Description
本開示は、バナジウム酸化物およびそれを用いた電池に関する。
特許文献1は、Li3VO4を負極活物質として用いた非水二次電池を開示している。
特許文献2は、(Li[3-ax+(5-b)y]Ax)(V1-yBy)O4で表される負極活物質を用いた共焼成型全固体電池を開示している。ここで、Aは、Mg、Al、Ga、およびZnからなる群より選ばれる少なくとも1つの元素であり、Bは、Zn、Al、Ga、Si、Ge、P、およびTiからなる群より選ばれる少なくとも1つの元素である。xおよびyは、0≦x≦1.0および0≦y≦0.6をそれぞれ充足する。aは、Aの平均価数であり、bはBの平均価数である。
本開示は、電池材料として使用されうる新規のバナジウム酸化物を提供する。

(第1実施形態)
第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物は、
組成式(1):Li3+x+αV1-xMxO4+α/2
で表される。ここで、組成式(1)において、0.03<α<1.0、および、0≦x<1.0が満たされ、かつ、Mは、4価の金属元素からなる群より選択される少なくとも1つである。
第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物は、
組成式(1):Li3+x+αV1-xMxO4+α/2
で表される。ここで、組成式(1)において、0.03<α<1.0、および、0≦x<1.0が満たされ、かつ、Mは、4価の金属元素からなる群より選択される少なくとも1つである。
第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物は、電池材料として使用されうる。第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物は、例えば負極活物質として使用されうる。第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物は、例えば、優れた充放電特性を有する電池を得るために用いられうる。第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物は、例えば、電池容量を向上させるのに適している。電池の例は、全固体電池である。全固体電池は、一次電池であってもよく、二次電池であってもよい。
組成式(1)において、0.03<α<1.0が満たされることにより、例えば、第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物を用いた電池の容量が向上する。これは、第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物へのLiの挿入脱離が容易になるためである。
組成式(1)においてαで示される量のLiおよびOは、バナジウム酸化物の粒子内に取り込まれていてもよいし、粒子外に、当該粒子を構成する第一相とは異なる第二相として存在していてもよい。特許文献1および2に開示されたバナジウム酸化物は、αで示される量に相当するLiおよびOを含まないことに留意せよ。
組成式(1)において、0.04≦α≦0.95が満たされてもよい。この構成によれば、第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物は、電池容量を向上させることができる。
組成式(1)において、0.06≦α≦0.93が満たされてもよい。この構成によれば、第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物は、電池容量を向上させることができる。
組成式(1)において、0.1≦α≦0.6が満たされてもよい。この構成によれば、第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物は、電池容量をさらに向上させることができる。
組成式(1)において、0.14≦α≦0.57が満たされてもよい。この構成によれば、第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物は、電池容量をさらに向上させることができる。
組成式(1)におけるαの範囲の上限値および下限値は、0.03超(すなわち、0.03<α)、0.04、0.06、0.1、0.14、0.24、0.25、0.32、0.57、0.6、0.93、0.95、および1.0未満(すなわち、α<1.0)の数値から選択される任意の組み合わせによって規定されてもよい。
