Definitions
- the present invention relates to a film roll package in which a polyvinyl alcohol film is wrapped around a core tube, a method for producing the same, and a method for storing or transporting the film roll.
- polyvinyl alcohol-based films are produced by dissolving polyvinyl alcohol-based resin in a solvent, degassing the solution, and then forming a film using the solution casting method, and drying the film using a metal heating roll or the like.
- the polyvinyl alcohol-based film obtained in this way has many uses as a film with excellent shape stability, one of its useful uses being optical films, particularly polarizing films.
- Polarizing films are made by uniaxially stretching and dyeing the polyvinyl alcohol film, and are used as a basic component of liquid crystal displays.
- their applications have expanded to devices that require high quality and high reliability, particularly large-screen liquid crystal displays, and there is a strong demand for improvements to the associated physical properties, such as larger size and higher quality in-plane uniformity.
- a film roll made of a polyvinyl alcohol film wound around a core tube longer than the width of the film is wrapped in a water vapor barrier resin packaging film, and then wrapped in a packaging film made of an aluminum material to prevent film roll misalignment, film damage, and film deterioration due to blocking during storage or transportation, and to obtain a polarizing film with less variation in optical performance from the outer periphery of the film roll to the core (see Patent Document 1).
- the packaging material near the end face of the film roll is easily damaged during storage or transportation, and the polyvinyl alcohol-based film surface near the end face of the film roll absorbs moisture due to the damage of the packaging material, which may cause the polyvinyl alcohol-based film to break during stretching, resulting in a deterioration of the optical properties.
- polyvinyl alcohol-based films As liquid crystal displays become thinner, there is an increasing demand for even thinner polyvinyl alcohol-based films.
- polyvinyl alcohol-based films When polyvinyl alcohol-based films become thinner, they can break even from minor scratches that were not a problem before, the length of the film roll on which the polyvinyl alcohol-based film is wound increases, the frequency of foreign matter adhesion and breakage increases each time the film roll is used, and the deterioration of physical properties and optical characteristics due to moisture absorption by the surface of the polyvinyl alcohol-based film near the end of the film roll becomes more pronounced.
- a film roll obtained by winding a polyvinyl alcohol-based film around a core tube;
- a film roll packaging body comprising:
- the packaging material is made of a film containing at least an aluminum material,
- [8] A method for producing the film roll packaging according to any one of [1] to [7], A step of attaching protective pads to both end surface portions of the film roll; packaging the film roll to which the protective pad is attached in a packaging material made of a film containing an aluminum material;
- the method for producing a film roll packaging body comprising the steps of: [9] A method for storing or transporting a film roll, comprising storing or transporting the film roll in the form of the film roll packaging according to any one of [1] to [7].
- the film roll packaging of the present invention comprises a film roll formed by wrapping a polyvinyl alcohol-based film around a core tube, a packaging material made of a film containing an aluminum material, and protective pads placed on both end surfaces of the film roll, and the protective pads are made of a special foam material with a specific relationship between thickness and 25% compressive stress, so that scratches on the film roll during storage and transportation and damage to the packaging material near the end surfaces of the film roll can be sufficiently prevented. Furthermore, when the film roll is used in a clean room, it is possible to suppress deterioration of the physical properties and optical properties due to dust and dirt adhering to the film roll, and moisture absorption on the surface of the polyvinyl alcohol-based film near the end surfaces of the film roll.
- the film roll package can be produced efficiently. Furthermore, according to the method for storing or transporting a film roll of the present invention, the film roll can be stored and transported in good condition without damaging the packaging material of the film roll and without scratching or soiling the film roll itself.

- FIG. 2A is a schematic cross-sectional view of a protective pad used in the embodiment
- FIG. 2B is a schematic cross-sectional view of a modified example thereof.
- FIG. 1 is an explanatory diagram showing an example of a conventional packaging form for a film roll.
- the film roll packaging of the present invention is primarily used in the process prior to the manufacture of polarizing films and polarizing plates, and is effective when storing or transporting the film roll packaging.
