- FIG. 2 shows the relationship between the type of resin, the wavelength of ultraviolet rays, and the penetration depth.
- the penetration depth of ultraviolet rays is defined as follows. First, a resin film having a predetermined thickness is irradiated with ultraviolet rays, and the amount of transmitted ultraviolet rays is measured with an absorptiometer. As a result, the attenuation rate of the light intensity with respect to the distance that the ultraviolet rays pass through the resin film can be known. From the attenuation rate, the distance at which the light intensity of ultraviolet light is attenuated by 90% was calculated, and this distance was defined as the penetration depth of ultraviolet light into the resin.
- ultraviolet light having a main emission wavelength of 190 nm to 240 nm which is considered safe for humans, is applied.
- the shorter the wavelength band of the main peak wavelength the shallower the penetration depth of the ultraviolet rays into the resin.
- ultraviolet rays having a main peak wavelength of 240 nm or less more preferably ultraviolet rays having a main peak wavelength of 235 nm or less, and further, using ultraviolet rays having a main peak wavelength of 230 nm or less. is desirable.
- the ultraviolet rays By using the ultraviolet rays, the antibacterial resin molded article 1 can be safely sterilized even in the presence of people, and discolored parts and deteriorated parts can be kept on the surface layer of the resin. This enhances ease of maintenance, which will be described later.
- the inventors of the present invention have found that resins are discolored when irradiated with ultraviolet rays, but when resins are irradiated with ultraviolet rays with a wavelength of 190 to 280 nm, only the surface layer near the surface is discolored by ultraviolet rays in the wavelength range. Found it. In addition, it was found that in any resin, the position relatively shallower than the depth that the ultraviolet rays reach tends to discolor, and only the vicinity of the surface layer tends to discolor. Therefore, it was found that by removing the surface layer in the vicinity of the surface of a resin discolored by ultraviolet rays in the wavelength band of 190 to 280 nm, it is possible to restore the original color of the resin.
- FIG. 3 is a diagram schematically showing an example of a maintenance method for the antibacterial resin molded article 1.
- the maintenance method of the present invention includes a step of removing the surface layer of the antibacterial resin molded product 1 .
- the color of the antibacterial resin molded product 1 discolored by being irradiated with ultraviolet rays can be recovered.
- a method for removing the surface layer of the antibacterial resin molded product 1 a method of removing the surface layer using a chemical or the like is conceivable, but a method of scraping off the surface layer by polishing is preferable. A method of scraping off the surface layer by polishing can relatively easily and safely remove the surface layer.
- a "surface layer” refers to the area
- the surface layer of the antibacterial resin molded article 1 is scraped off by wiping the surface of the antibacterial resin molded article 1 (toilet seat in this case) with a cleaner containing an abrasive. Abrasive-containing cleaner is applied to the polishing cloth 3 before use. If the antibacterial resin molded product 1 is a toilet seat, it is polished when discoloration becomes noticeable after several months or years. However, the toilet seat may be wiped with an abrasive cleaner during daily cleaning or before and after use. As a result, the toilet seat can be sterilized while suppressing discoloration of the toilet seat.
- the appropriate amount to scrape off varies depending on the resin, but it is preferable to scrape off the surface with a thickness of 0.1 to 0.5 mm. By scraping off within this range, the discolored region of the antibacterial resin molded article 1 can be appropriately removed. It is difficult to completely remove the discolored area of the antibacterial resin molded article 1 if the surface is scraped off to a thickness of less than 0.1 mm. Scraping off more than 0.5 mm thick from the surface may damage the gloss of the surface of the antibacterial resin molded article 1 and the original design state.
- abrasive is not particularly limited, but the abrasive must be harder than the antibacterial resin that is irradiated with ultraviolet rays.
- abrasives include diamond, cubic boron nitride, silicon carbide, aluminum oxide, white alumina, zirconia, and the like.
- the abrasive has a count of 3,000 to 100,000, preferably 5,000 to 50,000, more preferably 6,000 to 17,000. If the number is smaller than 3000, the surface of the antibacterial resin molded product 1 is roughened and loses its luster. If the number is greater than 100000, the amount to be scraped off is too small, and it takes too much time to scrape off the entire discolored area.
- the toilet seat and lid of the toilet bowl are exemplified as the antibacterial resin molded product, but the product is not limited to this. Interior items such as tables and shelves may also be used as the antibacterial resin molded product.
- the sterilization method and maintenance method of the present invention can be applied to any antibacterial resin molded article as long as it is molded from an antibacterial resin.
