Definitions
- the present invention relates to a nonwoven fabric for absorbent articles and an absorbent article using the same.
- Patent Document 1 discloses a nonwoven fabric laminate having a total basis weight of 30 g/m2 or less, the laminate including a first spunbonded nonwoven fabric made of a propylene-based polymer, a meltblown nonwoven fabric made of a propylene-based polymer laminated on the first spunbonded nonwoven fabric, and a second spunbonded nonwoven fabric made of a propylene - based polymer laminated on the meltblown nonwoven fabric.
- This nonwoven fabric laminate is characterized in that the first spunbond nonwoven fabric has a basis weight in the range of 3 to 25 g/m2, the second spunbond nonwoven fabric has a basis weight in the range of 1 to 11 g/m2, the ratio of the basis weight of the first spunbond nonwoven fabric to the basis weight of the second spunbond nonwoven fabric is 1.6 or more, and the ratio of the thickness of the first spunbond nonwoven fabric to the thickness of the second spunbond nonwoven fabric is 1.4 or more, the basis weight of the meltblown nonwoven fabric is less than 3 g/ m2 , and the bonded area ratio is in the range of 6 to 25%.
- One way to improve the flexibility of nonwoven fabrics is to reduce the amount of coating liquid (e.g. adhesives, surface modifiers, deodorants, fragrances, antibacterial agents, warming agents, herbal medicine extracts) applied to the nonwoven fabric when it is used in absorbent articles.
- coating liquid e.g. adhesives, surface modifiers, deodorants, fragrances, antibacterial agents, warming agents, herbal medicine extracts
- the amount of coating liquid is reduced, the coating film formed on the surface of the fibers of the nonwoven fabric tends to become thinner (less abundant), and there is a risk that part or all of the coating film may peel off easily. If this happens, there is a risk that the coating film will have difficulty performing its function properly.
- Another method of improving the flexibility of a nonwoven fabric is to reduce the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric.
- the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric is reduced, when applying a coating liquid to one side of the nonwoven fabric, the coating liquid may easily pass through to the other side of the nonwoven fabric and seep out. This may cause adverse effects, such as the coating liquid seeping out from the other side adhering to unintended components during the manufacture, storage, or use of absorbent articles using the nonwoven fabric.
- the coating film may have difficulty in properly performing its function.
- the amount of coating liquid is reduced to prevent the coating liquid from seeping out to the other side, as described above, part or all of the coating film may easily peel off, making it difficult to properly perform its function.
- the coating liquid is an adhesive
- the effect is significant when the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric is reduced, as shown below.
- the adhesive applied to one side of the nonwoven fabric seeps out from the other side, there is a risk of problems in production and storage, such as the nonwoven fabric being joined to an unrelated component via the seeped adhesive, or the seeped adhesive contaminating the manufacturing equipment.
- the absorbent article there is a risk of problems in use, such as the folded absorbent article becoming difficult to open, or the seeped adhesive coming into contact with the skin of the wearer or assistant (e.g., caregiver), causing the wearer or assistant to feel a sticky sensation on the skin.
- the adhesive film formed on the surface of the nonwoven fabric will be thin, and the bond between the adhesive film and the nonwoven fabric or another nonwoven fabric will be weak, which may cause the adhesive film to peel off easily from the nonwoven fabric or another nonwoven fabric.
- the bond between the nonwoven fabric and another nonwoven fabric will be weak, and the nonwoven fabric may be easily peeled off from the other nonwoven fabric.
- Patent Document 1 states that the nonwoven fabric laminate is capable of preventing the adhesive from seeping through, even though the nonwoven fabric has a low basis weight. Specifically, when the nonwoven fabric laminate is used in an absorbent article, the hot melt adhesive applied to the surface of the first spunbond nonwoven fabric is held within the voids in the first spunbond nonwoven fabric, making it difficult for the adhesive to reach the meltblown nonwoven fabric. As a result, the hot melt adhesive is almost completely blocked by the meltblown nonwoven fabric.
- the hot melt adhesive is concentrated in the first spunbond nonwoven fabric. Therefore, even if the nonwoven fabric laminate of Patent Document 1 can prevent stain penetration, the first spunbond nonwoven fabric may become relatively hard due to the concentrated hot melt adhesive. If this happens, the nonwoven fabric laminate may not have flexibility in the absorbent article. Furthermore, even if the nonwoven fabric laminate has flexibility, for example, if the combination of types of layers in the desired nonwoven fabric is different from SMS (including the case of a single type), the technology of Patent Document 1 cannot be used. Alternatively, for example, if the desired nonwoven fabric is an SMS nonwoven fabric, but it is desired to make the basis weight of each layer different from that of the nonwoven fabric laminate of Patent Document 1 in order to impart desired properties, the technology of Patent Document 1 cannot be used.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a nonwoven fabric for absorbent articles that, when used in absorbent articles, can improve flexibility while allowing the coating film to properly function, and an absorbent article using the same.
- One aspect of the present invention is a nonwoven fabric for absorbent articles that includes a plurality of long fibers, each of which includes a plurality of protrusions formed on the fiber surface and a plurality of grooves formed on the fiber surface and in contact with some of the plurality of protrusions.
- Another aspect of the present invention is an absorbent article comprising the nonwoven fabric described in any one of aspects 1 to 12 above and a coating film formed on the nonwoven fabric.
- the present invention provides a nonwoven fabric for absorbent articles that, when used in absorbent articles, can improve flexibility while allowing the coating film to properly function, and an absorbent article using the same.
- FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram showing an example of the configuration of a nonwoven fabric for an absorbent article according to an embodiment, in which FIG. 1( a) shows an example configured with a first long fiber, and FIG. 1( b) shows an example configured with first and second long fibers.
- FIG. 2 is a SEM photograph showing typical examples of constituent fibers of a nonwoven fabric for an absorbent article, in which FIGS. 2( a) to 2(c) show typical examples of a first long fiber of the nonwoven fabric, and FIG. 2(d) shows a typical example of a conventional long fiber of the nonwoven fabric.
- 3 is a further enlarged SEM photograph of the first long fiber in FIG. 2( b ).