- the film roll package includes a film roll 13 obtained by wrapping a polyvinyl alcohol-based film 11, before it is stretched or otherwise processed for use in a polarizing film or the like, around a core tube 12, a packaging material 14 made of a film containing at least an aluminum material, a second packaging material 15 made of a water vapor barrier film, and protective pads 16 disposed on both end surface portions of the film roll 13.

- the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin used in the production of the polyvinyl alcohol-based film 11 is usually obtained by saponifying polyvinyl acetate obtained by polymerizing vinyl acetate, but is not necessarily limited thereto, and may be a modified polyvinyl alcohol-based resin containing a small amount of a component copolymerizable with vinyl acetate, such as an unsaturated carboxylic acid (including a salt, an ester, an amide, a nitrile, etc.), an olefin having 2 to 30 carbon atoms (ethylene, propylene, n-butene, isobutene, etc.), a vinyl ether, an unsaturated sulfonate, or the like.
- a component copolymerizable with vinyl acetate such as an unsaturated carboxylic acid (including a salt, an ester, an amide, a nitrile, etc.), an olefin having 2 to 30 carbon atoms (ethylene, propylene
- polyvinyl alcohol resins may contain silyl groups, and methods such as post-modifying polyvinyl alcohol with a silylating agent or copolymerizing a silyl group-containing olefinically unsaturated monomer with vinyl acetate and saponifying the resulting copolymer are also possible.
- silyl group-containing olefinically unsaturated monomers include vinyl silane and (meth)acrylamide-alkyl silane.
- the weight average molecular weight of the polyvinyl alcohol resin is not particularly limited, but is preferably 60,000 to 300,000, and more preferably 100,000 to 260,000. If the weight average molecular weight is less than 60,000, sufficient optical performance as an optical film cannot be obtained, and if it exceeds 300,000, stretching becomes difficult, making industrial production difficult and undesirable.
- the weight average molecular weight is measured by the GPC-MALS method.
- the degree of saponification of the polyvinyl alcohol resin is preferably 80 mol% or more, more preferably 85 to 100 mol%, and even more preferably 98 to 100 mol%.
- the degree of saponification is measured in accordance with JIS K 6726:1994 method.

- the release agent in the above range, it is possible to prevent poor appearance of the film surface and blocking between films.
- the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin is used to prepare an aqueous solution of the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin, and the aqueous solution is cast onto a drum-type roll from a T-shaped slit die to form a film, which is then dried to obtain the polyvinyl alcohol-based film 11 used in this embodiment.

- glycerin polyhydric alcohols such as ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, tetraethylene glycol, and trimethylolpropane
- amines such as ethylenediamine and diethylenetriamine, and mixtures thereof are used as solvents.
- concentration of polyvinyl alcohol-based resin in the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin aqueous solution is 5 to 50% by mass
- the polyvinyl alcohol resin aqueous solution is cast onto a drum-type roll from a T-shaped slit die to form a film at a temperature of about 80 to 100°C.
- the material of such a drum-shaped roll is not particularly limited, but stainless steel is usually preferably used, and it is preferable that the surface of such a roll is metal-plated to prevent scratches.
- the type of metal plating for example, chrome plating, nickel plating, zinc plating, etc. can be preferably used, and they can be used alone or in a multi-layer combination of two or more types.
- the outermost surface is chrome plated, and the surface roughness (based on JIS B 0031:1994 method) is 3S or less, and more preferably 0.5S or less.

- the diameter of the drum-type roll is preferably 2,000 to 5,000 mm, and the width is preferably 2 to 8 m. When the moisture content of the film reaches 5 to 30% by mass, it is peeled off from the drum-type roll.
- the film is passed between drying metal rolls, preferably multiple drying metal rolls so that the front and back surfaces of the film pass alternately along the circumferential surface of the roll, and dried. It is preferable to use multiple drying metal rolls, preferably 3 to 30, and especially 3 to 26.
- the material of the drying metal roll is not particularly limited, as with the drum-type roll, but from the standpoint of ease of surface smoothing and durability, it is preferable that the outermost surface is chrome plated and that the surface roughness is 3S or less, and more preferably 0.5S or less.

- acid aqueous solutions of pH 1-3 include aqueous solutions of acetic acid, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, etc., and among these, aqueous solutions of acetic acid and nitric acid are particularly preferred. It is difficult to obtain a wet tension in the above range with an acid aqueous solution with a pH outside the above range.
