Definitions
- the invention relates to a vehicle seat provided with an on-board safety system.
- X is a longitudinal front-rear axis of the vehicle directed towards the rear
- Y is a transverse axis directed towards the right of the vehicle
- Z is a vertical axis directed upwards.
- Some existing seats already include simple airbags placed on each side of the seat in addition to that arranged in the dashboard, therefore with a performance complementary to that of the airbag arranged in the dashboard.
- these airbags require having a predetermined positioning of the seat relative to the dashboard, which is a constraint in the case of vehicles autonomous, for which the seats of the passenger occupants are required to move or pivot with great amplitude.
- a seat belt system In order to make these seats completely autonomous in terms of safety, in the context of autonomous vehicles for example, a seat belt system is completely integrated into them.
- a complete integration of a seat belt and a complete and sophisticated airbag system in such seats is complicated, because the seat belt must not interfere unfavorably with the airbag system at the risk of disturbing or even to prevent the deployment of the latter during an accidental impact of the vehicle against an external obstacle.
- a seat according to the invention comprises a high-performance airbag capable of effectively protecting an individual who would be seated on said seat in the event of an impact of the vehicle against an external obstacle, and an equally effective safety belt system with respect to screw of this individual, said airbag and said safety belt system being completely integrated in said seat without interfering with each other to the point of mutually distorting their function.
- the subject of the invention is a vehicle seat comprising a backrest structure, a seat structure having an anti-submarining hump, and an airbag having two components placed on the sides of said seat on either side of a individual who would sit on it.
- each component of the airbag comprises an inflatable bag and at least one strap sewn to said bag, said component being able to deploy towards the front of the seat in the event of a vehicle impact, so that said components are brought to completely surround the individual,
- said at least one strap of each component has a high attachment point to an upper zone of the backrest structure and a low attachment point to the anti-submarining hump of the seat structure, and said at least one strap of each component running along one side of the backrest structure and along one side of the seat structure,
- the backrest structure comprises a cushion and a rigid shell enclosing said cushion while being open at the front, so that said at least one strap of each component passes on one side of the backrest structure between said cushion and said rigid shell
- the seat comprising a safety belt entirely integrated therein and provided with a retractor fixed to the structure of the backrest and placed inside a housing delimited by a front casing located in an upper zone of said backrest structure, the rigid shell at least partially covering said front casing, leaving a space between them to allow the passage of said at least one strap of one of the two components in the upper zone of the backrest structure, said shell delimiting said housing at the rear.
- the airbag implemented in a seat comprises two components arranged on either side of an individual who would be seated on said seat, said two components being caused to deploy each forward in the case from an impact of the vehicle to completely envelop this individual.
- each of its components comprises an inflatable bag and at least one strap sewn to this bag, said at least one strap allowing:
- the rigid shell enclosing a part of the backrest makes it possible to retain against the cushion, said at least one strap of each component of the airbag, and also allows the airbag in the inflation phase to deploy towards the front of the backrest so that the two components of the airbag can completely envelop an individual who is seated on said seat.
- a seat according to the invention is that it comprises a seat belt which is completely integrated therein, and which comprises a retractor intended to tension the seat belt during an impact of the vehicle against an external obstacle.
- the shell of the backrest extends as far as the housing of the seat belt containing the retractor, covering it at least partially.
- This shell is placed around said casing, leaving therewith a space for the passage of said at least one strap of one of the two components of the airbag.
- the said at least a strap is therefore placed around the casing housing the retractor. In this way, in the event of a vehicle accident, said at least one strap can be deployed forward of the seat simultaneously with the bag in the inflation phase, without being disturbed by the presence of the retractor. Similarly, by being placed above the casing housing the belt retractor, said at least one strap will not prevent the seat belt from exercising its retaining function on said seat.
- a seat comprises: a fully integrated and particularly efficient airbag, being able to completely envelop a passenger who would be seated on said seat in the event of an accident, and
- the shell comprises a rear wall intended to be placed against a rear surface of the cushion, two side edges intended to be placed against two side edges of the cushion by enclosing said at least one strap of each component and an upper edge intended to be placed on the front casing enclosing the retractor of the seat belt, creating a passage for said at least one strap of one of the two components in the upper zone of the backrest structure.
- This shell makes it possible, on the one hand, to cover on the sides of the backrest and in an upper zone thereof said at least one strap of each component of the airbag despite the presence of the front casing housing the belt retractor, and on the other hand, to ensure the deployment of said straps forwards when the bag of the airbag is in the inflation phase.