- a nonwoven fabric for absorbent articles comprising a plurality of long fibers, each of the plurality of long fibers including a plurality of protrusions formed on a fiber surface and a plurality of grooves formed on the fiber surface and in contact with some of the plurality of protrusions.
- the nonwoven fabric for absorbent articles comprises a plurality of long fibers, and the long fibers include, on the fiber surface, a plurality of convex portions and a plurality of groove portions that contact the plurality of convex portions.
- the fiber surface can be made uneven compared to long fibers that do not include these, and the surface area of the fiber can be increased.
- a coating liquid examples include adhesives, surface modifiers, deodorants, fragrances, antibacterial agents, warming agents, and herbal medicine extracts
- the uneven fiber surface creates an anchor effect for the coating liquid, and the large surface area of the fibers increases the contact area with the coating liquid.
- This makes it possible to make the coating film formed by the coating liquid less likely to peel off, and to increase the adhesion between the coating film and the long fibers, and therefore the adhesion between the coating film and the nonwoven fabric.
- the amount of coating liquid is reduced to increase the flexibility of the nonwoven fabric, it is possible to prevent the coating film from peeling off easily from the long fibers and therefore from the nonwoven fabric, and the coating film can properly perform its function.
- this nonwoven fabric when used in absorbent articles, the flexibility can be improved by reducing the amount of coating liquid, and even if the amount of coating liquid is reduced, the coating film can easily perform its function properly. Furthermore, since the amount of coating liquid can be reduced, the amount of organic material used can be further reduced, which contributes to reducing the environmental burden.
- the amount of coating liquid can be reduced, when the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric is reduced to further increase the flexibility of the nonwoven fabric, the coating liquid applied to one side of the nonwoven fabric during production can be prevented from seeping out from the other side. This can prevent problems from occurring during production, storage, and use.
- the coating liquid is an adhesive
- the following effects can be achieved.
- the amount of adhesive is reduced to increase the flexibility of the nonwoven fabric and the adhesive film formed on the surface of the nonwoven fabric becomes thin
- the adhesive strength of the adhesive film to the long fibers can be increased due to the anchor effect of the long fibers on the adhesive and the increased contact area. This makes it possible to prevent the adhesive film from easily peeling off from the long fibers, and therefore from the nonwoven fabric. Therefore, the adhesive strength between the nonwoven fabric and another nonwoven fabric can be increased.
- the amount of adhesive can be reduced, flexibility can be improved and the amount of organic materials used can be further reduced, contributing to a reduction in environmental impact.
- the amount of adhesive can be reduced, when the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric is reduced to further increase the flexibility of the nonwoven fabric, it is possible to prevent the adhesive applied to one side of the nonwoven fabric during production from seeping out from the other side. This makes it possible to prevent problems from occurring during production, storage, and use.
- the long fibers have portions where convexities are formed in multiple locations.
- the fiber diameter in the portions where convexities are formed is larger than the fiber diameter in other portions by the amount of the convexities.
- the long fibers have non-uniform fiber diameters in multiple locations (convexities). This makes it difficult for the long fibers to adhere to each other. Because the long fibers are thus difficult to adhere to each other, when a coating liquid is applied to the nonwoven fabric, the coating liquid tends to cover the entire surface of the fibers. This makes it possible to increase the adhesion between the coating film and the long fibers, i.e., to increase the adhesion between the coating film and the nonwoven fabric.
- each of the multiple protrusions has a variety of sizes and shapes, and the shapes are different from one another. Therefore, in the areas of the long fibers where relatively large protrusions are formed, the anchor effect is relatively large and the increase in the surface area of the fibers is relatively large. This can further improve the adhesion between the long fibers and the coating film. On the other hand, in the areas where relatively small protrusions are formed, the anchor effect is relatively small and the increase in the surface area of the fibers is relatively small. This can make the long fibers easier to deform and ensure flexibility.
- Aspect 4 The nonwoven fabric according to any one of aspects 1 to 3, wherein the plurality of protruding portions include protruding portions adjacent to the groove portions and protruding portions not adjacent to the groove portions.
- the multiple protrusions include protrusions adjacent to grooves and protrusions not adjacent to grooves. Therefore, in the long fibers, the anchor effect is relatively large in the areas where protrusions adjacent to grooves are formed, and the increase in the surface area of the fibers is relatively large. This can further improve the adhesion between the long fibers and the coating liquid. On the other hand, in the protrusions not adjacent to grooves, the anchor effect is relatively small and the increase in the surface area of the fibers is relatively small. This can make the long fibers easier to deform and ensure flexibility.
- each of the multiple grooves has a different length in the longitudinal direction of the long fibers. Therefore, in the areas of the long fibers where relatively long grooves are formed, the anchor effect is relatively large and the increase in the surface area of the fibers is relatively large. This can further increase the adhesion between the long fibers and the coating liquid. On the other hand, in the areas where relatively short grooves are formed, the anchor effect is relatively small and the increase in the surface area of the fibers is relatively small. This can make the long fibers easier to deform and ensure flexibility.
- Aspect 6 Aspects 6. The nonwoven fabric according to any one of aspects 1 to 5, wherein the height of each of the plurality of protrusions from the surface of the long fiber is 1/50 or more and 1/2 or less of an average fiber diameter of the long fiber.
- the height of the convex portions from the surface of the long fibers is 1/50 or more and 1/2 or less of the average fiber diameter of the long fibers.
- a height of 1/50 or more of the average fiber diameter it is possible to more reliably generate an anchor effect for the coating liquid and an increase in the contact area when the coating liquid is applied to the nonwoven fabric.
- a height of 1/2 or less of the average fiber diameter it is possible to make it difficult for the convex portions to fall off from the fiber surface. As a result, it is possible to further increase the adhesion between the film formed by the coating liquid and the nonwoven fabric.
- Aspect 7 Aspects 7. The nonwoven fabric according to any one of aspects 1 to 6, wherein a depth of each of the plurality of grooves from a surface of the long fibers is 1/50 or more and 1/2 or less of an average fiber diameter of the long fibers.
