such a surface protective film is peeled off from the optical and electronic components when surface protection is no longer necessary (Patent Document 1).
- Surface protection films attached to the exposed surfaces of such optical or electronic components are required to exhibit sufficiently strong adhesive strength so as not to peel off easily while surface protection is necessary.
- excellent easy removability is required so that the surface protection film can be peeled off smoothly from the optical or electronic component without causing contamination or damage.
- a balance is required between sufficiently strong adhesive strength while surface protection is necessary and excellent easy removability once surface protection is no longer necessary.
- Patent Document 2 As a technology for adjusting adhesive strength, a surface protection sheet for optical components whose adhesive strength decreases when irradiated with ultraviolet light has been reported (Patent Document 2). Also, a surface protection sheet for optical components whose adhesive strength is decreased by irradiating with ultraviolet light, thereby exhibiting easy peelability, has been reported (Patent Document 3).
- the adhesive reported in Patent Document 2 does not have a sufficiently high adhesive strength before ultraviolet light irradiation, nor does it have a sufficiently low adhesive strength after ultraviolet light irradiation.
- Patent Document 3 does not have a sufficiently low adhesive strength. For this reason, it is not possible to achieve both sufficiently strong adhesive strength while surface protection is necessary and excellent easy peelability when surface protection is no longer necessary.

- the surface elasticity modulus of the adhesive layer contained in the surface protection film in an environment of a temperature of 23°C and a humidity of 55% RH (sometimes referred to as the "surface elasticity modulus before UV irradiation") is preferably 0.100 MPa or less, or may be 0.090 MPa or less, 0.080 MPa or less, 0.070 MPa or less, 0.060 MPa or less, or 0.050 MPa or less.
- the lower the surface elasticity modulus the better, but if it is too low, the surface of the adhesive before UV irradiation becomes too soft, which may result in poor releasability of the release liner before UV irradiation, for example.
- the lower limit is preferably, for example, 0.020 MPa or more, may be 0.028 MPa or more, 0.030 MPa or more, 0.032 MPa or more, 0.034 MPa or more, 0.036 MPa or more, or 0.038 MPa or more. If the surface elasticity modulus is within the above range, the effects of the present invention can be more effectively achieved. If the surface elasticity modulus is too high outside the above range, for example, the surface of the adhesive before UV irradiation becomes too hard, and for example, the step-following ability before UV irradiation may be poor, or sufficient strong adhesive strength may not be exerted against the adherend before UV irradiation.

- the gel fraction before UV irradiation is within the above range, the surface of the adhesive before UV irradiation is appropriately soft, and the effects of the present invention can be more effectively exhibited, for example, a sufficiently strong adhesive force can be exhibited against the adherend before ultraviolet irradiation. If the gel fraction before UV irradiation is too large outside the above range, the surface of the adhesive before UV irradiation becomes too hard, and for example, the step-following ability before UV irradiation may be poor, or sufficient adhesive strength may not be exerted on the adherend before UV irradiation. If the gel fraction before UV irradiation is too small outside the above range, the surface of the adhesive before UV irradiation becomes too soft, and for example, the releasability of the release liner before UV irradiation may be poor.

If the gel fraction after UV irradiation is too small outside the above range, the surface of the pressure-sensitive adhesive after UV irradiation becomes too soft, and there is a risk that excellent easy releasability that allows smooth peeling from the adherend after UV irradiation cannot be achieved. If the gel fraction after UV irradiation is too large outside the above range, there is a risk that cure shrinkage due to UV irradiation will be large.

If the initial adhesive strength to the glass plate before UV irradiation is too low outside the above range, for example, there is a risk that the step-following ability before UV irradiation will be poor, or that the surface protection film will peel off from the adherend while surface protection is required. Details of the method for measuring the initial adhesive strength to the glass plate before UV irradiation will be described later.

If the rate of change is within the above range, for example, the effects of the present invention can be more effectively achieved, a sufficiently strong adhesive strength can be exerted to the adherend, and when it is necessary to peel the adhesive from the adherend, excellent easy peelability can be exerted, allowing the adhesive to be peeled from the adherend more smoothly.