- the shell is also intended to completely cover said at least one strap of each component of the airbag, to improve the visual rendering of the seat.
- the front seat belt cover comprises a groove intended for the passage of said at least one strap of one of the two components, the shell comprising a flat segment covering said groove in which said said at least one strap.
- This groove makes it possible to maintain said at least one strap on the front casing, by limiting the possibilities of sliding of said at least one strap on the latter.
- the width of the groove is slightly greater than that of said at least one strap so that said at least one strap is placed in said groove while inducing a minimum of play.
- the groove performs a good function of maintaining said at least one strap of one of the components of the airbag, while allowing said strap to be able to move therein.
- the strap is thus not stuck in the groove and can deploy easily in the event of a vehicle accident.
- a minimum clearance means a clearance of a few millimeters up to 1cm.
- the backrest comprises a main surface, against which the back of an occupant is intended to bear, and two side uprights bordering said main surface and intended to laterally support the back of this occupant, the front casing being located in an upper zone of one of the two side uprights.
- This front casing is eccentric on the seat and therefore does not risk coming to bear against an individual who would be seated on said seat. This individual will not be inconvenienced by the presence of this front casing, and will therefore be able to easily manipulate the strand of the seat belt coming out of this casing.
- the side upright in which the front casing is located has been shortened beforehand so that the total length of said upright and of said front casing is equal to the total length of the other upright.
- the housing does not create a protrusion, which would be likely to interfere with an individual who would be seated on the seat, and which would degrade the aesthetics of the vehicle.
- the seat equipped with the box thus presents a visual symmetry, leaving no one to guess that it includes an electric roller.
- the front casing has a front face having an opening to allow a strand of the seat belt to come out of said front casing forwards.
- the opening is in the form of a cross, comprising a slot whose length is greater than the width of the safety belt strand emerging from the front casing to allow said strand to emerge from said slot.
- a slot is a discreet and inconspicuous opening, leaving little play with the side of the seat belt passing through it. In this way, the front cover will not be easily clogged with dust from outside the seat.
- the cross comprises a vertical secondary slot opening into the slot, to allow the seat belt to be inserted into the casing during assembly of the seat.
- the front casing is closed so that the motorized retractor of the seat belt is not visible from outside the seat.
- the expression “the casing is closed” means that it has no opening other than that formed by the cross.
- Another object of the invention is a vehicle comprising at least one seat in accordance with the invention.
- a vehicle seat according to the invention has the advantage of having an enveloping airbag, intended to ensure in a fully effective and self-sufficient manner the safety of a passenger who would be seated on said seat, without having undergone an in-depth restructuring. Indeed, a judicious assembly of the airbag on the seat by means of a limited number of parts and of simple design, is enough to make said seat particularly efficient in terms of safety. It follows that a seat according to the invention can allow the reuse of existing parts, without requiring in-depth modifications of said seat.
- a seat according to the invention also has the advantage of completely integrating a safety belt, the particular assembly of which prevents said belt from interfering with the components of the airbag.
- a seat according to the invention is particularly but not exclusively suitable for an autonomous vehicle, because it carries with it all the safety elements allowing the safeguarding of a passenger who would be seated on said seat.

- FIG. 20 shows a front view of an upper zone of a backrest of a seat according to the invention showing a front face of a box intended to house an electric seat belt retractor.
- a seat 1 according to the invention is preferably a passenger seat conventionally comprising a seat 2 provided with a structure and a backrest 3 also provided with a structure.
- a first feature of such a seat 1 is that it incorporates an airbag 4, intended to replace the passenger airbag usually housed in a dashboard of the vehicle, just in front of the passenger seat.
- this airbag 4 comprises two separate components 5, 6, each comprising an inflatable bag 7 and two straps 8, 9 sewn to this inflatable bag 7.
- the two components 5, 6 of this airbag 4 are stored in the seat 1, of each side 10, 11 thereof, so that they are placed on either side of an individual who would be seated on said seat 1.
- these two components 5, 6 surround an individual who would be seated on said seat 1 and are aligned along a transverse axis Y of the vehicle in which said seat 1 would be mounted.
- These two components 5, 6 being substantially identical, we will describe for the rest of the description only one of these components 5, 6.
- the two straps 8, 9 are superimposed and include a top attachment point to an upper 12 and central zone of the structure of the backrest 3, as well as a low attachment point to a central zone 13 of an anti-submarining hump 14 of the seat 2.