- the depth from the surface of the fiber length in the grooves is 1/50 or more and 1/2 or less of the average fiber diameter of the long fibers.
- the average fiber diameter By having it be 1/50 or more of the average fiber diameter, it is possible to more reliably generate an anchor effect for the coating liquid and an increase in the contact area when the coating liquid is applied to the nonwoven fabric.
- By having it be 1/2 or less of the average fiber diameter it is possible to prevent the long fibers from partially separating or cutting. As a result, it is possible to further increase the adhesion between the film formed by the coating liquid and the nonwoven fabric.
- Aspect 8 The nonwoven fabric according to any one of aspects 1 to 7, wherein the plurality of long fibers are disposed on one surface of the nonwoven fabric.
- a plurality of long fibers including convex portions and groove portions are arranged on at least one surface. That is, in this nonwoven fabric, a plurality of long fibers including convex portions and groove portions are exposed on at least one surface. Since the fiber surface of the long fibers is uneven, when a coating liquid is applied to one surface, an anchor effect for the coating liquid can be generated, and since the surface area of the fibers is increased, the contact area with the coating liquid can be increased. As a result, even if the amount of coating liquid is reduced, the coating liquid film can be prevented from peeling off from the one surface, and the effect of the coating film can be appropriately exerted on the one surface. In addition, since the amount of coating liquid can be reduced, when the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric is reduced, the coating liquid can be prevented from passing through to the other surface.
- the coating liquid is an adhesive
- the amount of adhesive is reduced, the strength of the bond between the nonwoven fabric to which the adhesive is applied and other nonwoven fabrics can be increased compared to a case in which there are no convex or groove portions. Furthermore, because the amount of adhesive is reduced, even if the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric is reduced, the seepage of the adhesive can be suppressed and flexibility can be increased.
- a plurality of long fibers including protrusions and grooves are arranged on one side, while a plurality of other long fibers not including protrusions and grooves are arranged on the other side. That is, in this nonwoven fabric, a plurality of long fibers including protrusions and grooves are exposed on one side, and a plurality of long fibers not including protrusions and grooves are exposed on the other side. Therefore, the fiber surface on the other side can be made smooth, and the coefficient of friction can be reduced. As a result, by using the other side as the surface of the absorbent article that the wearer or assistant touches, the wearer or assistant can perceive a smooth feel.
- Aspect 10 Aspects 1 to 9, wherein the nonwoven fabric has a plurality of compressed portions formed by embossing the plurality of long fibers, and the plurality of compressed portions are free of the convex portions and the groove portions.
- This nonwoven fabric has multiple bonded sections formed by embossing multiple long fibers.
- the long fibers are compressed by the embossing process, and the convex and groove sections are crushed, resulting in no convex or groove sections.
- the absence of convex and groove sections in the bonded sections prevents the coating liquid from penetrating the bonded sections, preventing a decrease in the bond strength of the bonded sections, and ensuring a strength sufficient for use in absorbent articles.
- the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric is very low, 5 g/m 2 or more and 30 g/m 2 or less. This can further improve the flexibility of the nonwoven fabric.
- the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric is very low, when applying a coating liquid to one side of the nonwoven fabric, the coating liquid may seep out from the other side.
- the amount of coating liquid can be reduced without impairing the function of the coating film. By reducing the amount of coating liquid, the seepage of the coating liquid can be suppressed, and problems in production, storage, and use can be suppressed.
- the shape of the nonwoven fabric can be stably maintained, and by making it 30 g/m 2 or less, the flexibility can be more stably improved. And, since the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric and the amount of coating liquid can be reduced, the flexibility can be improved and the amount of organic material used can be further reduced, which contributes to reducing the environmental load.
- Aspect 12 The nonwoven fabric according to any one of aspects 1 to 11, wherein the protrusions comprise inorganic particles.
- the convex portions are composed of inorganic particles.
- inorganic particles By using inorganic particles, convex portions can be stably formed within the long fibers, and even if the nonwoven fabric comes into contact with the wearer's skin and the inorganic particles come into contact with the skin, adverse effects on the skin are unlikely to occur. Furthermore, by including inorganic particles in the long fibers, the amount of fiber material used can be reduced.
- This absorbent article comprises the above-mentioned nonwoven fabric and a coating film formed by coating the nonwoven fabric.
- the above-mentioned nonwoven fabric has unevenness (grooves and protrusions) on the surface of the fibers. Therefore, even if the amount of coating liquid is reduced, the coating film is less likely to peel off, and the coating film can be easily functioned. Furthermore, even if the nonwoven fabric has a low basis weight, the amount of coating liquid can be reduced to suppress the coating liquid from seeping out during production, storage, and use. By reducing the amount of coating liquid and/or the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric, the flexibility of the nonwoven fabric having the coating film and, in turn, the absorbent article using the nonwoven fabric can be improved.
- the flexibility of the nonwoven fabric can be improved in an absorbent article using a nonwoven fabric having a coating film, and the function of the coating film can be easily properly performed.
- the amount of coating liquid and the amount of nonwoven fabric can be reduced, the amount of organic materials used can be further reduced, which contributes to reducing the environmental load.

- the height of the protrusions 11 is 1/50 or more of the average fiber diameter, an anchor effect for the coating liquid and an increase in the contact area can be more reliably generated when a coating liquid is applied to the nonwoven fabric 1 (first long fibers 10).
- the height of the protrusions 11 is 1/2 or less of the average fiber diameter, the protrusions 11 are less likely to fall off the surface of the first long fibers 10.
- some protrusions may have a height less than 1/50 of the average fiber diameter.
- the size of the projections 11 in a planar view can be, for example, about the height of the projections 11. That is, the size of the projections 11 in a planar view can be, for example, 1/20 to 1/2 of the average fiber diameter of the first long fibers 10, preferably 1/20 to 1/3, and more preferably 1/20 to 1/4.
- the size of the projections 11 is 1/20 or more of the average fiber diameter, it is possible to more reliably generate an anchor effect for the coating liquid and an increase in the contact area when the coating liquid is applied to the nonwoven fabric 1 (first long fibers 10).