組成式(1)において、0<x<1.0が満たされてもよい。この構成によれば、第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物は、電池容量を向上させることができる。
組成式(1)において、0<x≦0.1が満たされてもよい。この構成によれば、第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物は、電池容量をさらに向上させることができる。
組成式(1)におけるxの範囲の上限値および下限値は、0超(すなわち、0<x)、0.05、0.1、および1.0未満(すなわち、x<1.0)の数値から選択される任意の組み合わせによって規定されてもよい。
組成式(1)において、xが上記範囲を満たす場合、第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物へのLiの挿入脱離がさらに容易になる。このため、上述のとおり、第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物は、電池容量を向上させることができる。
上述の通り、Mは、4価の金属元素から選択される少なくとも1つである。4価の金属元素の例は、Ti、Zr、Si、Ge、またはSnである。
組成式(1)において、Mは、Tiを含んでいてもよい。この構成によれば、第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物は、電池容量を向上させることができる。Mは、Tiであってもよい。
第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物の形状は、限定されない。当該形状の例は、針状、球状、および楕円球状である。第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物は、粒子状であってもよい。第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物は、ペレットまたは板の形状を有するように形成されてもよい。
第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物が粒子状(例えば、球状)である場合、当該バナジウム酸化物の粒子は、0.1μm以上かつ100μm以下のメジアン径を有していてもよいし、0.5μm以上かつ10μm以下のメジアン径を有していてもよい。これにより、第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物および他の材料が良好に分散し得る。他の材料とは、例えば、固体電解質である。
粒子のメジアン径は、体積基準の粒度分布における体積累積50%に相当する粒径(d50)を意味する。体積基準の粒度分布は、レーザー回折測定装置または画像解析装置により測定されうる。
<バナジウム酸化物の製造方法>
第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物は、下記の方法により、製造されうる。

目的の組成を有するように、原料粉が用意される。原料粉の例は、酸化物、水酸化物、炭酸塩、硝酸塩、または有機塩である。
一例として、組成式(1):Li3+x+αV1-xMxO4+α/2で表されるバナジウム酸化物において、MがTiであり、原料混合時のxが0.05であると仮定する。まずは、αが0であるとして原料粉が準備される。例えば、Li2CO3、V2O5、およびTiO2が、Li2CO3:V2O5:TiO2=(3.05/2):(0.95/2):0.05のモル比で準備される。このようなモル比で準備された原料粉に対し、目的の組成におけるαの値を考慮して、Li源となる物質、例えばLi2CO3をさらに添加して原料粉を混合する。過剰に混合されるLi源の過剰分の量は、例えば、目的の組成におけるαの値、およびLi源として使用する物質等に応じて、適宜決定されうる。一例として、0.03<α<1.0を満たすバナジウム酸化物を製造するためには、Li源は、αが0であるとしてモル比が決定されたLi源の量に対し、例えば0.5質量%から40質量%の範囲で過剰に用いられてもよく、1質量%から30質量%の範囲で過剰に用いられてもよい。
Li2CO3の代わりに、水酸化リチウムまたはその水和物が用いられてもよい。
原料粉の混合物が焼成されることにより、反応物が得られる。焼成時の雰囲気は、大気でもよく、不活性ガス雰囲気でもよい。不活性雰囲気は、例えば、アルゴン雰囲気または窒素雰囲気である。