- the inflatable bag 7 is inserted into one side of the backrest 3, so as to not be visible from the outside of said seat 1.
- the two superposed straps 8, 9 extend between their top attachment point and their bottom attachment point, passing on the sides of the backrest 3 and on the sides of the seat 2 without ever being visible from the outside of said seat 1 .
- the two components 5, 6 of the airbag 4 deploy simultaneously forwards like the 'indicate the two arrows 15, 16 to completely encircle an individual who would be seated on the seat 1. Indeed, during this deployment the two inflated bags 7 of the two components 5, 6 come in continuity from one another to form a continuous protective bead around the individual.
- the deployment of each component 5, 6 of the airbag 4 is caused by the inflation of the inflatable bag 7 and is guided by the two straps 8, 9 which are sewn to said bag 7 and which are fixed both to the backrest structure 6 and to the seat structure 2.
- the two components 5, 6 of the airbag 4 can play their protective role perfectly, it is important to integrate them properly into the seat 1, so that they can deploy smoothly and efficiently in the desired direction, and without interfering with other elements of said seat. Indeed, it is not necessary that the integration of the two components 5, 6 of the airbag 4 in the seat 1 prevents for example the operation of a safety belt, or that the elements of the said seat 1 can harm the deployment of the said components 5, 6.
- a seat 1 according to the invention has a seat 2 specially configured to integrate the two components 5, 6 of the airbag 4.
- the seat structure 2 is schematically delimited by two parallel longitudinal edges extending along a longitudinal axis X of the vehicle, and by two parallel transverse edges extending along a transverse axis Y of said vehicle.
- each longitudinal edge of the seat structure 2 is materialized by an internal casing 17 and by an external casing 18.
- the internal casing 17 and the external casing 18 are thin parts. registering in a substantially vertical and longitudinal plane XZ of the vehicle.
- the two outer casings 18 represent the two outermost parts of the seat 2, each inner casing 17 being inserted between an outer casing 18 and a central zone of the seat 2 on which is intended to come and sit an individual.
- the outer casing 18 is elongated along a longitudinal axis X of the vehicle, and has a hollow zone 19, the inner casing 17 having a length less than that of the outer casing 18, the length being its dimension considered along a longitudinal axis X of the vehicle.
- the inner casing 17 has a curvature and is intended to come into contact with the wall of the outer casing 18 delimiting the hollow zone 19.
- the inner casing 17 once it has been pressed against an inner surface of the outer casing 18, cleaning with said outer casing 18 a passage through which pass the two superimposed straps 8, 9 of the component 5, 6 of the corresponding airbag 4.
- the inner casing 17 includes an opening 20 intended to receive a specific bo ier 21 to house either a seat belt buckle strand or an anchor of said seat belt.
- the two superimposed straps 8, 9 of the airbag 4 passing between the inner casing 17 and the outer casing 18 are external to said seat belt buckle strand and therefore do not risk interfering with the seat belt. security.
- said seat belt will not prevent the two superimposed straps 8, 9 of the airbag 4 from deploying during an impact of the vehicle against an external obstacle.
- the outer casing 18 has an end segment 22 extending perpendicularly to a main body 23 of said casing, said end segment 22 being found in the continuity of the folder 3 and being intended to mask the two superimposed straps 8, 9 of the airbag 4, between the said backrest 3 and the seat cushion 2 of the seat 1 .
- the two superimposed straps 8, 9 of the airbag 4 has a bend 24 at substantially 90°, that is to say at 90° plus or minus 10°.
- This prior 90° bend is necessary precisely to prevent the appearance of a bend which could prove dangerous during the deployment of the two superimposed straps 8, 9 of the airbag 4.
- the deployment conditions of the two superimposed straps 8, 9 of the airbag 4 in the seat 1 are such that the prior 90° bend will disappear, to give way to smooth and uniform airbag straps 8, 9, and therefore devoid of the slightest bend, as shown in Figure 2.
- the back 3 of a seat 1 is adjustable in inclination. It is rotatably mounted around an axis of rotation 25 extending along a transverse axis Y of the vehicle and placed in a lower zone of the backrest structure 3. As they pass over the sides of the backrest 3 and on the sides of the seat 2 the two superimposed straps 8, 9 of a component 5, 6 of the airbag 4 pass through this axis of rotation 25. In other words, if said axis of rotation 25 were artificially extended on each side, the two superimposed straps 8, 9 of the airbag 4 would cross the artificial extensions of said axis of rotation 25.