- a method for adjusting the wet tension can also be used in which (B) a surfactant is added in advance to an aqueous polyvinyl alcohol resin solution so that film formation is performed under conditions in which the wet tension of the roll surface falls within the above range, and the aqueous solution is cast onto a drum-shaped roll to form a film, and/or the resulting film is dried with a metal drying roll. Adjusting the wet tension in this way is preferable in terms of improving the uniformity of the film thickness, the film appearance characteristics, and long-run film formation.
- the amount of the surfactant added is not particularly limited, but is preferably 0.001 to 5 parts by mass, more preferably 0.01 to 2 parts by mass, and even more preferably 0.01 to 1 part by mass, per 100 parts by mass of polyvinyl alcohol-based resin. By keeping the amount added within the above range, it is possible to prevent the difficulty in adjusting the wetting tension and the occurrence of blocking problems in the film.
- the surfactants include carboxylate-type surfactants such as fatty acid soaps, N-acylamino acids and their salts, polyoxyethylene alkyl ester carboxylates, and acylated peptides; sulfonate-type surfactants such as alkylbenzene sulfonates, alkylnaphthalene sulfonates, formalin polycondensates of naphthalene sulfonic acid salts, formalin condensates of melamine sulfonic acid salts, dialkyl sulfosuccinate ester salts, alkyl sulfosuccinate di-salts, polyoxyethylene alkyl sulfosuccinate di-salts, alkyl sulfoacetates, ⁇ -olefin sulfonates, N-acyl methyl taurine salts, and dimethyl-5-sulfoisophthalate sodium salt; sulfated oils, higher al

In carrying out the method of the present invention, it is of course possible to form a film
- the film may be further subjected to heat treatment or humidity adjustment as required, thereby obtaining the polyvinyl alcohol film 11 used in the present embodiment.
- the obtained polyvinyl alcohol-based film 11 is wound around a core tube 12 described below to obtain the film roll 13 of this embodiment.
- the width of the polyvinyl alcohol-based film 11 is preferably 1 m or more, more preferably 2 m or more, even more preferably 3 m or more, and particularly preferably 4 m or more. Also, it is preferably 7 m or less, and more preferably 6 m or less.
- the width of the polyvinyl alcohol-based film 11 By setting the width of the polyvinyl alcohol-based film 11 within the above range, the effect of the neck-in of the film is likely to extend to the center of the film during uniaxial stretching during the production of an optical film such as a polarizing film, and a good optical film can be obtained.
- the effects of the present invention are more pronounced when the length of the polyvinyl alcohol-based film 11 is 4,000 m or more. If the length is less than 1,000 m, the resulting polarizing film will have many seams, resulting in increased loss.
- the thickness of the polyvinyl alcohol-based film 11 is practically 10 to 100 ⁇ m, preferably 10 to 70 ⁇ m, more preferably 10 to 50 ⁇ m, and even more preferably 10 to 40 ⁇ m. - the length of the core tube 12 needs to be longer than the width of the polyvinyl alcohol-based film 11, and it is preferable that the length of the core tube 12 protrudes from the end of the film roll 13 by 1 to 50 cm.
- the thickness of the core tube 12 is preferably 1.5 to 20 mm, more preferably 2 to 15 mm, and even more preferably 3 to 10 mm.
- the polyvinyl alcohol film 11 is wound around a core tube 12 to form a film roll 13.
- the film roll 13 has protective pads 16 arranged on both end surfaces of the film roll 13, which are made of a foam material.
- the foam material used in the protective pad 16 is not particularly limited as long as it has a foam structure, but it is important that the value of H in the following formula (1) is 0.18 or more, and in particular, it is preferably 0.2 or more, more preferably 0.24 or more, and even more preferably 0.26 or more.
- T / K H ... (1) [T: thickness of foamed member (mm), K: 25% compressive stress of foamed member (kPa)]
- the value of H is preferably 4 or less, more preferably 3 or less, and further preferably 2 or less. That is, when the value of H is within the above range, when an external impact or load is applied to the film roll package, the protective pad 16 moderately absorbs the impact, thereby preventing the packaging material 14 packaging the film roll 13 from being damaged and broken. This also prevents the polyvinyl alcohol-based film 11 packed inside from absorbing moisture.