- the size of the projections 11 is 1/2 or less of the average fiber diameter, it is possible to make the projections 11 less likely to fall off the surface of the first long fibers 10.
- planar view refers to the surface of the first long fibers 10 viewed from a direction perpendicular to the surface.
- the size of the projections 11 in a planar view refers to the length of the longest part in the projection of the projections 11 onto the surface of the first long fibers 10. However, some projections 11 may have a size less than 1/20 of the average fiber diameter.
- the number of convex portions 11 in plan view on the surface of the first long filaments 10 per 10 ⁇ m ⁇ 10 ⁇ m area on the surface of the first long filaments 10 is, for example, 2 to 200, preferably 10 to 150, and more preferably 10 to 100. Having two or more convex portions 11 can more reliably generate an anchor effect for the coating liquid and an increase in the contact area when the coating liquid is applied to the nonwoven fabric 1 (first long filaments 10). Having 200 or less convex portions 11 can suppress a decrease in the flexibility of the nonwoven fabric 1 (first long filaments 10).
- the average particle size (diameter) of the inorganic particles (protrusions 11a and 11b) can be, for example, 0.1 to 15 ⁇ m, preferably 0.5 to 12 ⁇ m, and more preferably 1 to 10 ⁇ m.
- the average particle size 0.1 ⁇ m or more it is possible to more reliably generate an anchor effect for the coating liquid and an increase in the contact area when the coating liquid is applied to the nonwoven fabric 1 (first long fibers 10).
- the proportion of inorganic particles (protrusions 11a and 11b) in the first long fibers 10 is, for example, 2 to 30% by mass, preferably 3 to 28% by mass, and more preferably 4 to 25% by mass.
- the proportion of inorganic particles 2% by mass or more it becomes easier to more reliably form the protrusions 11 and grooves 12 on the first long fibers 10.
- the inorganic particles are preferably covered with a coating material at least at the raw material stage during manufacturing. This allows the inorganic particles to be stably dispersed within the long fiber raw material (e.g., thermoplastic resin).
- a coating material include organic materials. Examples of organic materials include fatty acids, their salts, and their esters, and examples of fatty acids include stearic acid.
- the groove portion 12 is a portion formed on the surface of the first long fiber 10 and recessed inward from the surface.
- the groove portion 12 includes a groove-shaped portion 12a and a groove-shaped portion 12b.
- the groove-shaped portion 12a is a recess that originates from the convex portion 11a and extends mainly along the length direction of the first long fiber 10. Therefore, the groove-shaped portion 12a is in contact with a part of the convex portion 11a from which it originates.
- "along" a certain direction includes not only a direction parallel to that direction, but also a direction within a range of ⁇ 30° from that direction.
- the groove-shaped portion 12b is a recess that does not originate from the convex portion 11a and exists away from the convex portions 11a and 11b.
- the depth of the grooves 12 (based on the surface of the first long fibers 10) can be, for example, 1/50 to 1/2 of the average fiber diameter of the first long fibers 10, preferably 1/40 to 1/3, and more preferably 1/30 to 1/4.
- the depth of the grooves 12 is 1/50 or more of the average fiber diameter, it is possible to more reliably generate an anchor effect for the coating liquid and an increase in the contact area when the coating liquid is applied to the nonwoven fabric 1 (first long fibers 10).
- the depth is 1/2 or less of the average fiber diameter, it is possible to prevent the first long fibers 10 from being partially separated or cut.
- some grooves may have a depth less than 1/50 of the average fiber diameter.
- the length of the grooves 12 in plan view is, for example, approximately the depth of the grooves 12. That is, the length of the grooves 12 in plan view is, for example, 1/20 to 1/2 of the average fiber diameter of the first long filaments 10, preferably 1/20 to 1/3, and more preferably 1/20 to 1/4.
- the length of the grooves 12 is 1/20 or more of the average fiber diameter, it is possible to more reliably generate an anchor effect for the coating liquid and an increase in the contact area when the coating liquid is applied to the nonwoven fabric 1 (first long filaments 10).
- the length is 1/2 or less of the average fiber diameter, it is possible to prevent the first long filaments 10 from being partially separated or cut.
- the length of the grooves 12 in plan view refers to the length of the longest part of the grooves 12 measured parallel to the surface of the first long filaments 10. However, some grooves 12 may have a length less than 1/20 of the average fiber diameter.
- Each of these grooves 12 has a different length in the longitudinal direction of the first long fiber 10.
- the length db1 of one groove 12a is different from the length db2 of another groove 12a.
- the first long fiber 10 may also have convex portions and groove portions other than those described above.
- the nonwoven fabric 1 has a number of bonded portions (not shown) formed by embossing a number of first long fibers 10.
- the bonded portions are formed when the first long fibers 10 are compressed, melted, and then solidified. Therefore, the inorganic particles are embedded in the molten resin, and the grooves are filled in the molten resin. As a result, the bonded portions have no protrusions 11 or grooves 12.
- nonwoven fabric 1 spunbond nonwoven fabric
- a raw resin is prepared by mixing a master batch containing at least one type of inorganic particles (preferably coated with a coating material) and at least one type of thermoplastic resin.
- the ratio of inorganic particles in the raw resin is the same as the ratio of inorganic particles in the first long fibers.
- the raw resin is heated and melted in an extruder, and the raw resin is continuously discharged vertically downward in a fibrous form from a spinneret connected to the extruder.
- the discharged fibrous resin is then cooled from the side with cold air, while being stretched to a predetermined fiber diameter by a pulling device (ejector) to form the first long fibers.
- the formed first long fibers are spread on a net conveyor and piled up to form a web.
- the first long fibers are partially thermocompressed together (embossed) by a thermocompression roll to form nonwoven fabric 1.
- cold air when cooling the fibrous resin discharged from the spinneret with cold air, cold air is blown from the side at a position closer to the spinneret than usual, preferably directly below the spinneret (for example, 1 to 30 cm below the spinneret in the vertical direction).
- the cold air is preferably cold air with a higher flow rate than usual or cold air with a lower temperature than usual. It is believed that this causes the formation of convex parts and groove parts by the following mechanism (not limited to this).