- the two superimposed straps 8, 9 of the airbag 4 do not prevent rotation of said backrest 3 about said axis 25 to adjust its inclination.
- the two superimposed straps 8, 9 of the airbag 4 cover a mechanism for rotating and positioning the backrest 3 usually placed in the extension of the axis of rotation 25 of the backrest 3, preventing any manipulation of this mechanism. .
- a control element 26 of this mechanism 27 has been created, then placed in a front zone of one of the two outer casings 18 of the seat 2 of seat 1.
- This control element is constituted by a handle 26 extending by default along a longitudinal axis X and horizontal of the vehicle, said handle 26 connecting the mechanism 27 for rotating and positioning the backrest 3 by means of a wire 28.
- This wire 28 is hidden by the outer casing 18, and manual rotation of the control handle 26 exerts tension on the wire 28 which acts directly on the mechanism 27 in order to be able to adjust the inclination of the backrest 3.
- control button 29 is a push button 29 which is fixed in the outer casing 18 supporting the control handle 26, said push button 29 being placed behind said handle 26.
- a rigid angle transmission wire 30 is fixed to the seat structure 2 inside an internal casing 17, so as to improve the positioning of the two superimposed straps 8, 9 of the airbag 4 in the passage located between the inner casing 17 and the outer casing 18.
- the two superposed straps 8, 9 of the airbag 4 pass around this rigid wire 30 by coming to rest against the latter , to form a bend, said rigid wire 30 straightening the two superimposed straps 8.9 of the airbag so that they fit in an optimized manner in the passage created between the inner casing 17 and the outer casing 18.
- this rigid wire 30 extends the straightness of the two superposed straps 8, 9 of the airbag 4 in the passage located between the internal casing 17 and the external casing 18.
- the inflatable bag 7 and a section of superimposed straps 8, 9 sewn to said bag 7 are placed in the backrest 3 of the seat 1.
- the coverings of the backrest 3 have been modified to allow the two superimposed straps 8, 9 and the bag 7 to be quickly released in the desired direction, that is to say towards the front of the seat 1, to encompass the passenger and avoid contact with the center pillar area of the vehicle body.
- a rigid rear shell 31 is pressed against a cushion 32 comprising the padding of the backrest 3 consisting of foam, and a textile enveloping said foam.
- This cushion 32 comprises a main wall 33 extended forwards by two parallel side edges 34, 35.
- the shell 31 has a main wall 36 extended forwards by two parallel side edges 37, 38 and by an upper edge 39. These two side edges 34, 35 are substantially perpendicular to the main wall 36, the upper edge 39 extending said main wall 36 being inclined with respect thereto.
- the shell 31 presses against the cushion 32 of the backrest 3 so that:
- FIG. be misleading because despite the presence of the two side edges 37, 38 of the shell 31 we still manage to visualize the two superimposed straps 8, 9 of a component 5, 6 of the airbag 4.
- said straps 8, 9 are visualized by transparency through a side upright 37, 38 of the shell 31.
- the inflatable bag 7 and the two superimposed straps 8, 9 of each component 5, 6 of the airbag 4 are housed between a side edge 34, 35 of the cushion 32 and a side edge 37, 38 of the shell 31.
- the superimposed straps 8, 9 are sewn on an outer side of the bag 7 and are therefore the first to be extracted from the backrest 3, even if they are linked to the bag 7, in the event of an impact of the vehicle against an external obstacle. .
- a second feature of a seat 1 according to the invention besides the fact that it fully integrates two high-performance components 5, 6 of an airbag 4, is that it fully integrates a safety belt safety 50.
- a seat belt for a passenger seat or a driver's seat usually includes an attachment point at a center pillar on a side of the body. For the production of a vehicle seat 1 according to the invention, this attachment point has been transferred to an upper and off-centre zone 51 of the backrest structure 3.
- the backrest 3 of a seat 1 comprises a main front surface 52 belonging to the main wall 33 of the cushion 32 and against which the back is intended to bear. of an occupant who would be seated on said seat 1, and the two side uprights 34, 35 of said cushion 32 bordering said main surface 52 being slightly inclined with respect thereto.
- these two side uprights 34, 35 designate the two side edges 34, 35 of the cushion 32 introduced before. In this way, these two side uprights 34, 35 are intended to laterally support the back of this occupant.
- one of the two side uprights 34, 35 was shortened to be able to integrate a hollow front casing 55 at one end of this side upright 34, 35, so that the total length of the shortened side upright 34, 35 and the hollow front casing 55 is equal to the total length of the other side upright 34, 35.