- the thickness (T) of the foamed material is preferably 3 mm or more, more preferably 7 mm or more, and even more preferably 9 mm or more. By setting the thickness within the above range, damage to the end surface of the film roll 13 can be more effectively prevented. - the water absorption rate of the foamed material is preferably 0.05 g/cm 2 or less, more preferably 0.03 g/cm 2 or less, and even more preferably 0.015 g/cm 2 or less.
- the foamed material absorbs moisture in the polyvinyl alcohol-based film to cause uneven moisture content in the polyvinyl alcohol-based film, and it is possible to suppress the polyvinyl alcohol-based film from being easily cut during uniaxial stretching.
- the water absorption rate is preferably, for example, 0.0002 g/cm 2 or more.
- the water absorption rate in this specification means the water absorption rate measured by the measurement method described in JIS A9511:2006R, Method A.
- the foam member may be formed from a foamed plastic having closed cells, or may be formed from a foamed plastic having open cells.
- the polyvinyl alcohol-based film 11 in the film roll packaging may have its moisture content controlled to be within a specified range. If a foaming material made of open-cell foamed plastic is used, the moisture content in the polyvinyl alcohol-based film 11 will change due to the influence of the water absorption rate of the foaming material. In such cases, it is preferable to use a closed-cell foamed plastic as the foaming material.
- the material of the foam member is not particularly limited, and for example, a foam member formed from a foamed plastic resin such as a foamed polyethylene resin, a foamed polystyrene resin, a foamed polyurethane resin, or a foamed polyvinyl chloride resin can be used.
- a foam member made of a material that is prone to high water absorption is used, it becomes difficult to suppress the change in moisture content in the polyvinyl alcohol film 11 in the package. From this viewpoint, when such suppression is necessary, it is preferable to use a foam member made from a foamed polyethylene resin that is easy to suppress the water absorption rate to a low level.
- a non-foamed resin layer 18 is preferably provided on the surface of the protective pad 16 that faces the end surface of the polyvinyl alcohol-based film 11 (i.e., the end surface of the film roll 13) in order to prevent the film roll 13 from being soiled or scratched.

Also, it is preferably 8 ⁇ m or less, more preferably 6 ⁇ m or less, and even more preferably 4 ⁇ m or less.
- the method of joining the non-foamed resin layer 18 and the protective pad 16 made of the foamed material is not particularly limited, and an appropriate method is adopted depending on their materials.

- packaging film containing aluminum material as the packaging material 14, it is possible to suppress the occurrence of pinholes in the aluminum material layer, making it less likely that the water vapor barrier properties will decrease.
- the film roll 13 after wrapping it in this packaging material 14, the film roll can be sealed in a roughly tubular shape using a method such as heat sealing, making it possible to more effectively suppress the infiltration of water into the film roll package.
- the thickness of the aluminum foil is preferably 30 ⁇ m or less, more preferably 20 ⁇ m or less, even more preferably 15 ⁇ m or less, particularly preferably 10 ⁇ m or less, and particularly preferably 8 ⁇ m or less. - the order of packaging is not limited to this example, and other examples include an arrangement in which the components are arranged as follows from the inside of the package (the film roll 13 side) to the outside of the package: An embodiment in which the components are arranged in the following order: film roll 13/protective pad 16/packaging material 14 (aluminum-based film)/second packaging material 15 (water vapor barrier film)/outside of the packaging body. An embodiment in which the components are arranged in the following order: film roll 13/packaging material 14 (aluminum-based film)/protective pad 16/second packaging material 15 (water vapor barrier film)/outside of the packaging body.

- sheet-type desiccants examples include “ID Sheet” manufactured by ID Co., Ltd., “Arrow Sheet” and “Zeo Sheet” manufactured by Shinagawa Kasei Co., Ltd., and "High Sheet Dry” manufactured by High Sheet Kogyo Co., Ltd.