- the separate cold air makes it easier for the surface of the resin to harden faster than usual, and inorganic particles located near the surface to remain on the surface.
- the inorganic particles are maintained in a state of being held on the surface, and convex parts are formed.
- the resin around the inorganic particles is cooled by the inorganic particles more than other resins and is more difficult to stretch, so groove parts are mainly formed close to the convex parts due to the difference in ease of stretching when the resin is stretched.
- nonwoven fabric 1 spunbond nonwoven fabric
- a raw resin containing at least one type of thermoplastic resin is prepared.
- the raw resin is then heated and melted in an extruder, and the raw resin is continuously discharged vertically downward in the form of fibers from a spinneret connected to the extruder.
- the discharged fibrous resin is then stretched to a specified fiber diameter by a pulling device (ejector) while being cooled from the side with cold air, to form first long fibers.
- the formed first long fibers are then spread and piled up on a net conveyor to form a web.
- the first long fibers are then partially thermocompressed together (embossed) by a thermocompression roll, to form nonwoven fabric 1.
- cold air containing at least one type of inorganic particles is also blown onto the surface of the fibrous resin in addition to the normal cold air.
- the other cold air is preferably blown from the side at a position closer to the spinneret than normal, preferably directly below the spinneret (for example, 1 to 30 cm below the spinneret).
- the cold air is preferably cold air with a higher flow rate than normal or cold air with a lower temperature than normal.
- the inorganic particles are blown and arranged on the surface of the fibrous resin that has not yet solidified by the other cold air, and some of them are partially embedded. As a result, the convex parts due to the inorganic particles are formed on the surface. At that time, the resin around the inorganic particles is cooled by the inorganic particles more than the other resin and becomes more difficult to stretch, so groove parts are mainly formed near the convex parts due to the difference in ease of stretching when the resin is stretched.
- nonwoven fabric 1 is a meltblown nonwoven fabric, it can be produced by using a separate cold air stream in the same way as in the two examples above.
- nonwoven fabric 1a it can be manufactured by forming the first long fiber section 2 in the same manner as in the above example.
- This nonwoven fabric for absorbent articles comprises a plurality of first long filaments 10, which include, on the fiber surface, a plurality of protrusions 11 and a plurality of grooves 12 that contact the plurality of protrusions 11.
- first long filaments 10 include a plurality of protrusions 11 and a plurality of grooves 12
- the fiber surface can be made uneven compared to long filaments that do not include these, and the surface area of the fiber can be increased.
- a coating liquid e.g., adhesive, surface modifier, deodorant, fragrance, antibacterial agent, warming agent, herbal medicine extract
- the uneven fiber surface can create an anchor effect for the coating liquid, and the large surface area of the fiber can increase the contact area with the coating liquid. This makes it possible to make the coating film formed by the coating liquid less likely to peel off, and improves the adhesion between the coating film and the first long fibers 10, and therefore the adhesion between the coating film and the nonwoven fabric.
- the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) when used in an absorbent article, its flexibility can be improved and the coating film can more easily perform its function properly. Furthermore, since the amount of coating liquid can be reduced, the amount of organic material used can be further reduced, which contributes to reducing the environmental burden.
- the amount of coating liquid can be reduced, when the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) is reduced to further increase the flexibility of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a), the coating liquid applied to one side of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) during production can be prevented from seeping out from the other side. This can prevent problems from occurring during production, storage, and use.
- the coating liquid is an adhesive
- the following effects can be achieved.
- the anchor effect of the first long fibers 10 on the adhesive and the increased contact area can increase the bonding strength of the adhesive film to the first long fibers 10. This can prevent the adhesive film from easily peeling off from the first long fibers 10, and therefore from nonwoven fabric 1 (1a). Therefore, the bonding strength between nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) and another nonwoven fabric by the adhesive can be increased.
Furthermore, since the amount of adhesive can be reduced, the flexibility can be improved and the amount of organic materials used can be further reduced, which contributes to reducing the environmental burden.
- the first long fibers 10 of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) have a plurality of portions where the convex portions 11 are formed.
- the fiber diameter of the first long fibers 10 at the portions where the convex portions 11 are formed is larger than the fiber diameter of the remaining portions by the amount of the convex portions. Therefore, the first long fibers 10 have a non-uniform fiber diameter at a plurality of portions (positions of the convex portions 11). Therefore, the first long fibers 10 are less likely to adhere to each other. Since the first long fibers 10 are less likely to adhere to each other, when a coating liquid is applied to the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a), the coating liquid easily covers the entire surface of the fiber. This can increase the adhesion between the coating film and the first long fibers 10, i.e., can increase the adhesion between the coating film and the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a).
- the multiple protrusions 11 of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) are of various sizes and shapes, and are different from one another. Therefore, in the first long filaments 10, in the areas where the relatively large protrusions 11 are formed, the anchor effect is relatively large and the increase in the surface area of the fibers is relatively large. This can further improve the adhesion between the first long filaments 10 and the coating film. On the other hand, in the areas where the relatively small protrusions 11 are formed, the anchor effect is relatively small and the increase in the surface area of the fibers is relatively small. This can make the first long filaments 10 easier to deform and ensure flexibility.
- the multiple convex portions 11 of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) include convex portions 11a adjacent to the groove portions 12 and convex portions 11b not adjacent to the groove portions 12. Therefore, in the first long filaments 10, the anchor effect is relatively large in the portions where the convex portions 11a adjacent to the groove portions 12 are formed, and the increase in the surface area of the fibers is relatively large. This can further improve the adhesion between the first long filaments 10 and the coating liquid. On the other hand, in the convex portions 11b not adjacent to the groove portions 12, the anchor effect is relatively small and the increase in the surface area of the fibers is relatively small. This can make the first long filaments 10 easier to deform and ensure flexibility.
- the multiple grooves 12 of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) each have a different length in the length direction of the first long filaments 10. Therefore, in the first long filaments 10, the anchor effect is relatively large in the portion where the relatively long grooves 12 are formed, and the increase in the surface area of the fibers is relatively large. This can further improve the adhesion between the first long filaments 10 and the coating liquid. On the other hand, in the portion where the relatively short grooves 12 are formed, the anchor effect is relatively small, and the increase in the surface area of the fibers is relatively small. This can make the first long filaments 10 easier to deform and ensure flexibility.
