In the following description various specific details are illustrated aimed at a thorough understanding of examples of one or more embodiments. The embodiments can be implemented without one or more of the specific details, or with other methods, components, materials, etc. In other cases, known structures, materials, or operations are not shown or described in detail to avoid obscuring various aspects of the embodiments. The reference to “an embodiment” in the context of this description indicates that a particular configuration, structure or characteristic described in relation to the embodiment is included in at least one embodiment. Therefore, phrases such as “in an embodiment”, possibly present in
different places of this description do not necessarily refer to the same embodiment. Moreover, particular conformations, structures or characteristics can be combined in a suitable manner in one or more embodiments and/or associated with the embodiments in a different way from that illustrated here, for example, a characteristic here exemplified in relation to a figure may be applied to one or more embodiments exemplified in a different figure.
The references illustrated here are only for convenience and do not therefore delimit the field of protection or the scope of the embodiments.
In the attached drawings, the reference 1 indicates as a whole a motor-vehicle body comprising a plurality of structural nodes defined by the connection areas between the various sheet metal elements.
The reference 10 indicates one of said structural nodes, in particular the node H defined by the connection area between an A-pillar 2 of a side door structure of the body 1 and a front side portion 3 of the body 1 , the so- called mudguard portion. Again with reference to Figure 1 , it should be noted that the node H 10 corresponds to a lower angular resting area of the windshield glass of the motor-vehicle (not shown in the drawings).
Figure 2 illustrates an enlarged view of the motor-vehicle body, in particular of the node H. According to the present invention, the body 1 comprises an outer trim unit 5 mounted at the node H 10.
It should be noted that the attached drawings show a preferred embodiment of the outer trim unit 5 indicated above and of the relative mounting system on the body. These drawings must be considered purely by way of non-limiting example, since the shapes of the components may vary with respect to what is illustrated, without thereby departing from the scope of the present invention as defined in the attached claims.
The outer trim unit 5 is mounted at the node H 10, in particular on an end portion 4 of the A-pillar 2 adjacent to the lower corner of the windshield. The end portion 4 is substantially lowered with respect to the outer surface of the A-pillar 2, so as to define a seat 18 at which the outer trim unit 5 is applied.
The trim unit 5 has a substantially quadrangular shape having an upper transverse side 5' adjacent to the outer surface of the A-pillar 2, a lower transverse side 5" adjacent to the front side portion 3 (mudguard) of
the body 1 , two longitudinal sides 5"', wherein one of the longitudinal sides 5"' is adjacent to the windshield glass of the motor-vehicle.
The outer trim unit 5 is mounted to meet the style requirements, with no discontinuity between the outer trim unit 5 and the windshield glass of the motor-vehicle. It should therefore be noted that the outer trim unit 5 has a substantially regular and curved outer surface, to follow the conformation of the lower area of the A-pillar 2, avoiding aesthetic anomalies, such as unprofiling between the A-pillar 2, the front side portion 3 and the windshield glass.
Figures 3-6 illustrate additional characteristics of the trim unit 5, in particular a related mounting system for rigidly connecting the trim unit 5 to the body 1. This mounting system comprises an inner bracket 6 welded to the body 1 , in particular at the end portion 4 of the A-pillar 2. In the final assembled configuration shown in Figure 5, the bracket 6 is not visible from the outside, as it is covered by the trim unit 5.
The inner bracket 6 has a substantially irregularly shaped body with opposite ends defining respective side portions 7, and a central portion 8 welded to the body 1 by means of a pair of welding points 9 (illustrated in Figure 4). According to the example illustrated in the drawings, the side portions 7 are symmetrical with respect to a central axis of symmetry of the bracket 6 and have rounded end edges. The reference 11 indicates reference holes respectively obtained on the side portions 7 of the bracket 6, at the sides of the welded central portion 8. The reference holes 11 are arranged to refer the bracket 6 to the correct position, prior to welding on the body. With reference to the illustrated example, the reference holes 11 are quadrangular in shape, to receive respective reference pins integrated into the body 1. Thanks to these characteristics, correct welding of the bracket 6 is guaranteed, without positioning errors on the body 1 .
The side portions 7 of the bracket 6 are raised with respect to the welded central portion 8, and therefore, to the seat 18, so as to create a space between the sheet metal element of the body 1 defining the seat 18 and the side portions 7 of the bracket 6. According to a characteristic of the invention, this space is arranged to carry out a preliminary coupling of the trim unit 5 to the bracket 6, prior to the definitive connection in position of the trim unit 5. In this regard, the trim unit 5 comprises respective protruding
fins 12, from the outer surface of the trim unit 5 towards the bracket 6, hooked to a respective side portion 7 of the bracket 6 (Figure 6). With reference to the illustrated embodiment, the protruding fins 12 have a substantially C-shaped cross-section for mutual engagement with the side portions 7 of the bracket 6.
With reference to Figures 5, 6, the trim unit 5 also comprises at least one fastening portion 13 for connection to at least one respective fastening point 20 obtained on the body 1 . The fastening portion 13 is obtained on the inner side of the trim unit 5, so as not to be visible from the outside in the final assembled configuration. Said at least one respective fastening point 20 is obtained on the seat 18 near the bracket 6. In one or more embodiments, the fastening portion 13 comprises a pair of fastening pins
14 with parallel axes provided for coupling with respective fastening turrets
15 obtained on the body 1 .
In the light of what has been described above, the mounting system of the trim unit 5 according to the invention envisages sequentially:
- a preliminary coupling of the trim unit 5 to the bracket 6 welded to the end portion 4 of the A-pillar 2, by means of the mutual engagement between the fins 12 and the side portions 7 of the bracket 6;
- a roto-translation movement of the trim unit 5 hooked to the bracket 6, to align the fastening portion 13 of the trim unit 5 to the fastening area obtained on the body 1 ; and
- rigidly connecting the fastening portion 13 to the fastening points 2’ obtained on the body 1 .
Thanks to these characteristics, the trim unit 5 envisages a simple and intuitive mounting sequence, also guaranteeing reliability over time.
In one or more embodiments, the outer trim unit 5 comprises at least one gasket element 16 interfaced with the fastening portion 13, to adhere to the body 1 in the vicinity of the fastening points 20 on the body 1 , so as to prevent any entry of aqueous residues into the passenger compartment of the motor-vehicle.
According to a further characteristic illustrated in Figure 5, the trim unit 5 comprises an aesthetic gasket 17 applied substantially along the quadrangular perimeter of the unit 5, so as to further guarantee a continuous outer surface on the node H 10, without grooves or loops, as well as fulfilling
an acoustic absorption function.
Of course, without prejudice to the principle of the invention, the details of construction and the embodiments may vary with respect to those described and illustrated purely by way of example, without departing from the scope of the present invention, as defined by the attached claims.