- the film roll package may be manufactured by any method without any particular limitations, but since the film roll 13 can be efficiently and smoothly packaged, a method that includes a step of attaching protective pads 16 to both ends of the film roll 13, and a step of packaging the film roll 13 with the protective pads 16 attached in a packaging material 14 (aluminum-based film) and/or a second packaging material 15 (water vapor barrier film), preferably a step of further attaching second protective pads to both ends of the packaged film roll 13, may be adopted.

- the film roll packaging thus obtained can adequately prevent damage to the packaging materials 14, 15 near the end faces of the film roll 13 and scratches on the film roll 13 during storage and transportation, and can suppress scratches on the film roll 13 even when the film roll 13 is used in a clean room.
- the storage temperature is preferably within the range of -20 to 50°C, more preferably within the range of -10 to 40°C, and even more preferably within the range of -5 to 30°C.
- the storage humidity is preferably 90% RH or less, and more preferably 45 to 80% RH.
- the storage period for the film roll packaging there are no particular limitations on the storage period for the film roll packaging, but it is preferable for it to be within the range of 1 day to 1 year, and more preferably within the range of 2 days to 6 months.
- the film roll packaging of the present invention can adequately prevent scratches on the film roll during storage or transportation, and damage to the packaging material near the end face of the film roll. Even when the film roll is used in a clean room, scratches on the film roll can be suppressed, and dust and dirt adhering to the film roll, as well as shavings generated from the packaging material, can be suppressed. Therefore, the present invention includes a method for storing or transporting a film roll 13, in which the film roll is stored or transported in the form of the packaging of the present invention described above.
- the film roll stored or transported in the form of the film roll packaging of the present invention can reduce breakage of the polyvinyl alcohol film in the film roll when it is uniaxially stretched, and can suppress the generation and adhesion of dust, so it can be preferably used to provide polarizing films and polarizing plates with excellent optical properties.
- the polyvinyl alcohol-based film in the film roll packaging of the present invention is useful for optical applications, particularly as a raw film for polarizing films, so the method for producing polarizing films will be described below.
- the manufacturing method of the polarizing film includes stretching such a polyvinyl alcohol-based film and dyeing it by immersing it in a solution of iodine or a dichroic dye, or stretching and dyeing are performed simultaneously, or dyeing it with iodine or a dichroic dye and stretching it, and then treating it with a boron compound. There is also a method of dyeing it and then stretching it in a solution of a boron compound, and the appropriate method can be selected and used.
- the thickness of the polyvinyl alcohol film used in the polarizing film is preferably 10 to 100 ⁇ m, more preferably 10 to 70 ⁇ m, even more preferably 15 to 50 ⁇ m, and particularly preferably 15 to 40 ⁇ m. By keeping the film thickness within the above range, it is possible to prevent a decrease in film formation accuracy.
- the stretching, dyeing, and treating with a boron compound such as this polyvinyl alcohol film (unstretched film)
- the stretching, dyeing, and boron compound treatment may be carried out separately or simultaneously, but it is preferable to carry out uniaxial stretching during at least one of the dyeing and boron compound treatment steps.
- the stretching is preferably performed 3 to 10 times in one axial direction, and more preferably 3.5 to 6 times. At this time, some stretching (stretching to the extent that shrinkage in the width direction or more) may also be performed in the direction perpendicular to the above.
- the temperature conditions during stretching are preferably selected from the range of 40 to 170°C. Furthermore, the stretching ratio need only be set in the above range, and the stretching operation may be performed not only in one stage, but in any range of stages in the manufacturing process.
- Dyeing of the film is carried out by contacting the film with a liquid containing iodine or a dichroic dye.
- a liquid containing iodine or a dichroic dye usually, an aqueous solution of iodine-potassium iodide is used, with an iodine concentration of 0.1-20 g/L, a potassium iodide concentration of 10-70 g/L, and a potassium iodide/iodine mass ratio of 10-100.
- a practical dyeing time is about 30-500 seconds.
- the treatment bath temperature is preferably 5-60°C.
- a small amount of an organic solvent compatible with water may be added. Any method of contact such as immersion, coating, spraying, etc. can be used.
- the dyed film is then treated with a boron compound.
- Practical boron compounds include boric acid and borax.