- the hollow front casing 55 is thus found in the upper zone 51 of the backrest structure 3, being offset with respect to the main front surface 52.
- the hollow front casing 55 constitutes an ideal extension of the shortened side upright 34, 35 at the end of which it was fixed, so that the overall geometry of the assembly formed by said shortened side upright 34, 35 and said shortened casing 55, is identical to the shape of the other side upright 34, 35.
- the backrest 3 of the seat 1 has perfect symmetry with respect to these two side uprights 34, 35.
- the front casing 55 has a rounded shape not having any protruding edges so as not to injure an occupant of the vehicle, nor degrade the aesthetics of the seat 1.
- the hollow front casing 55 delimits a housing which is intended to house an electric retractor 56 of the seat belt 50, and thus materializes the transfer of the attachment point of said seat belt 50 which takes place on the B-pillar of some more classic vehicles.
- This roller 56 is fixed to the structure of the backrest 3.
- the front casing 55 has a front face 57 provided with an opening in the shape of a cross comprising a slot 58 and a vertical secondary slot, said slot 58 being intended to pass a strand 59 of the seat belt 50, which is wound around the electric reel 56 placed in the casing 55 before.
- Slot 58 is substantially rectilinear and preferably extends in a horizontal direction.
- the vertical secondary slot opens into the horizontal slot 58, and allows the seat belt to be inserted in the front housing 55.
- the strand 59 of the seat belt 50 has a width which is less than the length of the slot 58, and can thus emerge from said slot 58 by limiting the clearances therewith, so as to stabilize the position of the strand 59 emerging of the hollow housing 55 and therefore to facilitate handling of the seat belt 50, 59. Thanks to the presence of the slot 58, the strand 59 of the seat belt will be able to descend along a side upright 34, 35 of the backrest 3, without ever interfering with the straps 8, 9 superimposed on a component 5, 6 of the airbag 4 passing between one of said side uprights 34, 35 of the cushion 32 and a side edge 37, 38 of the shell 31 .
- the upper edge 39 of the shell 31 is placed above and in contact with an upper wall 60 of the hollow casing 55 housing the electric retractor 56 of the seat belt 50
- This upper edge 39 delimits with the hollow front casing 55 the housing in which the retractor 56 is positioned. , 6 of the airbag 4.
- the width of this groove 61 is slightly greater than the width of said two superposed straps 8, 9 8, 9, so as to allow them to be housed in the groove 61 without causing meaningful games.
- the upper edge 39 of the shell 31 is sufficiently elongated to be able to just completely cover this groove 61, thus masking the presence of the two superimposed straps 8, 9 in the said groove 61 .
- This upper edge 39 of the shell 31, by covering this groove 61 as closely as possible, will allow said two superimposed straps 8, 9 housed in said groove 61, to come out of said groove 61 before being expelled forward from the backrest. 3 in the event of an accidental impact of the vehicle against an external obstacle. Indeed, during such an impact, the inflatable bag 7 of each component 5, 6 of the airbag 4 will inflate on leaving the backrest 3 forwards, carrying with it the two superimposed straps 8, 9 which are sewn to said bag 7. The two straps 8, 9 initially superimposed will deploy forward of the backrest 3 by separating, under the influence of the bag 7 which inflates.
- a vehicle seat according to the invention 1 therefore has the double particularity of: - possessing an airbag 4 in the form of two components 5, 6 each comprising at least two straps 8, 9 and an inflatable bag 7 on which said straps are sewn 8, 9.
- the two components 5, 6 of the airbag deploy forwards while being guided by the straps 8, 9, so that the two airbags 7 once deployed, form a continuous bead completely enveloping a person who would be seated on the seat 1 . Thanks to the presence of this continuous bead, this person will be protected with a maximum level of safety.
- the airbag 4 is completely integrated into the seat 1, -to fully integrate a seat belt 50 having an electric retractor 56 housed in a casing 55 placed in an upper zone 51 and off-center of the backrest 3.
- the seat 1 is designed so that the seat belt 50 does not hinder a potential deployment of the two components 5, 6 of the airbag 4 in the event of an impact of the vehicle against an external obstacle, and so that the straps 8, 9 of the airbag 4 do not interfere with the use and operation of the seat belt 50.
- Such a seat integrates a complete and autonomous protection system through the presence of the two components 5, 6 of the airbag and the safety belt 50, making it possible to ensure maximum protection for a person who would be seated on said seat and this, regardless of the positioning and orientation of this seat 1 within the vehicle.