- the height of the convex portions of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) from the surface of the first long fibers 10 is 1/50 or more and 1/2 or less of the average fiber diameter of the first long fibers 10.
- 1/50 or more of the average fiber diameter it is possible to more reliably generate an anchor effect for the coating liquid and an increase in the contact area when the coating liquid is applied to the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a).
- 1/2 or less of the average fiber diameter it is possible to make it difficult for the convex portions 11 to fall off from the fiber surface.
- the depth from the surface of the first long fibers 10 in the grooves 12 of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) is 1/50 or more and 1/2 or less of the average fiber diameter of the first long fibers 10.
- 1/50 or more of the average fiber diameter it is possible to more reliably generate an anchor effect for the coating liquid and an increase in the contact area when the coating liquid is applied to the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a).
- 1/2 or less of the average fiber diameter it is possible to prevent the first long fibers 10 from being partially separated or cut. As a result, it is possible to further increase the adhesion between the coating film of the coating liquid and the first long fibers 10, i.e., the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a).
- a plurality of first long fibers 10 including convex portions 11 and groove portions 12 are arranged on at least one surface of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a). That is, in the present nonwoven fabric 1 (1a), a plurality of first long fibers 10 including convex portions 11 and groove portions 12 are exposed on at least one surface. Since the fiber surface of the first long fibers 10 is uneven, when a coating liquid is applied to the one surface, an anchor effect for the coating liquid can be generated, and since the surface area of the fiber is increased, the contact area with the coating liquid can be increased.
- the film of the coating liquid can be prevented from peeling off from the one surface, and the effect of the coating film can be appropriately exerted on the one surface.
- the amount of the coating liquid can be reduced, when the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) is reduced, the coating liquid can be prevented from passing through to the other surface.
- the coating liquid is an adhesive
- the strength of the bond between the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) coated with the adhesive and other nonwoven fabrics can be increased compared to a case in which the convex portions 11 and groove portions 12 are not present.
- the amount of adhesive is reduced, even if the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) is reduced, the seepage of the adhesive can be suppressed and flexibility can be increased.
- a plurality of first long fibers 10 including protrusions 11 and grooves 12 are arranged on one side of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a), while a plurality of other long fibers not including protrusions 11 and grooves 12 are arranged on the other side. That is, in the present nonwoven fabric 1a, a plurality of first long fibers 10 including protrusions 11 and grooves 12 are exposed on one side, and a plurality of long fibers not including protrusions 11 and grooves 12 are exposed on the other side. Therefore, the fiber surface on the other side can be made smooth, and the friction coefficient can be reduced. As a result, by using the other side as the surface of the absorbent article that the wearer or assistant touches, the wearer or assistant can perceive a smooth feel.
- the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) has a plurality of bonded portions (not shown) formed by embossing a plurality of first long fibers 10.
- the first long fibers 10 are compressed by embossing, and the convex portions 11 and groove portions 12 are crushed, so that the convex portions 11 and groove portions 12 are not present.
- the absence of the convex portions 11 and groove portions 12 in the bonded portions prevents the coating liquid from penetrating the bonded portions, suppressing a decrease in the bond strength of the bonded portions, and ensuring a strength usable for absorbent articles.
- the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) is 5 g/m 2 or more and 30 g/m 2 or less, which is very low. This can further improve the flexibility of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a). In this case, since the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) is very low, when applying a coating liquid to one side of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a), the coating liquid may seep out from the other side. However, since each of the first long fibers 10 of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) contains a plurality of convex portions 11 and a plurality of groove portions 12, the amount of the coating liquid can be reduced without impairing the function of the coating film.
- the seepage of the coating liquid can be suppressed, and problems in the manufacture, storage, and use of absorbent articles can be suppressed.
- the basis weight 5 g/m 2 or more the shape of the nonwoven fabric can be stably maintained, and by making the basis weight 30 g/m 2 or less, the flexibility can be more stably improved.
- the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) can be reduced and the amount of coating liquid can be reduced, the flexibility can be improved and the amount of organic material used can be reduced, which contributes to reducing the environmental load.
- the convex portions of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) are composed of inorganic particles.
- the convex portions 11 can be stably formed within the first long fibers 10, and even if the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) comes into contact with the skin of a wearer and the inorganic particles come into contact with the skin, adverse effects on the skin are unlikely to occur.
- the amount of fiber material used can be reduced.

- the constituent members of the absorbent include absorbent materials, namely pulp fibers and superabsorbent polymers.
- pulp fibers include cellulosic fibers.
- cellulosic fibers include wood pulp, crosslinked pulp, non-wood pulp, regenerated cellulose, and semi-synthetic cellulose.

- the nonwoven fabric 1, 1a for absorbent articles described above can be applied to at least one of the top sheet, back sheet, diffusion sheet, leak-proof wall, side sheet, exterior sheet, core wrap sheet, etc.
- Various coating films can be formed on each sheet. Examples of coating liquids that are applied to the nonwoven fabric to form the coating films include adhesives, surface modifiers, deodorants, fragrances, antibacterial agents, warming agents, herbal medicine extracts, etc.
- an adhesive e.g., a hot melt adhesive
- the two sheets to be bonded include a top sheet and a back sheet, a top sheet and a diffusion sheet, a top sheet and a core wrap sheet, a diffusion sheet and a core wrap sheet, a back sheet and/or a core wrap sheet, a back sheet and an exterior sheet, two exterior sheets, etc.
- the basis weight of the adhesive may be, for example, 1 to 100 g/m 2 , but in order to suppress flexibility and seepage, 1 to 20 g/m 2 is preferable, 1 to 10 g/m 2 is more preferable, and 1 to 6 g/m 2 is even more preferable.
- a hydrophilizing agent surface modifier
- nonwoven fabrics that can be hydrophilized include surface sheets, diffusion sheets, and core wrap sheets.