- the boron compound is used in the form of an aqueous solution or an aqueous-organic solvent mixture at a concentration of about 0.3 to 2 mol/L, and it is practical to have a small amount of potassium iodide coexist in the solution.
- the preferred treatment method is the immersion method, but coating and spraying methods are also possible.
- the treatment temperature is preferably about 40 to 70°C, and the treatment time is preferably about 2 to 20 minutes, and a stretching operation may be performed during treatment if necessary.
- the polarizing film thus obtained can also be used by laminating and adhering an optically isotropic polymer film or sheet to one or both sides as a protective film.
- protective films include films or sheets of cellulose triacetate, cellulose diacetate, polycarbonate, polymethyl methacrylate, polystyrene, polyethersulfone, polyarylene ester, poly-4-methylpentene, polyphenylene oxide, etc.
- a curable resin such as a urethane resin, an acrylic resin, or a urea resin can be coated and laminated on one or both sides of the polarizing film instead of the protective film.
- Such polarizing films may be used in practice by forming a transparent pressure-sensitive adhesive layer on one surface, if necessary, by a commonly known method.
- the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is particularly preferably made of a copolymer of an acrylic acid ester, such as butyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, methyl acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, etc., with an ⁇ -monoolefin carboxylic acid, such as acrylic acid, maleic acid, itaconic acid, methacrylic acid, crotonic acid, etc.
- any transparent pressure-sensitive adhesive can be used, such as polyvinyl ether-based or rubber-based adhesives.
- polarizing plate the one on which the pressure-sensitive adhesive is provided.
- functional layers include an anti-glare layer, a hard coat layer, an anti-reflection layer, a half-reflection layer, a reflective layer, a phosphorescent layer, a diffusion layer, an electroluminescent layer, a viewing angle widening layer, and a brightness improvement layer.
- an anti-glare layer and an anti-reflection layer for example, combinations of an anti-glare layer and an anti-reflection layer, a phosphorescent layer and a reflective layer, a phosphorescent layer and a half-reflection layer, a phosphorescent layer and a light diffusion layer, a phosphorescent layer and an electroluminescent layer, a half-reflection layer and an electroluminescent layer, etc.
- the combinations are not limited to these.
- Example 1 A foamed member (made of polyethylene) with a thickness of 10 mm, an expansion ratio of 10 (closed bubbles), and a 25% compressive stress of 35 kPa was prepared as a protective pad. An aluminum-based film (stretched polypropylene film/polyethylene film/aluminum foil (thickness 7 ⁇ m)/polyethylene film) was then layered on top of the protective pad as a packaging material to prepare a test specimen.
- Example 2 The test specimen was the same as that in Example 1, except that the thickness of the foam member used as the protective pad was 20 mm.
- Example 3 A test specimen was prepared by layering the same packaging material as in Example 1 on the same protective pad as in Example 1, and then layering another protective pad as in Example 1 on top of that.
- Example 1 A foamed member (made of polyethylene) having a thickness of 4 mm and a 25% compressive stress of 36 kPa was used as the protective pad. Other than that, the same specimen as in Example 1 was used.
- Example 3 A foamed member (made of polypropylene) having a thickness of 4 mm and a 25% compressive stress of 36 kPa was used as the protective pad. Other than that, the same specimen as in Example 3 was used as the test specimen.
- test specimens of the above examples and comparative examples were subjected to impact using a DuPont impact tester according to the following method to evaluate the damage resistance of the packaging material. The results are shown in Table 1 below. The configuration of each test specimen is also shown in Table 1.
- Example 4 (Preparation of polyvinyl alcohol film) A 5,000 L dissolver was charged with 1,000 kg of a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin having a weight average molecular weight of 123,000 and a saponification degree of 99.8 mol%, 3,000 kg of water, 115 kg of glycerin as a plasticizer, and 0.25 kg of sodium dodecylsulfonate as a surfactant, and the mixture was heated to 150° C. with stirring to carry out pressure dissolution, thereby obtaining an aqueous polyvinyl alcohol-based resin solution adjusted to a resin concentration of 29%.
- the aqueous polyvinyl alcohol resin solution was then fed to a twin-screw extruder having a vent and degassed, and the aqueous solution was then heated to 95° C., and discharged from a T-shaped slit die outlet into a casting mold rotating at 12 m/min to form a film.
