Definitions
- the present invention relates to the technical field of organic semiconductors, and in particular to a fullerene single crystal film and a preparation method and application thereof.
- fullerene As a star material in the field of optoelectronics, fullerene has broad application prospects in many fields of organic electronics, such as organic solar cells, organic field effect transistors, organic light-emitting diodes, organic photodetectors, etc. So far, these applications of fullerene have been verified in the laboratory stage. However, fullerene has not yet been industrialized in the field of optoelectronics. This is mainly because the current method for preparing fullerene films is usually evaporation. The evaporation method requires high temperature (>400°C), high vacuum and harsh conditions and requires expensive equipment (ACS Nano 2013, 7, 10, 9122-9128).
- fullerene film obtained by evaporation has a higher defect state density than the fullerene crystal, which has an adverse effect on its optoelectronic properties such as electron mobility and exciton diffusion distance.
- fullerene crystals by low-cost solution method.
- fullerene is more difficult to control its crystallization process due to its unique zero-dimensional configuration. This is mainly manifested in the following two points: on the one hand, the contact area between fullerene molecules is much smaller than that of planar molecules, resulting in a weaker driving force for crystallization; on the other hand, due to the zero-dimensional characteristics of fullerene molecules, it is easy to rotate and has no advantageous orientation.
- Traditional methods for preparing fullerene crystals include liquid-liquid interface precipitation method (Small 2018, 14, 11, e1703624.), supramolecular gel crystallization method (Adv. Sci.
- liquid-liquid interface precipitation method which uses the slow mixing of solvents at the interface of fullerene's good solvent and poor solvent to make fullerene supersaturated at the interface, thereby promoting the nucleation and growth of crystals.
- this method has received extensive attention and research, it has some serious defects, such as the uncontrollable nucleation and growth process of the crystal, which leads to poor experimental repeatability and chaotic size distribution of fullerene crystals.
- the liquid-liquid interface precipitation method is a non-in-situ growth process, which requires a complex transfer process for optoelectronic applications of the crystal. The transfer process inevitably damages the crystal and makes the miniaturization and integration of the device difficult.
- Hexagonal crystals can be obtained in pseudo-three-dimensional solvents such as carbon tetrachloride, while one-dimensional needle-shaped crystals are obtained in pseudo-two-dimensional benzene solvents substituted at the meta position. Therefore, for the preparation of fullerene single crystal thin films by the solution method, the selection and regulation of the solvent are crucial. In order to obtain a fullerene single crystal thin film with high coverage and good orientation, it is very advantageous to control the morphology of the fullerene crystal into a strip shape through solvent engineering.
- fullerene film is a large-area single crystal film prepared in situ by a solution method, with high coverage, uniform orientation, high uniformity and continuous preparation.
- the existing technology cannot prepare the above-mentioned ideal fullerene single crystal film.
- fullerene crystal films are greatly dependent on the choice of solvents. How to use solvent engineering to obtain fullerene single crystal films with good orientation and high coverage as much as possible is still a mystery. Therefore, the in-situ preparation of ideal large-area fullerene single crystal films by a solution method is still a huge technical problem, and it is also a prerequisite for the integration and industrialization of fullerene optoelectronic devices.

- the fullerene film prepared by the prior art has the disadvantages of low crystallinity, small area, disordered orientation, low coverage, poor uniformity, etc. After extensive research, it was found that the solution shearing method can make fullerene grow on the substrate surface. Through the regulation of solvent engineering and crystal nucleation growth behavior at the air-solution-substrate three-phase line, a high-quality large-area fullerene single crystal film was successfully prepared, which has high coverage, uniform orientation, high crystallinity, and good uniformity.
- the fullerene single crystal film of the present invention meets the application requirements of fullerene materials in the optoelectronic field, and can be applied to the fields of organic field effect transistors, organic solar cells, organic circuits, etc.
- the first aspect of the present invention protects a method for preparing a fullerene single crystal thin film using a gas-liquid-solid three-phase interface, comprising the following steps:
- the method of the present invention does not require additional fixtures or photoresist arrays to assist crystallization.
- the evaporation of the solvent at the triple phase line promotes crystal nucleation and the continuous movement of the triple phase line promotes the continuous growth of oriented fullerene crystals, thereby obtaining a large-area fullerene single crystal film with high coverage and scalable preparation.
- the fullerene is selected from one or more of C60, C70, C76, C78, C80 and C84. Preferably, it is C60 or C70.

- the solvent can be a single solvent, such as 2-chlorothiophene, 2-chloro-3-methylthiophene, 2-methoxythiophene, 3-methylthiophene, 2-ethylthiophene and o-xylene.
- Fullerene crystals are very easy to couple with solvent molecules inside the crystals to form solvated crystals. Therefore, fullerene crystals often present different morphologies in different solvents. For example, C60 fullerene usually presents needle-shaped crystals in the solvent meta-xylene, and usually presents hexagonal crystals in the solvent carbon tetrachloride.
- the present invention selects solvents that can obtain ribbon crystals with good orientation and high coverage as much as possible.
- a second solvent can be added to regulate the crystal morphology.
- C60 fullerene crystals present hexagonal crystals with no orientation, discontinuity and low coverage in carbon tetrachloride.

- the solvent evaporates too quickly, the nucleation density at the gas-liquid-solid triple line is too high, and there is enough solute in all directions for the crystal nucleus to grow, resulting in disordered orientation of the fullerene crystal and deterioration of the morphology, such as increased roughness.
- the line speed can be increased and the concentration of the mixed liquid can be reduced.
- the temperature is too low, the solvent evaporates too slowly, making nucleation at the triple line difficult, and only some disordered amorphous can be formed. At this time, the line speed can be reduced and the concentration of the mixed liquid can be increased.

- Comparative Example 3 The difference between Comparative Example 3 and Example 2 is that only carbon tetrachloride is used as the solvent, and the rest is the same as Example 2.
