Definitions
- the present invention relates to magneto-rheological fluids and mechanical devices. More particularly, the present invention relates to a magneto-rheological fluid and a mechanical device used to control the frictional force acting between objects in various mechanical devices such as brakes, clutches, vibration dampers, and dampers of vibration control devices.
- a magneto-rheological (MR) fluid is a fluid in which magnetic particles, which are magnetizable metal particles, are dispersed in a dispersion medium.
- a magneto-rheological fluid has magnetic particles randomly suspended in a dispersion medium when no magnetic field acts, and functions as a fluid. On the other hand, when a magnetic field is applied, the magnetic particles form many clusters and thicken, increasing the internal stress.
- magneto-rheological fluid functions like a rigid body due to the increased internal stress described above, and exhibits drag against shear flow and pressure flow. Because of these properties, magneto-rheological fluids are used to control the frictional force acting between objects in various mechanical devices such as brakes, clutches, vibration dampers, and dampers of vibration control devices.
- the resistance at the time of excitation when a magnetic field is applied to the magneto-rheological fluid (at the time of excitation), it is preferable that the resistance against the shear flow and the pressure flow (hereinafter also referred to as "the resistance at the time of excitation") is large.
- the resistance during excitation is evaluated by measuring the torque value, viscosity, shear stress, or the like.
- the drag force during excitation is evaluated by measuring the viscosity during excitation.
- various mechanical devices such as brakes, clutches, vibration isolators, dampers of vibration control devices, etc., since the frictional force acting between objects is stabilized, the resistance during excitation should be excellent in stability over time.
- Patent Document 1 proposes a magneto-rheological fluid in which predetermined amounts of magnetic particles, a clay mineral-based dispersion stabilizer, and a surfactant are contained in a carrier fluid.
- the magneto-rheological fluid described in Patent Document 1 is unsatisfactory due to its small drag when excited. In addition, this magneto-rheological fluid was not satisfactory in terms of stability over time of the drag force during excitation. Thus, the development of a magneto-rheological fluid that has good resistance during excitation and temporal stability of the resistance is eagerly awaited.
- the present invention has been made with a focus on the above points, and aims to provide a magneto-rheological fluid and a mechanical device that have good resistance during excitation and temporal stability of the resistance.
- the present invention is specified as follows [1] to [8].

Abstract