あるいは、原料粉の混合物を遊星型ボールミルのような混合装置内でメカノケミカル的に(メカノケミカルミリングの方法により)互いに反応させ、反応物を得てもよい。
これらの方法により、第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物が得られる。
ここで、原料混合時のモル比と、反応物のモル比とは必ずしも一致しない。これは、反応中に原料が蒸発等により反応物内に取り込まれないことがあるためである。
バナジウム酸化物の組成、例えば組成式(1)におけるxの値およびαの値は、例えば、高周波誘導結合プラズマ(ICP)発光分光分析法、原子吸光法、またはEPMA(Electron Probe Micro Analyzer)法により決定されうる。組成式(1)におけるxの値は、バナジウム酸化物における元素Mの量から求められうる。組成式(1)におけるαの値は、バナジウム酸化物におけるLiの量および元素Mの量から求められうる。

第2実施形態による電池は、正極、電解質層、および負極を備える。電解質層は、正極および負極の間に配置されている。負極は、第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物を含む。

電池1000は、正極201、電解質層202、および負極203を備える。電解質層202は、正極201および負極203の間に配置されている。
正極201は、正極活物質粒子204および固体電解質粒子100を含有する。

負極203は、負極活物質粒子205および固体電解質粒子100を含有する。
負極活物質粒子205は、第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物を含む粒子である。負極活物質粒子205は、第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物を主たる成分として含む粒子であってもよい。第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物を主たる成分として含む粒子とは、質量比で最も多く含まれる成分が第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物である粒子を意味する。負極活物質粒子205は、第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物からなる粒子であってもよい。
負極活物質粒子205は、0.1μm以上かつ100μm以下のメジアン径を有していてもよい。負極活物質粒子205が0.1μm以上のメジアン径を有する場合、負極203において、負極活物質粒子205および固体電解質粒子100が良好に分散し得る。これにより、電池の充放電特性が向上する。負極活物質粒子205が100μm以下のメジアン径を有する場合、負極活物質粒子205内のリチウム拡散速度が向上する。これにより、電池1000が高出力で動作し得る。
負極活物質粒子205は、固体電解質粒子100よりも大きいメジアン径を有していてもよい。これにより、負極活物質粒子205および固体電解質粒子100が良好に分散し得る。
電池1000のエネルギー密度および出力を向上させるために、負極203において、負極活物質粒子205の体積および固体電解質粒子100の体積の合計に対する負極活物質粒子205の体積の比は、0.30以上かつ0.95以下であってもよい。
電池1000のエネルギー密度および出力を向上させるために、負極203は、10μm以上かつ500μm以下の厚みを有していてもよい。
負極203に含まれる固体電解質粒子100は、硫化物固体電解質、ハロゲン化物固体電解質、酸化物固体電解質、または高分子固体電解質であってもよい。
本開示において、「硫化物固体電解質」は、硫黄を含有する固体電解質を意味する。「酸化物固体電解質」は、酸素を含有する固体電解質を意味する。酸化物固体電解質は、酸素以外のアニオン(ただし、硫黄アニオンおよびハロゲンアニオンは除く)を含有していてもよい。「ハロゲン化物固体電解質」は、ハロゲン元素を含有し、かつ、硫黄を含有しない固体電解質を意味する。ハロゲン化物固体電解質は、ハロゲン元素だけでなく、酸素を含有していてもよい。
硫化物固体電解質の例は、Li2S-P2S5、Li2S-SiS2、Li2S-B2S3、Li2S-GeS2、Li3.25Ge0.25P0.75S4、またはLi10GeP2S12である。
ハロゲン化物固体電解質の例は、LiaMebYcX6により表される化合物である。ここで、数式:a+mb+3c=6、およびc>0が充足される。Meは、LiおよびY以外の金属元素と半金属元素とからなる群より選択される少なくとも1つである。Xは、F、Cl、Br、およびIからなる群より選択される少なくとも一種の元素である。mの値は、Meの価数を表す。