- the ratio of hydrophilizing agent to the nonwoven fabric is, for example, 0.1 to 2.0% by mass, but 0.3 to 1.0% by mass is preferable to improve flexibility and suppress bleeding.
- nonwoven fabric absorbent article
- a specific function such as a deodorizing function, a fragrant function, an antibacterial function, a warming function, or a herbal medicine function
- a deodorant, a fragrance, an antibacterial agent, a warming agent, or a herbal medicine extract may be applied to the surface of the nonwoven fabric.
- nonwoven fabrics to which a specific function is imparted include a top sheet, a back sheet, a diffusion sheet, a leak-proof wall, a side sheet, an exterior sheet, and a core wrap sheet.
- the basis weight of the coating agent having the specific function is, for example, 1 to 100 g/ m2 , but in order to suppress flexibility and seepage, 1 to 20 g/ m2 is preferable.
- coating liquid and the sheet to which it is applied are not limited to the above examples.
- the absorbent article comprises the above-mentioned nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) and a coating film (not shown) formed on the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a).
- the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) has unevenness (groove portion 12 and protrusion portion 11) on the surface of the first long fiber 10. Therefore, even if the amount of coating liquid is reduced, the coating film is less likely to peel off, and the coating film can be easily functioned. Furthermore, even if the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) is kept low, the amount of coating liquid can be reduced to suppress the coating liquid from seeping out during production, storage, and use. By reducing the amount of coating liquid and/or the basis weight of the nonwoven fabric, the flexibility of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) having the coating film and, by extension, the absorbent article using the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) can be improved.
- the flexibility of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) can be improved in an absorbent article using the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) having the coating film, and the function of the coating film can be easily performed appropriately.
- the amount of coating liquid and the nonwoven fabric can be reduced, the amount of organic materials used can be further reduced, which contributes to reducing the environmental load.
- the coating liquid is an adhesive
- the flexibility of the nonwoven fabric 1 (1a) having an adhesive film, and in turn of the absorbent article using the same can be improved, the bleeding of the adhesive during manufacturing can be suppressed, and the bonding strength between the nonwoven fabric and other materials can be increased.
- ⁇ Basis weight of nonwoven fabric (1) Five samples of a predetermined size (e.g., 100 mm x 100 mm) are cut out from the nonwoven fabric. (2) The masses of the five cut samples are measured using a direct reading balance (electronic balance HF-300 manufactured by Kensei Kogyo Co., Ltd.). - a direct reading balance electronic balance HF-300 manufactured by Kensei Kogyo Co., Ltd.
- ⁇ Thickness of nonwoven fabric> Using a thickness gauge (FS-60DS manufactured by Daiei Scientific Instruments Co., Ltd.), five different sites on the nonwoven fabric are pressed with a probe having a measurement surface of 50.5 mm (diameter) at a measurement pressure of 3 gf/cm2 (0.3 kPa) under standard conditions (temperature 23 ⁇ 2 °C, relative humidity 50 ⁇ 5%). (4) In the captured image, the number of protrusions and the number of grooves present in a specified area (e.g., 10 ⁇ m x 10 ⁇ m) on the surface of a specific fiber are determined, and these numbers are regarded as the number of protrusions and grooves per specified area for that sample. (5) The above steps (1) to (4) are carried out for five samples, and the average value is calculated to obtain the final number of projections and grooves per given area.

- the length of the longest part of each convex portion and the length of the longest part of each groove portion when the surface of the fiber is viewed in plan are calculated as the size (range) of the convex portion and the length (range) of the groove portion, respectively. - (4) In the captured image for inorganic particles in a specified area (e.g., 10 ⁇ m x 10 ⁇ m) on the surface of the fiber, the length of the longest part of each inorganic particle when the surface of the fiber is viewed in a plane is determined, and the average of these lengths is calculated to be the average particle size of the inorganic particles in the sample.
- the above steps (1) to (4) are carried out for five samples, and the average value is calculated to obtain the final average particle size of the inorganic particles.
- ⁇ Height of protrusion> (1) to (3) are the same as ⁇ the number of convex portions, the number of groove portions>.
- the height of each protrusion in a predetermined range e.g., 10 ⁇ m long
- the average of the heights of all the protrusions is the average height of the protrusions for that sample.
- the above steps (1) to (4) are carried out for five samples, and the average of the upper and lower limits of the range is calculated to determine the final height (range) of the convex portions. Note that the final average height of the convex portions is determined by averaging the heights of all the convex portions.
- ⁇ Groove Depth> Cut the nonwoven fabric into a sample measuring 1 cm x 1 cm. (2) The sample is placed on the sample stage of an electron microscope (FlexSEM1000, manufactured by Hitachi High-Technologies Corporation) with the cut surface of the nonwoven fabric facing upward. (3) An image of the cross section of the sample is taken at 2000x magnification. (4) In the photographed image, the depth of each groove around the entire circumference of the edge of the cut surface of the fiber is measured relative to the surface of the fiber to determine the depth (range) of the groove. The average depth of all the grooves is the average depth of the sample. (5) The above (1) to (4) are carried out for five samples, and the average of the upper and lower limits of the range is calculated to determine the final groove depth (range). Note that the average of all the groove depths is the final average groove depth.
- a nonwoven fabric (using long fibers) is cut into a sample measuring 5 cm x 5 cm.
- Measure the mass of the sample (mass A).
- the sample is immersed in an organic solvent (e.g., aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene or toluene at 80° C. or higher) that can dissolve the resin but cannot dissolve the inorganic particles, and only the resin is dissolved in the organic solvent.
- the organic solvent in which the resin has been dissolved is filtered to extract the inorganic particles.
- the mass of the extracted inorganic particles is measured (mass B).
- the proportion of inorganic particles in the long fibers of the sample is calculated from mass A and mass B.
- the above steps (1) to (6) are carried out for five samples, and the average value is calculated to determine the final ratio of inorganic particles in the long fibers.
- ⁇ Tensile properties of nonwoven fabric strength at maximum point, elongation at maximum point, strength at 5% elongation>
- a nonwoven fabric is cut into a size of 150 mm x 50 mm to prepare a sample. However, the sample is prepared so that the 150 mm direction is the MD direction and the 150 mm direction is the CD direction.