- the film was then dried by alternately contacting the front and back surfaces of the film with a total of 15 heated rolls, and then heat-treated by blowing hot air at 95° C. onto both sides of the film.
- the obtained film was wound around a cylindrical aluminum core tube having a length of 340 cm and a diameter of 6 inches to obtain a film roll (film thickness 45 ⁇ m, width 3 m, length 5 km). At this time, when the end surface and the outer peripheral surface of the film roll were visually observed, no adhesion of dust, shavings, etc. was found.
- a foamed member made of polyethylene having a thickness of 10 mm, an expansion ratio of 10 times (closed bubbles), and a 25% compressive stress of 35 kPa was laminated to a 15 ⁇ m thick non-foamed resin sheet (made of polyethylene) (surface roughness of the non-foamed resin sheet after lamination: Ra 0.6 ⁇ m, surface roughness Ry 2.1 ⁇ m, surface roughness Rz 2.0 ⁇ m), and cut to fit the shape of the roll end face, to prepare two protective pads with non-foamed resin layers on both sides.
- the film roll wrapped with the water vapor barrier film was wrapped twice with an aluminum-based film (stretched polypropylene film/polyethylene film/aluminum foil (thickness 7 ⁇ m)/polyethylene film) as a wrapping material, and then the excess portion of the aluminum-based film in the width direction of the film roll was fixed to the core tube with adhesive tape to complete the wrapping (see FIG. 1 ).
- the protruding portion of the core tube was placed on a stand, and the film roll was suspended in the air without touching the ground.
- This packaging form corresponds to the test specimen of Example 1 in that a set of protective pads was attached.
- the resulting film roll packaging was stored for 7 days, and then transported by land and sea for 10 days following the specified route. After transportation, the appearance of the aluminum-based film packaging material was checked and no damage was found. Next, the packaging material was removed from the film roll and the appearance of the polyvinyl alcohol-based film was visually checked, and almost no dust, residue, etc. was found to be attached to the end faces or outer circumference of the film roll.
- Example 5 Two pairs of protective pads (four in total) were prepared, each pair being the same as in Example 4. One pair of protective pads was attached with the non-foamed resin layer side facing the end face of the film roll, and then the outer periphery of the film roll was wrapped and packaged with a water vapor barrier film (made of polyethylene, thickness 30 ⁇ m, moisture permeability 7 g/ m2 /day) as the second packaging material. The remaining portion of the water vapor barrier film in the width direction of the film roll was then fixed to the core tube with a rubber band.
- a water vapor barrier film made of polyethylene, thickness 30 ⁇ m, moisture permeability 7 g/ m2 /day
- the film roll wrapped with the water vapor barrier film was wrapped twice with an aluminum-based film (stretched polypropylene film/polyethylene film/aluminum foil (thickness 7 ⁇ m)/polyethylene film) as a wrapping material, and then another set of protective pads was attached from above the aluminum-based film with the non-foamed resin layer side facing the end face side of the film roll.
- the remaining portion of the aluminum-based film in the width direction of the film roll was then fixed to the core tube with adhesive tape to complete the packaging.
- the protruding portion of the core tube was placed on a stand, and the film roll was suspended in the air without touching the ground.
- This packaging form corresponds to the test specimen of Example 3 in that two sets of protective pads were used on the inside and outside of the packaging material.
- the film roll packaging defined in the present invention can suppress damage to the packaging material during storage and transportation, and further suppresses adhesion of dust, shavings, etc. to the polyvinyl alcohol-based film. Therefore, it is possible to use the polyvinyl alcohol-based film in a higher level clean room, and it is possible to reduce breakage when the polyvinyl alcohol-based film is uniaxially stretched. It is also found that it is possible to suppress deterioration of optical properties when the polyvinyl alcohol-based film is processed into a polarizing film or a polarizing plate.
- the film roll packaging of the present invention can prevent damage to the packaging material of the film roll during storage and transportation, and can also sufficiently prevent damage and contamination of the film roll, even when the film roll is used in a clean room. This makes it useful as a technology for maintaining the quality of the polyvinyl alcohol film wound into the film roll in good condition without compromising it.