「半金属元素」は、B、Si、Ge、As、Sb、およびTeである。「金属元素」は、周期表第1族から第12族中に含まれるすべての元素(ただし、Hを除く)、および、周期表第13族から第16族に含まれるすべての元素(ただし、B、Si、Ge、As、Sb、Te、C、N、P、O、S、およびSeを除く)である。
ハロゲン化物固体電解質のイオン伝導度を高めるために、Meは、Mg、Ca、Sr、Ba、Zn、Sc、Al、Ga、Bi、Zr、Hf、Ti、Sn、Ta、およびNbからなる群より選択される少なくとも1つの元素であってもよい。

高分子固体電解質の例は、高分子化合物およびリチウム塩の化合物である。高分子化合物は、エチレンオキシド構造を有していてもよい。エチレンオキシド構造を有する高分子化合物は、リチウム塩を多く含有することができるため、より高いイオン導電率を有する。高分子固体電解質は、例えばポリエチレンオキシドおよびリチウム塩の複合化合物であってもよい。このような高分子固体電解質の例は、リチウムビス(トリフルオロメタンスルホニル)イミドである。
リチウム塩の例は、LiPF6、LiBF4、LiSbF6、LiAsF6、LiSO3CF3、LiN(SO2CF3)2、LiN(SO2C2F5)2、LiN(SO2CF3)(SO2C4F9)、またはLiC(SO2CF3)3である。これらから選択される1種のリチウム塩が単独で使用されてもよい。あるいは、これらから選択される2種以上のリチウム塩の混合物が使用されてもよい。
正極201は、リチウムイオンのような金属イオンを吸蔵および放出可能な材料を含有する。正極201は、例えば、正極活物質(例えば、正極活物質粒子204)を含有する。
正極活物質の例は、リチウム含有遷移金属酸化物、遷移金属フッ化物、ポリアニオン材料、フッ素化ポリアニオン材料、遷移金属硫化物、遷移金属オキシ硫化物、または遷移金属オキシ窒化物である。リチウム含有遷移金属酸化物の例は、Li(Ni,Co,Al)O2、Li(Ni,Co,Mn)O2、またはLiCoO2である。
本開示において、「(A,B,C)」は、「A、B、およびCからなる群より選択される少なくとも1つ」を意味する。
電池1000のコストおよび安全性の観点から、正極活物質としてリン酸リチウムが用いられてもよい。
正極活物質粒子204は、0.1μm以上かつ100μm以下のメジアン径を有していてもよい。正極活物質粒子204が0.1μm以上のメジアン径を有する場合、正極201において、正極活物質粒子204および固体電解質粒子100が良好に分散し得る。これにより、電池の充放電特性が向上する。正極活物質粒子204が100μm以下のメジアン径を有する場合、正極活物質粒子204内のリチウム拡散速度が向上する。これにより、電池1000が高出力で動作し得る。
正極活物質粒子204は、固体電解質粒子100よりも大きいメジアン径を有していてもよい。これにより、正極活物質粒子204および固体電解質粒子100が良好に分散し得る。
電池1000のエネルギー密度および出力を向上させるために、正極201において、正極活物質粒子204の体積および固体電解質粒子100の体積の合計に対する正極活物質粒子204の体積の比は、0.30以上かつ0.95以下であってもよい。
電極材料1100は、例えば、正極201に含まれる。電極活物質粒子206が固体電解質粒子100と反応するのを防ぐために、電極活物質粒子206の表面には、被覆層216が形成されてもよい。これにより、電池の反応過電圧の上昇を抑制できる。被覆層216に含まれる被覆材料の例は、硫化物固体電解質、酸化物固体電解質、高分子固体電解質、またはハロゲン化物固体電解質である。
被覆材料は、ハロゲン化物固体電解質材料または酸化物固体電解質材料であってもよい。ハロゲン化物固体電解質材料は、Fを含んでいてもよい。これにより、被服材料の高電位での安定性が向上する。このため、電池1000が高い充放電効率を有する。酸化物固体電解質は、高電位でも優れた安定性を有するニオブ酸リチウムまたはポリアニオン材料であってもよい。これにより、電池1000が高い充放電効率を有する。
電池1000のエネルギー密度および出力を向上させるために、正極201は、10μm以上かつ500μm以下の厚みを有していてもよい。
正極201に含まれる固体電解質粒子100は、硫化物固体電解質、ハロゲン化物固体電解質、酸化物固体電解質、高分子固体電解質、または有機ポリマー固体電解質であってもよい。
