Definitions
- the present disclosure relates to connectors.
- Patent Document 1 discloses a connector that retains a terminal fitting inserted into a terminal accommodating chamber of a housing by the locking action of a lance.
- the lance protrudes forward in a cantilevered shape, it has low rigidity. If the housing is made smaller, the rigidity of the lance will be further reduced, and there is concern that it will easily come off the terminal fitting. Also, the front end of the lance is positioned to face the front opening of the housing. Therefore, there is concern that the lance may be deformed when foreign matter enters from the front of the housing and interferes with the lance.
- the connector of the present disclosure has been perfected based on the circumstances described above, and aims to improve the rigidity of the lance and prevent deformation.
- the connector of the present disclosure is a housing having a terminal receiving chamber; a terminal fitting inserted into the terminal accommodating chamber from the rear of the housing; a lance arranged to face the terminal accommodating chamber and configured to retain the terminal fitting in the terminal accommodating chamber; Both front and rear ends of the lance are connected to the housing, A front end support portion that supports the front end portion of the lance is located forward of the front end of the lance.
- FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the connector of Example 1 as viewed obliquely downward and forward.
- FIG. 2 is a side cross-sectional view of the connector.
- 3 is a partially enlarged sectional view of FIG. 2.
- FIG. 4 is a partially enlarged side cross-sectional view showing a state in which the lock by the lance is released by the release jig.
- FIG. 5 is a partially cutaway perspective view showing the shape of the front end of the lance.
- the connector of the present disclosure is (1) A housing having a terminal accommodating chamber, a terminal fitting inserted into the terminal accommodating chamber from the rear of the housing, and a terminal fitting arranged to face the terminal accommodating chamber to prevent the terminal fitting in the terminal accommodating chamber from coming off. Both front and rear end portions of the lance are connected to the housing, and a front end support portion for supporting the front end portion of the lance is positioned forward of the foremost end of the lance. According to the configuration of the present disclosure, since the lance is supported by the housing at both front and rear ends, the lance has high bending rigidity. Since the front end support portion exists in front of the lance, even if a foreign object approaches from the front of the housing, there is no possibility that the foreign object will interfere with the lance. Therefore, the rigidity of the lance can be improved and deformation can be prevented.
- the lance may be provided with a locking portion for engaging the terminal fitting in a region behind the front end of the lance, and the front end of the lance may be connected to the front end support portion.
- the unlocking jig inserted from the front pushes the portion of the lance closer to the front end than the retaining portion to displace the lance.
- the amount of displacement of the retaining portion is larger than the amount of displacement of the portion of the lance that is pushed by the jig.
- the retaining portion can be reliably removed from the terminal fitting.
- the front end portion of the lance may have a plate-like portion whose plate thickness direction is oriented in the elastic bending direction of the lance, and a pair of wall-like portions rising from both side edges of the plate-like portion. preferable.
- the front end of the lance has a high rigidity because it is U-shaped with the plate-like portion and the pair of wall-like portions. Therefore, the reliability of the locking function of the lance is excellent.
- the front end of the plate-shaped portion and the front end of the wall-shaped portion are connected to the front end support portion. According to this configuration, since the U-shaped plate portion and the pair of wall portions are connected to the front end support portion, the front end portion of the lance is less likely to displace relative to the front end support portion. Therefore, the reliability of the locking function of the lance is excellent.
- An outer wall surface of the housing is formed with an opening for exposing an outer surface of the lance opposite to the terminal accommodating chamber. It is preferable that the lance is displaceable into the opening by interference with the terminal fitting. According to this configuration, the outer wall portion that covers the bending allowable space of the lance is unnecessary, so the housing can be made smaller in the bending direction of the lance.
- the outer surface of the lance is located inside the outer wall surface of the housing when the lance is not elastically deformed. According to this configuration, foreign matter can be prevented from interfering with the lance.
- the distance between the outer wall surface of the housing and the outer surface of the lance in the direction of elastic deflection of the lance is the amount of elastic deflection of the lance during the process of inserting the terminal fitting into the terminal receiving chamber.