- the tensile properties (maximum point strength, maximum point elongation, and strength at 5% elongation) of the sample are measured under conditions of a chuck distance of 100 mm and a tensile speed of 100 mm/min.
- the above (1) and (2) are carried out for five samples, and the average values are calculated to obtain the final tensile properties (maximum point strength, maximum point elongation, and strength at 5% elongation) in the MD and CD directions.
- bending rigidity value (B)> Cut the nonwoven fabric into a sample measuring 100 mm x 100 mm.
- a pure bending test is performed using a pure bending tester (KES-FB2-A manufactured by Kato Tech Co., Ltd.) under the following measurement conditions: SENS: 20, maximum curvature: ⁇ 2.5, sample width: 100 mm, number of repetitions: 1, and the KES-flexural rigidity value: B (10 -4 Nm 2 /m) is calculated.
- the flexural rigidity value: B is calculated between a curvature of 0.5 and 1.5.
- the bending direction is performed under the condition that the sample is folded back in the MD direction so that the crease is parallel to the CD direction.
- the above steps (1) and (2) are carried out for five samples, and the average value is calculated to obtain the final bending stiffness value: B.
- ⁇ Nonwoven fabric surface characteristics average coefficient of friction (MIU)> (1) Cut the nonwoven fabric into a sample measuring 100 mm x 100 mm. (2) Using a surface tester (KES-FB4-A manufactured by Kato Tech Co., Ltd.), the average friction coefficient: MIU is evaluated under the following measurement conditions: SENS-MIU: 2 x 5, static friction load: 50.0 g, moving speed: 1.0 mm/sec, terminal size: 5 mm x 5 mm. Note that a piano wire with a diameter of 0.5 mm is wound around the terminal. The friction direction is the MD direction. (3) The above steps (1) and (2) are carried out for five samples, and the average value is calculated to obtain the final average coefficient of friction: MIU.
- ⁇ Peel test peel strength, peak peel strength> (1)
- Two nonwoven fabrics are bonded together with a hot melt adhesive, and cut into a sample measuring 150 mm (MD) x 25 mm (CD).
- the bonding conditions are as follows: the type of adhesive is a rubber-based hot melt adhesive, the application temperature is 160°C, the adhesive pattern is a spiral pattern, the adhesive basis weight is 5 g/ m2 , the application speed is 50 m/min, and the pressure during bonding is 5 N/10 mm.
- the average value of the measured load values is regarded as the average peel strength (N/25 mm), and the maximum value is regarded as the peak peel strength (N/25 mm).
- the above steps (1) to (4) are carried out on five samples, and the average values are calculated to obtain the final average peel strength (N/25 mm) and peak peel strength (N/25 mm).
- Example 6 the ratio of inorganic particles to long fibers in the spunbond nonwoven fabric on one side (non-embossed surface) was 21.0% by mass, but in the spunbond nonwoven fabric and meltblown nonwoven fabric on the other side (embossed surface), it was 0% by mass. In Comparative Example 3, inorganic particles were not included in the long fibers.
- Evaluation results (a) Characteristics of nonwoven fabric (Tables 1 and 2) The evaluation results of the properties of the nonwoven fabrics are shown in the following Tables 1 (SB nonwoven fabric) and 2 (SMS nonwoven fabric).
- the sample of Example 1 is the sample in the SEM photograph of Fig. 2(a)
- the sample of Example 3 is the sample in the SEM photograph of Fig. 2(c)
- the sample of Comparative Example 1 is the sample in the SEM photograph of Fig. 2(d). From the observation and measurement of these samples and the sample in the SEM photograph of Fig.
- the height of the convex portions 11 was 1/50 to 1/2 of the average fiber diameter of the first long filaments 10, the size in a plan view was 1/20 to 1/2 of the average fiber diameter of the first long filaments 10, the depth of the groove portions 12 was 1/50 to 1/2 of the average fiber diameter of the first long filaments 10, and the length in a plan view was 1/20 to 1/2 of the average fiber diameter of the first long filaments 10, although numerical values are not shown. It was also found that the number of protrusions 11 was 2 to 200 per 10 ⁇ m ⁇ 10 ⁇ m area on the surface of the first long fiber 10, and the average particle size of the inorganic particles was 0.1 to 15 ⁇ m.
- the B value which indicates the bending rigidity of the nonwoven fabric, decreases by adding inorganic particles, regardless of whether a lubricant is used. This shows that the addition of inorganic particles improves the deformability and drapeability of the nonwoven fabric. At the same time, it shows that the addition of inorganic particles increases the MIU, which indicates the average coefficient of friction of the nonwoven fabric. This shows that the addition of inorganic particles increases the unevenness (roughness) of the surface of the nonwoven fabric.
- the MIU which indicates the average coefficient of friction
- the MIU which indicates the average coefficient of friction
- the addition of inorganic particles reduces the maximum point strength (Imax) in the MD and CD directions and the strength at 5% elongation (I5%), but ensures a maximum point strength (Imax) of 10N/50mm or more in the CD direction, which is necessary when using the absorbent article, so tearing is unlikely to occur during use and there is no problem with use.
- the adhesive can be applied to denser areas with smaller inter-fiber distances. It is believed that the average peel strength increases due to the hot melt adhesive impregnation. Furthermore, the average peel strength after storage for one day under an environment of 40° C. and a pressure of 3.5 gf/cm 2 , which is assumed to be stored in a package as an absorbent article, was also increased compared to the comparative example. These effects are believed to be due to the convex and groove portions of the nonwoven fabrics to which inorganic particles have been added (sample numbers (2), (3), (4), (6), (8), and (9)).
- the amount of adhesive can be reduced to increase flexibility and also improve the function of the adhesive, i.e., the strength of the bond between the nonwoven fabric and the other nonwoven fabric by the adhesive. Furthermore, because the amount of adhesive can be reduced, this contributes to reducing the environmental impact.
- the nonwoven fabric for absorbent articles and the absorbent articles of the present invention are not limited to the above-mentioned embodiments, and can be appropriately combined with other technologies or modified within the scope of the purpose and intent of the present invention.