電解質層202は、電解質材料を含有する。当該電解質材料は、例えば、固体電解質材料である。電解質層202は、固体電解質層であってもよい。電解質層202に含まれる固体電解質材料は、硫化物固体電解質、ハロゲン化物固体電解質、または高分子固体電解質であってもよい。
電解質層202は、1μm以上かつ100μm以下の厚みを有していてもよい。電解質層202が1μm以上の厚みを有する場合、正極201および負極203が短絡しにくくなる。電解質層202が100μm以下の厚みを有する場合、電池1000が高出力で動作し得る。
正極201、電解質層202、および負極203からなる群より選択される少なくとも1つは、リチウムイオンの授受を容易にし、電池の出力特性を向上する目的で、非水電解液、ゲル電解質、またはイオン液体を含有していてもよい。
非水電解液は、非水溶媒および当該非水溶媒に溶けたリチウム塩を含む。非水溶媒の例は、環状炭酸エステル溶媒、鎖状炭酸エステル溶媒、環状エーテル溶媒、鎖状エーテル溶媒、環状エステル溶媒、鎖状エステル溶媒、またはフッ素溶媒である。環状炭酸エステル溶媒の例は、エチレンカーボネート、プロピレンカーボネート、またはブチレンカーボネートである。鎖状炭酸エステル溶媒の例は、ジメチルカーボネート、エチルメチルカーボネート、またはジエチルカーボネートである。環状エーテル溶媒の例は、テトラヒドロフラン、1,4-ジオキサン、または1,3-ジオキソランである。鎖状エーテル溶媒の例は、1,2-ジメトキシエタン、または1,2-ジエトキシエタンである。環状エステル溶媒の例は、γ-ブチロラクトンである。鎖状エステル溶媒の例は、酢酸メチルである。フッ素溶媒の例は、フルオロエチレンカーボネート、フルオロプロピオン酸メチル、フルオロベンゼン、フルオロエチルメチルカーボネート、またはフルオロジメチレンカーボネートである。これらから選択される1種の非水溶媒が単独で使用されてもよい。あるいは、これらから選択される2種以上の非水溶媒の混合物が使用されてもよい。
リチウム塩の例は、LiPF6、LiBF4、LiSbF6、LiAsF6、LiSO3CF3、LiN(SO2CF3)2、LiN(SO2C2F5)2、LiN(SO2CF3)(SO2C4F9)、またはLiC(SO2CF3)3である。これらから選択される1種のリチウム塩が単独で使用されてもよい。あるいは、これらから選択される2種以上のリチウム塩の混合物が使用されてもよい。リチウム塩の濃度は、例えば、0.5mol/リットル以上2mol/リットル以下の範囲にある。
ゲル電解質として、非水電解液を含浸させたポリマー材料が使用されうる。ポリマー材料の例は、ポリエチレンオキシド、ポリアクリルニトリル、ポリフッ化ビニリデン、ポリメチルメタクリレート、またはエチレンオキシド結合を有するポリマーである。
イオン液体に含まれるカチオンの例は、
(i)テトラアルキルアンモニウムまたはテトラアルキルホスホニウムのような脂肪族鎖状4級塩類、
(ii)ピロリジニウム類、モルホリニウム類、イミダゾリニウム類、テトラヒドロピリミジニウム類、ピペラジニウム類、またはピペリジニウム類のような脂肪族環状アンモニウム、または
(iii)ピリジニウム類またはイミダゾリウム類のような含窒素ヘテロ環芳香族カチオン、
である。
(i)テトラアルキルアンモニウムまたはテトラアルキルホスホニウムのような脂肪族鎖状4級塩類、
(ii)ピロリジニウム類、モルホリニウム類、イミダゾリニウム類、テトラヒドロピリミジニウム類、ピペラジニウム類、またはピペリジニウム類のような脂肪族環状アンモニウム、または
(iii)ピリジニウム類またはイミダゾリウム類のような含窒素ヘテロ環芳香族カチオン、
である。
イオン液体に含まれるアニオンの例は、PF6
-、BF4
-、SbF6
-、AsF6
-、SO3CF3
-、N(SO2CF3)2
-、N(SO2C2F5)2
-、N(SO2CF3)(SO2C4F9)-、またはC(SO2CF3)3
-である。
イオン液体はリチウム塩を含有してもよい。
正極201、電解質層202、および負極203からなる群より選択される少なくとも1つは、粒子同士の密着性を向上する目的で、結着剤を含有していてもよい。
結着剤の例は、ポリフッ化ビニリデン、ポリテトラフルオロエチレン、ポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン、アラミド樹脂、ポリアミド、ポリイミド、ポリアミドイミド、ポリアクリルニトリル、ポリアクリル酸、ポリアクリル酸メチルエステル、ポリアクリル酸エチルエステル、ポリアクリル酸ヘキシルエステル、ポリメタクリル酸、ポリメタクリル酸メチルエステル、ポリメタクリル酸エチルエステル、ポリメタクリル酸ヘキシルエステル、ポリ酢酸ビニル、ポリビニルピロリドン、ポリエーテル、ポリエーテルサルフォン、ヘキサフルオロポリプロピレン、スチレンブタジエンゴム、またはカルボキシメチルセルロースである。結着剤として、共重合体が使用されてもよい。当該結着剤の例は、テトラフルオロエチレン、ヘキサフルオロエチレン、ヘキサフルオロプロピレン、パーフルオロアルキルビニルエーテル、フッ化ビニリデン、クロロトリフルオロエチレン、エチレン、プロピレン、ペンタフルオロプロピレン、フルオロメチルビニルエーテル、アクリル酸、およびヘキサジエンからなる群より選択された2種以上の材料の共重合体である。上記の材料から選択された2種以上の混合物が使用されてもよい。
正極201および負極203から選択される少なくとも1つは、電子伝導性を高める目的で、導電助剤を含有していてもよい。
導電助剤の例は、
(i)天然黒鉛または人造黒鉛のようなグラファイト類、
(ii)アセチレンブラックまたはケッチェンブラックのようなカーボンブラック類、
(iii)炭素繊維または金属繊維のような導電性繊維類、
(iv)フッ化カーボン、
(v)アルミニウムのような金属粉末類、
(vi)酸化亜鉛またはチタン酸カリウムのような導電性ウィスカー類、
(vii)酸化チタンのような導電性金属酸化物、または
(viii)ポリアニリン、ポリピロール、またはポリチオフェンのような導電性高分子化合物、
である。低コスト化のために、上記(i)または(ii)の導電助剤が使用されてもよい。
(i)天然黒鉛または人造黒鉛のようなグラファイト類、
(ii)アセチレンブラックまたはケッチェンブラックのようなカーボンブラック類、
(iii)炭素繊維または金属繊維のような導電性繊維類、
(iv)フッ化カーボン、
(v)アルミニウムのような金属粉末類、
(vi)酸化亜鉛またはチタン酸カリウムのような導電性ウィスカー類、
(vii)酸化チタンのような導電性金属酸化物、または
(viii)ポリアニリン、ポリピロール、またはポリチオフェンのような導電性高分子化合物、
である。低コスト化のために、上記(i)または(ii)の導電助剤が使用されてもよい。
負極203は、負極活物質粒子205だけでなく、導電助剤207を含んでいてもよい。導電助剤207の材料の例は、上述の通りである。
導電助剤207は、負極活物質粒子205の表面の少なくとも一部を被覆していてもよい。これにより、導電助剤207および負極活物質粒子205の接触面積が大きくなる。その結果、電池抵抗が低下し、出力を高めることができる。
負極203において、負極活物質粒子205の体積および導電助剤207の体積の合計に対する導電助剤207の体積の比は、0.01以上かつ0.4以下であってもよい。
図2は、第2実施形態による電極材料1100の断面図を示す。図2に示される電極材料1100は、負極203に含有されてもよい。固体電解質粒子100が負極活物質(すなわち、電極活物質粒子206)と反応するのを防ぐために、電極活物質粒子206の表面には、被覆層216が形成されてもよい。これにより、電池が高い充放電効率を有する。したがって、負極203に含まれる第1実施形態によるバナジウム酸化物は、被覆材料によって被覆されていてもよい。
被覆層216に含まれる被覆材料の例は、硫化物固体電解質、酸化物固体電解質、高分子固体電解質、またはハロゲン化物固体電解質である。
硫化物固体電解質の例は、Li2S-P2S5である。酸化物固体電解質の例は、リン酸三リチウムである。高分子固体電解質の例は、ポリエチレンオキシドおよびリチウム塩の複合化合物である。このような高分子固体電解質の例は、リチウムビス(トリフルオロメタンスルホニル)イミドである。
第2実施形態による電池の形状の例は、コイン型、円筒型、角型、シート型、ボタン型、扁平型、または積層型である。
第2実施形態による電池は、例えば、正極形成用の材料、電解質層形成用の材料、および負極形成用の材料を準備し、公知の方法で、正極、電解質層、および負極がこの順で配置された積層体を作製することによって製造されてもよい。
以下、実施例および比較例を用いて、本開示がより詳細に説明される。実施例のバナジウム酸化物は、組成式(1):Li3+x+αV1-xMxO4+α/2で表すことができる。
(実施例1)
[バナジウム酸化物の作製]
原料粉としてLi2CO3(高純度化学研究所株式会社製 純度99.9%)、V2O5(高純度化学研究所株式会社製 純度99.9%)、およびTiO2(高純度化学研究所株式会社製 純度99.9%)が、Li2CO3:V2O5:TiO2=1.525:0.475:0.05のモル比となるように用意された。ただし、Li2CO3は、前記組成に対し1質量%分過剰に用意された。すなわち、上記のようにモル比が決定されたLi2CO3の質量に対し、1質量%分過剰になるように、Li2CO3が用意された。これらの原料粉が乳鉢中で混合されて、混合粉が得られた。得られた混合粉は、600℃で3時間、大気中で仮焼きされた。得られた仮焼き粉は、920℃で15時間、大気中で本焼きされた。仮焼きおよび本焼き共に、昇温速度は、毎分10℃、降温速度は、毎分5℃であった。このようにして、実施例1によるバナジウム酸化物が得られた。
[バナジウム酸化物の作製]
原料粉としてLi2CO3(高純度化学研究所株式会社製 純度99.9%)、V2O5(高純度化学研究所株式会社製 純度99.9%)、およびTiO2(高純度化学研究所株式会社製 純度99.9%)が、Li2CO3:V2O5:TiO2=1.525:0.475:0.05のモル比となるように用意された。ただし、Li2CO3は、前記組成に対し1質量%分過剰に用意された。すなわち、上記のようにモル比が決定されたLi2CO3の質量に対し、1質量%分過剰になるように、Li2CO3が用意された。これらの原料粉が乳鉢中で混合されて、混合粉が得られた。得られた混合粉は、600℃で3時間、大気中で仮焼きされた。得られた仮焼き粉は、920℃で15時間、大気中で本焼きされた。仮焼きおよび本焼き共に、昇温速度は、毎分10℃、降温速度は、毎分5℃であった。このようにして、実施例1によるバナジウム酸化物が得られた。
実施例1によるバナジウム酸化物において、組成式(1)におけるxは0.05であり、αは0.06であった。
xは、Ti量をICP発光分光分析装置(日立ハイテクサイエンス社製 PS3520VDDII)により分析することによって求められた。αは、Li量を原子吸光光度計(日立ハイテクノルジーズ社製 Z―2300)により分析し、その結果とTi量(すなわち、xの値)の結果とによって求められた。
[電池の作製]
-60℃以下の露点を有するアルゴン雰囲気中で、実施例1によるバナジウム酸化物および固体電解質Li3PS4が、60:40の体積比率で用意された。これらの材料はメノウ乳鉢中で混合された。このようにして、負極混合物が得られた。
-60℃以下の露点を有するアルゴン雰囲気中で、実施例1によるバナジウム酸化物および固体電解質Li3PS4が、60:40の体積比率で用意された。これらの材料はメノウ乳鉢中で混合された。このようにして、負極混合物が得られた。
9.5mmの内径を有する絶縁性の筒の中で、固体電解質Li3PS4(80mg)および負極混合物(6.5mg)が積層され、積層体が得られた。この積層体に360MPaの圧力が印加され、固体電解質層および負極が形成された。当該固体電解質層は、500μmの厚みを有していた。
次に、固体電解質層に、Li(厚さ:300μm)が積層された。この積層体に80MPaの圧力が印加され、正極が形成された。
次に、ステンレス鋼から形成された集電体が正極および負極に取り付けられ、当該集電体に集電リードが取り付けられた。
最後に、絶縁性フェルールを用いて、絶縁性の筒の内部が外気雰囲気から遮断され、当該筒の内部が密閉された。
以上により、実施例1による電池が得られた。なお、実施例1による電池は、負極を作用極とし、かつ正極を対極とする単極試験セルであり、負極の性能を試験するために用いられる。詳しくは、作用極には試験対象の負極が用いられ、対極には作用極の反応を賄うに十分な量の適切な活物質が用いられる。本試験セルでは、負極の性能を試験するものなので、金属Liが対極として用いられた。このような試験セルを用いて性能が試験された負極は、例えば、上述の実施形態において説明したような正極活物質、例えばLiを含有した遷移金属酸化物等を含む正極と組み合わせることによって、二次電池として使用されうる。
[充放電試験]
図3は、実施例1による電池の初期放電特性を示すグラフである。横軸は放電容量を表す。縦軸は電圧を表す。図3に示される結果は、下記の方法により測定された。

実施例1による電池を用いて、以下のように充放電試験が行われた。なお、上述のとおり、実施例1で作製された電池は単極試験セルであり、負極のハーフセルに相当する。したがって、実施例1は、負極にLiイオンが挿入されてハーフセルの電位が下がる方向を充電といい、電位が上がる方向を放電という。すなわち、実施例1での充電とは実質的には(すなわち、フルセルの場合には)放電であり、実施例1での放電とは実質的には充電である。
実施例1による電池が、25℃に維持された恒温槽に配置された。
電池の理論容量に対して0.1Cレート(10時間率)となる電流値で、0.3Vの電圧に達するまで、実施例1による電池が充電された。次に、0.05Cレートとなる電流値で、2.5Vの電圧に達するまで、実施例1による電池が放電された。
充放電試験の結果、実施例1による電池は、354mAh/gの初期放電容量を有していた。
(実施例2から7および比較例1)
[バナジウム酸化物の作製]
実施例2では、Li2CO3が5質量%分過剰に用意された。これ以外は実施例1と同様の方法で、実施例2のバナジウム酸化物が作製された。実施例1と同様の方法で組成式(1)におけるxおよびαの値を求めた。実施例2では、xは0.05であり、αは0.14であった。
[バナジウム酸化物の作製]
実施例2では、Li2CO3が5質量%分過剰に用意された。これ以外は実施例1と同様の方法で、実施例2のバナジウム酸化物が作製された。実施例1と同様の方法で組成式(1)におけるxおよびαの値を求めた。実施例2では、xは0.05であり、αは0.14であった。
実施例3では、Li2CO3が10質量%分過剰に用意された。これ以外は実施例1と同様の方法で、実施例3のバナジウム酸化物が作製された。実施例1と同様の方法で組成式(1)におけるxおよびαの値を求めた。実施例3では、xは0.05であり、αは0.24であった。
実施例4では、Li2CO3が15質量%分過剰に用意された。これ以外は実施例1と同様の方法で、実施例4のバナジウム酸化物が作製された。実施例1と同様の方法で組成式(1)におけるxおよびαの値を求めた。実施例4では、xは0.05であり、αは0.57であった。
実施例5では、Li2CO3が30質量%分過剰に用意された。これ以外は実施例1と同様の方法で、実施例5のバナジウム酸化物が作製された。実施例1と同様の方法で組成式(1)におけるxおよびαの値を求めた。実施例5では、xは0.05であり、αは0.93であった。
実施例6では、Li2CO3およびV2O5が、Li2CO3:V2O5=1.5:0.5のモル比となるように用意された。ただし、Li2CO3は10質量%分過剰に用意された。これら以外は実施例1と同様の方法で、実施例6のバナジウム酸化物が作製された。実施例1と同様の方法で組成式(1)におけるxおよびαの値を求めた。実施例6では、xは0であり、αは0.25であった。
実施例7では、Li2CO3、V2O5、およびTiO2が、Li2CO3:V2O5:TiO2=1.55:0.45:0.1のモル比となるように用意された。ただし、Li2CO3は10質量%分過剰に用意された。これら以外は実施例1と同様の方法で、実施例7のバナジウム酸化物が作製された。実施例1と同様の方法で組成式(1)におけるxおよびαの値を求めた。実施例7では、xは0.1であり、αは0.32であった。
比較例1では、過剰なLi2CO3を加えなかった。これ以外は実施例1と同様の方法で、比較例1のバナジウム酸化物が作製された。実施例1と同様の方法で組成式(1)におけるxおよびαの値を求めた。比較例1では、xは0.05であり、αは0.03であった。
[充放電試験]
実施例1と同様にして、実施例2から8および比較例1によるバナジウム酸化物を負極に用いた電池が作製され、実施例1と同様にして、初期放電容量が測定された。測定結果は、表1に示される。
実施例1と同様にして、実施例2から8および比較例1によるバナジウム酸化物を負極に用いた電池が作製され、実施例1と同様にして、初期放電容量が測定された。測定結果は、表1に示される。
(考察)
表1から明らかなように、組成式(1)で表されるバナジウム酸化物を活物質に用いた電池は、高い放電容量を有していた。
表1から明らかなように、組成式(1)で表されるバナジウム酸化物を活物質に用いた電池は、高い放電容量を有していた。
比較例1と実施例1から5を比較すると明らかなように、αが0.03より大きい場合、高い放電容量を実現できた。
比較例1と実施例1から7を比較すると明らかなように、xが0.05以外でも、αが0.03より大きい場合、高い放電容量を実現できた。すなわち、xが0であっても、αが0.03より大きい場合、高い放電容量を実現できた。
なお、Tiに代えて、他の4価の金属元素からなる群より選択される少なくとも1つをMとして用いた場合にも、同様の効果が期待できる。これは、価数がTiと同じ4である元素は、Tiと似た性質をもつためである。
以上のように、本開示によるバナジウム酸化物は、優れた充放電特性を有する電池を提供するために適切である。
本開示のバナジウム酸化物は、電池材料として、例えば、全固体リチウムイオン二次電池の材料として利用される。

- 組成式(1):Li3+x+αV1-xMxO4+α/2で表され、
